I consider The Old Republic to not be one - it's universe is too divided up with instances and load screens. I consider World of Warcraft to be one, just - it's pretty open and immersive. Seems to me the last few MMOs to come out haven't been all that open. What's the next one to come out? (Correct me if I'm using 'seamless open world' in the wrong way, I'm not entirely familiar with it's meaning) |

WOW is not an open world,if a MMO has instance dungeons it can never been a true open world. If i want to go from one island to the next i have to use a loading screen in WOW,it's far from open world. |

WoW is the closest you can have to an open world. |

So you're basically saying that there has never been an open world in an MMO then. |

If you want to discuss semantics open a new thread instead of derailing this one. PurpleCliff, you liked WoW's world, right? Keep an eye out for Vanguard when it goes F2P (EU I think it was). TERA has a seamless world with continents much like in WoW. It's in beta right now, you can give it a spin with free keys given out or the mini-purchase in the EU for €5. I can't think of any other titles off the top of my head. ![]() |

There is not a pure open world MMO, as there is not a pure sandbox MMO. But it's not too bad to consider WoW "seamless open world", since it has huge areas without loading screens. Of course it's not 100% seamless open world, because of the instances and the transition between continents. |

Originally posted by Metentso So you are just repeating what i have said about WOW from the start, instances and forced loading screens to travel from one island to another means that WOW will never been an open world. And yes Vanguard is a true open world MMO,i can go from one end of the world to the other without ever needing to load. It has no instances at all,no mountains that can't be crossed or flew over,it's totally open. |

WoW had a great open world when I played before they ruined it with battlegrounds and the ability to enter instances from anywhere. Before all this you had to travel to an instance which took up real world space and you had to enter a structure or cave that lead to the instance. So that is why WoW's instances felt acceptable to me and the fact the rest of the world was seamless. I dunno what it is like now but when I left it was going down the shitter. |

f2p games by Perfect World Entertainment are very much would you would call open worlds. Main one being Perfect World itself where you can go anywhere without any loading screens. Completely seamless open world. Just want GW2. |

Originally posted by tixylix Yeah i was there before Battlegrounds but WOW always had instances and loading screens between islands,no other way to get across the sea unless you load. That's why WOW was never a seameless open world MMO. |
