Ya, just to get more adequate frames you would need to turn off shadows. |

Originally posted by Stevo-rfc As to gaming on laptops, my son games on his all the time and it's not a specific gaming model so in that respect it's OK. As to if SWToR is a good starter MMO? Only you can really say; do you like SW, more so do you like the TOR part of it? SciFi? Etc... etc.... Take me; I like SciFi, I like space games, I like SW, but not the TOR part as I grew up with SW IV - VI and just never could get into TOR. So it really comes back to you. If you've never played MMO's really I'd recommend trying some of the F2p like DDO, AoC, LotRO, PotBS or ST. That way you can test out your rig (AoC and ST are both graphic demanding) and you'll get an idea of how MMO's flow without having to plunk down $$$$$. |

There's plenty of room to be "not a gaming laptop" and still have graphical performance vastly better than that. Such as one based on AMD integrated graphics. If gaming performance is your concern, then the time to ask about hardware is before you buy the laptop, so that you can still do something about it. Buying something random and then asking if it's any good usually gets an answer of "no", except from people who are trying to be nice and make you feel better about a bad purchase. I'm not such a person. The good news is that you at least got a modern laptop, as opposed to three year old hardware that simply hadn't sold out yet. The bad news is that what you got has the worst graphical performance that you can get in a modern laptop, with only the exceptions of Intel's low voltage chips (the same as what you got, except clocked lower) and some (but not all!) netbooks. So expect erratic gaming performance. Some games will run just fine, and merely stick you with terrible image quality. (Intel graphics on max settings don't necessarily give you better image quality than AMD or Nvidia graphics on low settings, for a variety of reasons.) Others will be more problematic, which could either be because the hardware can't handle the game, or because the hardware is fine and Intel's drivers are awful. If you you pick up a game that your laptop can't run the game as well as you'd like, your only way to improve performance is to replace the laptop entirely. |

The question now would be- Why would you want to do something like that? Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR |

You can run it, but it wont look particularly pretty. Laptops sucks for gaming with a few very expensive exceptions. A gaming laptop cost 2-3 times as much as a gaming desktop with the same performance. But on the plus side those HPs gets so warm that you can double it as a toaster as well. Sorry, but you probably should have asked about it here before buying it, HP makes the worst laptops around by far. Of course it is your money and you can play most none FPS games on low or with luck medium setting on it. |

Seriously? Could you run swtor on that computer? That doesn't seem likely to me. I have a stationary comp with about the same CPU but a very much nicer GFX (still quite sucky though). And yeah, I can *start* swtor. But I wouldn't say I can *play* it. I can solo grind quests, sure. But pvp or raiding is out of the question on that computer... |

Don't listen to these people that are bashing SWTOR. I am playing it and I am really enjoying it. I have been playing it since the start of beta testing and it hasn't grown old to me yet. I must be lucky because I rarely run across any bugs. People on this site are notorious for bad mouthing games just to be doing it. Anyway, welcome to SWTOR. |

My suggestion is, if you haven't bought the game yet then don't until you've tried that computer on some MMOs with trial versions or free to play.
My experiance with HP is they have the worst graphics cards ever especially laptops. I've had 3 HPs with one being a laptop but MMOs and some console type games were out of the question. The computers would just about explode with me trying to game on them.
Take it what you will but if you come back here saying "nope it doesn't work", I'll say I told ya so |

Originally posted by Stevo-rfc His point was instead of asking after the fact, ask before. It did come off dick'ish but it doesn't really make his point invalid. There are people on this site that will go into great detail in helping others make an informed purchase. They don't expect anything and are a great service to the average pc gamers that post on this site. Just look at the hardware section. |

I have both a Power PC and a $400 HP laptop thats about one year old. I'll admit I'm not playing SWTOR, however I had played several mmo's including Vanguard ( A hog on system resources ) I also played Rift and WoW since purchase of the laptop. Now with this I could say : - My Power PC can play all mmo's with graphics maxed out and looking great, but even with my good PC I could get some glitches and hiccups on max when playing Vanguard. Understand Vanguard is not coded very well. - My $400 laptop can play all mmo's including Vanguard glitch free as long as I have all settings and sliders turned way down. Graphics look like crap but they all play flawless. Better than my Power PC. Every game. - My friend is much better technology than me. He insist on having the best of everything, money is no object to him when it comes to gaming. He some how runs two good video cards piggy back, and keeps everything at max. Infact he insist on it. HOWEVER he always has freeze up and disconnects, but refuses to run on any settings other than max. The point of all this is : Maxing out your settings in any mmo or video game for that matter will play tricks on your computer, unless the coding of the game and your computer match. Or you have a good combination of parts.
Now I have a question that drives me crazy : I travel a lot with my job, infact I travel as much as I'm home. So I have a laptop for hotels. Sure it's a $400 HP laptop and was not expecting to play on the road. But I find that I could anyway with this cheap thing as long as my settings are low. My situation is unique with traveling....WHY WOULD ANYONE BUY A LAPTOP?....... I just cant understand it....Do you pack everything up and go to friends houses to play ?....Is it cool to have a Laptop ?.....Why ?....If I go to any BestBuy any place in the United States I see people only buying Laptops. The only thing I could think of, is it's cool !!! |

You cant realy run this game.
What you have I3 Processor, abit under the line, but its okey. 6 GB ram , is more than enough HD Intel grafics card, is a integrated grafics card for low use normal use, not intended for gaming.
What you need are a grafics card You would need a Geforce 8800 GT/Ultra wich is minimum I for once used a Nvidia Geforce GTX 285 wich is by now a card from 2009 , it works perfect but lag at some points.
Todays games dont need so much ram or CPU , but a shitload of GPU "Grafic procces unit" And since you told that its a HD Grafics card, i will assume its a laptop or a small Desktop and that its a intergrated Grafics card , wich meens it a part of the PC , and cannot be removed, so basicly you will need to buy a whole new computer. If im wrong , go and buy a Nvidia Card or Radeon card, equal to GTX285 , or Nvidia GTX 560TI wich is a very good card for just under 200 dollar, you will need a high standard grafics card to compensate for CPU loss.
I have an old PC my self My specc are 8 GB ram Quad I5 GTX560 TI
Also There are 3 generations of Quad cores Quad 9*** Quad I5 I7 And the new version of I5 and I7 the new version of I5 and I7 are basicly double the prestanda of the old i5 and i7 Also many people or 90% gets fould by I5 I7 and chose I7 since it has a higher number so that meens better. In this case its wrong I5 are for games and has a certain proccsing CPU suited for this I7 are for Heavy use of Programs like Photoshop/Industrial program/programming/heavy 3d application and so on.
Also I5 and i7 still have 4 cores , not like many think i5 has 5 and i7 has 7 , its wrong, its 4 cores.
I told this if you are going to buy a new PC System Specc |
