I enjoyed Planetside.  It was great.  And this looks great too.

But I am with others in that I am extremely leery of the F2P model.  The problem with F2P is that it always effs up design.  It creates a conflict of interest between developing the best game possible and developing artificial imbalances or annoyances simply to then sell something in the cash shop to fix them.  I played Atlantica Online, whose cash shop is hardly egregious, but still I swore to never play a F2P mmo again.

Saying, "anything in the store that would confer a gameplay advantage can also be earned in-game" doesn't mean jack.  While there are very few ways to successfully implement such a balance (League of Legends is the only competitive F2P I can think of to do so), there are near infinite ways to screw it up.

We shall see.

@Maelkor: You heard of Battleground Europe (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/34) don't you?! Seems to be the right game for you ;)

F2P concerns of mine:

- Hacking/Aimbotting

- People with horrid ping

- Foreign languages flooding chat (huehuehue)

BUT.. and its a big but...

Its PLANETSIDE 2 !!! :D

I cant help but be excited about this release to the point were I dont even care what the payment model is.

One of the few MMO' releases coming up which I genuinly beleive wont fail after the first month.

I don't usually like F2P models but having seen how SOE handles EQ2's cash shop I'm quite hopeful for this one.

Cant wait for this... :)

They should just stick with a sub model, dont like all this f2p stuff :(

really worried about battlelog.... That feature is absolutely horrid.. I dont mind the stats and all that shit as a exta, but requiring that shit to login is point ridiculous.

I just hope there is an insentive to defend a captured point and not just capture points.  This is what killed PS1 for me.  How will they deal with spawn camping.  I could go on and on.

I have been playing the BF games since for ever, which is why i never played PS1. I am really looking forward to PS2. I just hope they dont use Origin or any other program like it. Being SOE im sure this wont be a prob. As for the people worried about aimbots and other cheaters cuz its a f2p, im sure it will happen but im also sure that they will have some kind of punk buster type program. BF has always been f2p and people cheat but punk buster does a pretty good job at keeping it to a minimum.

I played this game for a long time when it started......on a PC...I'm not interested in console gaming, never have, when it comes out for PC, i'll try it, until then....

lol, Origin. Sony is one of EA's competitors, they wouldn't have EA publish their game. SOE does use the Launchpad, though, which is usually skinned and themed like the game launching it so you'd never notice anything beyond a typical login screen and news blotter.

 

I hope this game is good, I really do. In fact, I'm positive it will be, but Sony has a knack for turning great MMOs into piles of dung because of bad decisions on development.

Regardless, Planetside 1 is still the only MMOFPS to really capture that "massive" in an FPS game and still be quite good. Hopefully PS2 will follow up the same way.

WOOT PS2! Looks awsome, like what I heard on the way they will being using the money mall so thats good news. Only thing left (to put my mind at ease) is dealing with hackers.

It's a shame that we no longer can have MMO's that use the traditional sub payment program.  If a game is truly worth it, then players will pay a sub.  Hopefully, they offer a regular sub that equates to a traditional type game e.g. $15 a month and you get full access.  I do not mind if they do that and have micro-transactions for additional clothing, etc.  I am looking forward to PS2 and I hope they do it the right way.

Plz SOE don't mess this one up !! PS1 was massive, quite awesome, had helluva blast innit, massive fights while other games did 32 at best.

I really got hopes on this game, even if FPS games quality is quite very high these days (specially BF3), Succeed where MAG didn't really.

Give us those ultra well organized fights again !!

They actually did mention a montly payment option, as of yet they are not sure what it will consist of but there will be one , so as you I am glad to hear this,. Thou I wonder about the hacking thing  and how they will deal with that. It killed APB so I could see it happening here. A wait and see atm.
