I'm confused, why would you need a new WoW from Blizzard when there are so many clones on the market to choose from? Or, am I sounding like the random people that claim that there are X-number of sandboxes on the market, and you're apparently NOT a sandbox player if you don't like what's out there now?
Does anyone see the irony in this other than me :/? The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: |

Where I suspect most of these new gen players coem from due to the success of WoW and it's massive advertisement campaign to the masses. |

Originally posted by palulalula Rojo is correct, the problem is NOT WoW, but the companies that think they can just do what Blizzard did by copying other games and put out a WoW-Clone in order to rake in the dough.
Attitudes need to change. I don't think many people can deny that nowadays with all the negativity towards SWTOR. The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: |

You already have a new World of Warcraft... several in fact. Try out any of the following for another mind-numbing, hand-holding, loot treadmill experience:
The last thing we need is another World of Warcraft clone with a gimmick to try and lure players in. Voice acting, female nudity, skillshots, random invasions, and angel wings don't change the core of the core design of the game, so take your pick and have fun.

so many blizzard haters. I would also like blizzard to make another mmo, as WoW has been the only one that has kept my interest for more than a year other than lineage 2. Having said that.. WoW still has many years under its belt and I wouldn't expect them to do another mmo for a while to come. |

Originally posted by Rusty715 How about ones that were based off of and meant for P&P game players like D&D and Rift (Not Rifts). With OPEN worlds where you are free to do as you please, explore huge areas and meet people along the way to adventure with, where COMMUNITY makes the game and grouping is actually done once in awhile instead of everyone ignoring everyone else because you can solo to cap, where gear isn't so important and ridiculously OP'ed, where you don't hit cap in a month or less so you can sit in a capital city spamming for groups for the high end content that no one will let you in if you don't have at least 8 pieces of Epic gear, where everything isn't instanced,...basically..everything they aren't now due to a combination of WoW's massive advertisement campaign, players from the console genre pulled in, other companies trying to copy it giving us an endless supply of hamster wheel fodder, and amazingly...people still asking for more of the same. It's like paying $50 for a game you've already beaten. Oh...and not so damn fast and easy.
They are mostly glorified console RPG's that happen to be multiplayer.....kind of. Unfortunately...other players in them just act as a bit more advanced AI since no one groups or talks to you unless they feel like berrating you as a noob or unless there is something in it for them. MMORPG's that had community..like UO and EQ..and several others that came before WoW. They could and will make a comeback at some point. Belay my last about saying no to it. I really wouldn't care if some of you want a WoW 2...more power to you. It's the God damn companies trying to make the same damn game over and over that pisses me off. Because that is ALL we get. Wish someone could have the passion, imagination and creativity to think ouside the WoW box.

Originally posted by angerbeaver "Best" is totally subjective. A lot of people, even people who play the game, dont consider it the "best". "Most popular" I'll give them, but popularity and quality are not the same thing. You also have to consider the Blizzard that created WoW is not the same Blizzard of today. I've always been relatively indefferent toward the company in the past, but the current Blizzard pales in comparison to the Blizzard of 10 years ago, and the current Blizzard has been upsetting a lot of their fanbase as of recent years. So yes, I think they need to step away from MMOs and work on something else. |

okay so obvious fandom aside, have you actually read anything from the Cataclysm post-mortem interview? They practically state they made all these problems worse in the game and then claim that it's not that bad. In reality, they didn't put any easter eggs in the 1-60 revamp, because they did the revamp their end game was severely lacking and poorly written, because they stayed with the antique model of more bloated gear grinding they forced their players to actually NEED a tool like LFG/LFD instead of changing the game, and they didn't even touch on the problems of not having anything dynamic happening in the open world. The entire game was built in Cataclysm to be about the end of the world, where all life was supposedly going to be snuffed out, where towns were to be obliterated, where all life outside of the chosen few were to be swept aside and yet nothing was done to implement this into the game. There was absolutely nothing in the game that made me at any time feel like my character was in danger. And let me make this clear, it wasn't done when it should have been done by funds as large as Lucas Arts funds. They make a ton of money each and every month and trust me despite their laying off of 600 people (which really wasn't necessary they just probably did it for fun at the top levels) they are still raking in big money every month worldwide. So saying they can't do these things properly in a company this size is ridiculous and a lie. And now someone's asking they do it all over again with a new game? hardly a good plan. |

I think Blizzard has enough of a fundamental understanding of presentation and interactivity beyond that of other MMO developers to justify investing in a sequel. No, I'm not a fan of it's combat system or generic environment, but there's no arguing that the boss battles and scripted events in WoW are leagues beyond that seen in any other MMO. This is what keeps people playing- the sense of glory in managing to win one of these intricate battles against a 20 foot tall monstrosity and gaining epic loot. An updated version with a much more modernized battle system and universal voice acting could potentially be a great experience. Of course, it could suck, but we already know Blizzard is working on another MMO so I'm willing to keep an open mind about it. |
