We were recently treated to a press event for End of Nations. During the event, we found out an awful lot about Trion's MMORTS. See what we discovered and then leave us your thoughts in the comments.

Awesome write up and it sounds like the game is coming along nicely. A F2P cash shop model that seems fairly common, and it seems like it could be a blast. I am loving the hybrids of mixing MMO/arena style games whether MOBA or RTS I think it will be a blast to play. I will definitely try it out. |

I am feeling the same way. It is a game I am looking forward to playing. Trion is obviously not scared of Blizzard and going after their crown jewel with their own RTS is just sexy on so many levels it is not funny. |

They needed to make this a strictly rts-game,with some optional on-line elements ,imo. I wont get anywhere near this one. |

looking forward to it but want to know more about the mmo elements of the game. RTS games are ten a penny but a proper well done MMORTS will be a uniques thing. there is a massive gap in the marketplace for this. If someone is talking in general chat in a language you dont understand, chances are they're not talking to you. So chill out and stop bitching about it! |

I played this a LONG time ago (while RIFT was in Alpha). I'm curious to see how it's evolved since then! Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

I disagree. This Genre does not exist for a reason. Please tell us what slapping an MMO prefix onto an rts game will bring to the table? |

That's like people in the 90s saying the ipod doesn't exist for a reason, or facebook doesn't exist for a reason. I doubt you really know jack about what people want. People who want stuff don't even know what they want until it's in front of their faces. |

Instead of trying to insult me, why not explain the merits of an mmorts? or can you? |

It's quite simple really: the current limited multiplayer RTS format is just that... limited multiplayer. With an MMORTS you are opening up to bigger maps and larger player numbers with a degree of persistence not found in conventional RTS games. There is appeal there, in the same way there was appeal for the MMORPG, the MMOFPS etc, etc. To suggest that there is no appeal is pure ignorance. Whilst the genre certainly isn't going to be as profit mongering as the MMOFPS or MMORSPG genres, it's certainly one that has a wide appeal. And the guy who responded to you was right: People invariably do not know what they want until they are shown what they want. A classic business adage. |

The genre does not exist because Blizzard told you it does not. That company deserves what is coming. They not only stagnated the mmorpg genre, but also did it to the RTS genre.
EoN is free to begin with, so excuses not to atleast pic it up are just flat out being a hater. The game looks pretty solid and the concept is pretty damn sweet. |

There was another game kind of like this called Shattered Galaxy. I was really interested in that game so I'll try this out. :) Was going to try out EVE for the same reason (persistent war over territory), but this might be more accessible for me and a lot of others. |

Shattered Galaxy was a wonderful game and proved that MMORTS can work. I definitely will be giving this game a shot just to see another go at the genre. |

This is NOT in any way a MMO, there is no persistence! Just because the marketing arm of some company decides to label their product a MMO does not make it so! |

How persistent is this? Or is it just an online battlefield? How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW? |

Wow, Ozmodan. 26 vs 26 over days of fighting in which victory shifts the front lines on the global map. If a person drops, another member can join in to fill the void instantly to avoid being handicapped for the rest of the map. Hero/commander evolving with skills and traits....Oh....that's right. Because there is no auction house and /sit, this isn't an MMO, right?
Wow, some people and their cattle mentality. They play other MMOs where their actions does nothing to change the world, yet bash other ones that try to change the mold. |

Originally posted by Ozmodan Basically the general idea from comic cons and vids is you are given a map with a ton of different battles going on and you queue into them to help out. It is sort of the same concept as when Rift invasions would just pop up and everyone would go there.
The thing is supposed to be the sure number of things going on in the map. I guess if you want a MMORPG idea it is basically W V W where their is a objective and the battle is never ending and the front lines are always getting moved around the map. |
