So the bad news is this will prolly cause delays in the amount of time it takes Blizzard to get new games, expansions, etc out the door. The good news, is you shouldnt even notice as it already takes them forever to finish any project as it is.

Some six years of constant growth and 1000's given jobs as a result, this was going to happen at some point, does not mean blizzard or WoW has failed, just means theres no one left to try WoW.
The other 90% are probably WoW customer service staff, that will still leave 1000's to support the millions of players. |

Originally posted by expresso while true a company can stop growing...but you seem to dismiss the fact that not all companies downsize. you can maintain too. the fact they arent growing or even maintaining at this point, clearly points to some serious problems. didnt a dev or some such employee associated with YEARS of work on Diablo III up and quit a few weeks ago ? none of this is good. |

#1. No Blizzcon. #2. Job Cuts.
How the hell can Blizzard, with 10,000,000 people paying $15.00 monthly fees, $box sales, $expansion sales, and RMT sales, get to the point where they need to cut workers?
Idiots. |

Originally posted by TyvolusNext it doesnt point to problems. companies restructure all the time. if i owned a company and was shelling out money to unnecessay employess id cut them too. there not making as much as they were in there hay day and they are adjusting accordingly. |

Originally posted by brody71 when you are hurting you try to increase the bottom lineby cutting staff. when you are doing well, companies increase revenue through increased sales (subs, new games, expansions, etc), and they in turn need to hire new staff for the increased customer/product support. Stop talking to me like I am a fool. Buy some stock and study the companies you own and learn a little about how corporations work. |

Originally posted by TyvolusNext Ding. Is anybody surprised? SW:TOR comes along and has 1.7M subscribers within a month of launch. Those subscribers had to come from somewhere, and despite Blizzard's supposed claims that their sub numbers weren't hurt, suddenly they are shedding 600 customer suport jobs? Customer support jobs are tied directly to the subscriber base. The less subscribers you have, the less support people you need. And I'm sure it's not just SW:TOR... Aion is going F2P, GW2 is coming out, social games are become bigger and bigger... |

Listen......
Why pay one person to push button A and pay another person to push button B.............when you can pay one person to push BOTH!! Its does not mean the company is all doom and gloom. They are just going to maximize their resources and have people multitask. How many time have you seen 5 guys standing around on the road and only ONE is filling in the pothole??!! If the job still gets done with 600 less people then it saves them a TON of money on salaries, benefits, payroll tax and the list goes on and on.
Relax it call business.

According to the wiki, they had 4600 employees in 2009. That's absolutely mind blowing. I'd love to see the numbers at other major development studios.
It just seems incredibly inflated. |

Why everyone is reading so much into this is baffling... No they aren't doing bad. No this isn't doomsday... They just have more than they need at this moment in time. Sure they lost revenue's but economics is dynamic it happens to any company out there.
Besides are you gonna tell me you believe that every worker there is a good worker or productive? Just look at your surroundings in every job you have mediocre to bad employees around you or you may even be one. And when the sky is the limit everyone stays around in this happy colourfull rainbow time... untill cuts need to be made.
ooh right, sorry it's harsh to not give a damn about people losing jobs... bet most of em end up having it better elsewhere. Or I'm too possitive and must think all of em end up in drama and missfortune and lose everything they have :p

wow firing 600 people? like seriously talk about fooking greed no way in the world that they are hurting for cash, countrys hurting and they are firing people. How much you want to bet those customer support ppl get replaced by indians ? Like someone else said i bet the sales from that new mount would have paid for those people salary and it was not hard for them to make the mount.
Stay classy blizzard stay classy i think corp greed at blizzard is starting to get too bad maybe i should cancel my sub :/
