The Airship (General)  » Help for New and Returning Players

OP  2/28/12 6:58:25 PM#1

I figured I would post this since theres so many returning and new players unsure about what to do at lvl 10 or are looking for parties in deserted areas.   If your looking to level fast and make lots of gil fast this is what you do.

Once you get to level 10,  go to gusgen mines,  its  just about the only place people level now, and they are alliance parties of 18 people almost   24/7 with  both American and Japanese players taking shifts.    Make sure to go to the book at the inside entrance of gusgen mines and grab Indivisualised  Training page #1 .  Then shout "Any Vacancies?" and shortly thereafter youll get invited to the alliance xp party there.    the xp on mobs will be low but its the bonus xp that'll level you up  super super fast, and it increases as you finish each repeating page.

Once you get to level 30, go to crawlers nest (in some servers its Garalige Citidal), same thing as gusgen, go and grab page with crawlers and bees, and shout  "Any Vacancies?",  level up to 55 in the alliance party there.

Once you get 55, gear up again and try to have your weapons skill around 190 atleast, then go to Bostanieux Oubliette, and do the same thing,  you can get invis from the book to go to camp.

You can now stay in Bostanietux oubliette all the way to 99 or you can go to abbysea at 75.   If you go to Abyssea at 75, youll get alot of crour and can usually make a million gil in about a full days of xp by taking your crour and getting the items from the guy in lathiene who trades gear for your crour, and selling that gear to the merchant.

You can find Abyssea parties 24/7 in port jeuno, where there will be so many players that half the people wont even show up on your screen. go there to find 75-99 abyessea gear up and xp parties

I hope this helps you so you can xp at 10 instead of wondering where everyone is.  The real game starts when your 99 and expect to spend months on end to gear up just one job.

Reading this post reminds me of why I will likely never play this game again.

(This isn't a knock at you OP, just my general feelings of the direction SE took this game. Thanks for the information, nonetheless.)

Sorry but the "real game" used to start at 1 in this once great game. The journey in FFXI was outstanding, now, if you play it the way you just described, has next to no journey.

I was in a LS no too long ago, that wanted to play the game together the way it used to be played, and all I can say is I wish it was still going and didn t get infested with the F the journey, get to end game crowd, which in turn, destroyed the ls.

If my wife and I could find a casual ls that wants to play this game like it used to be played I would still be playing. If that happens ever, let me know, until then I can look at threads like these and just get a sick feeling in my stomach.

I understand your reasoning for this but I already had the journey in this game once before and lost my character. If I had to do it the old way all over again I just wouldn't even bother. Was xp partying really your favorite part of ffxi? There is still a journey, you still have to do missions, quests, and all those crazy things you used to do in this game. The only thing that has been severely shortened is the time it takes to xp and the time it takes to farm gil. Those were my two least favorite things to do in this game so I really don't understand why that would bother you.

The greatest thing about the game now is I've been back for about 6 weeks and I have had 0 and I mean zero downtime. I don't sit and wait for anything. You just go and do now, there is no wait, you want to do that mission, do it, you want get lvls go ahead you can, you want to do Sky, Sea, Dynamis, and all those old things that used to take an entire LS and extreme organization forget that just go and do it. It isn't until you have completed all your missions, lvled to 99 multiple times, geared those multiple 99 jobs in abysea completely, that you get to a point where you have to sit around and wait. Which is what people do now with voidwatch. Even then you don't have to wait, you can go and work on your empyrean weapons which are insanely awesome and can be done easily in 3 months.

Also the "real game" never started at lvl 1. I first played this game at release and it was always oh the real game doesn't start til 10, oh the real game doesn't start til 20, 30, 40, 50, 75. Now that the lvl cap is 99 the real game is whatever you want it to be. But really wtf are you going to do that's so damn fun at lvl 1? In 6 weeks I went from killing worms in south gustaberg to killing Orthrus 12 times in one night. If you liked the game before but hated all that waiting and sitting around you will love this game now. I was kinda thinking the same way you did when I came back but not now I'm having too much fun.

PS I don't know what he's talking about saying to expect to spend months on end gearing one single job. I've lvl and almost fully geared my whm in 6 weeks. I only have a few trials left for my cure staff and a few more seals and +2 items to acquire. Granted whm is really easy to gear now. If you're not going for an empy weapon though you can gear your 99 job in 2-3 weeks no problem unless you're talking about some super elite situation pieces. Shoot you'll probably get a bunch of seals you dont need at the time too so when your second 99 comes around you already have all your +1 and some +2 before it's even lvled.

Dooh , and i wanted to try this game out .. This adve.. pushed me to reconsider my mind. Basically .. few steps .. lvl up and grind (with uuber tactics etc (i was reading your other conversation/discussion about farming)) .

You saved my time, thanks.

OP posts a helpful thread and is immediately derailed and belittled for doing so.

OT: Thanks for sharing OP, I'll be using your method when I return during the Welcome Back Campaign. Appreciate you taking the time to write this up and post it.

Yes, thx OP. Appreciate your post.

XP'd a couple of times in Bostaunieux Oubliette.

Gonna do the The_Sand_Charm map quest in Mhaura before I go back.

Not racing to cap. Not really interested in end game gear grind.

Been around since before books of valor and Aby. Still not a 99 job and don't care. Proudly gimp

I am taking my time and just enjoying the ride. Leveling my npc, might spend some time leveling cooking, lots of little legacy "wants" like Carby's Mitts, at least one craft to cap etc.

Trying to get a colored choco to pop in Sandy, probably need the NM eggs, dunno.

When I've casually old schooled my rdm to 75 and get all my smn avatars then maybe Aby and a mil gil a day

Slightly off topic I guess but having heard of the "Pacifists" in WoW who hit cap supposedly w/o killing anything I was wondering if there are a lot of "specialist" ls anymore or is everyone just racing to 99 and gear grinding?

In a laid back social ls, I mostly solo and they are cool with it but are always willing to help.

Good luck and have fun.

Wow they dumbed the game down that much? I spent 2 yrs to get to lvl 64 on my RDM. Not because it took that long to level but there was so much else to do than do xp parties.

I might have already mentioned this but the game now is in no way "Dumbed down" and anyone that thinks this is very mistaken or has not participated in a lot of the content. If anything it has been un-BSified. All the BS that was in the way before is no longer there. More specifically the crazy amount of time you needed to spend xping and farming. Try some higher tier Voidwatch NMs and then come back and tell me it's dumbed down, hell try some lower tiered Voidwatch and then tell me it's dumbed down. Not to mention neo nyzule isle and it's crazy difficulty (without hacks). Plus I don't think many have figured out a solid strat for Legion yet either (I haven't even tried this).

For you that felt there was so much more to do than xp parties before you will love it now.

Thats a big Twinkie.

Leucent... I was the leader of that shell.. and it bugs me to this day how great it would/could have been had I been a little more picky about who I let in. I've thought about restarting it a few times, with the original goal in mind but not sure I'd have time. I'd need some "co-founders" to be able to help me run it when I'm not in game. I'm a film maker and I do spend alot of time on that, but I would love to go back and play through the game the way it was originally designed to be played.

The game is only dumbed down if you choose to play that way. I was ok with pretending that abyssea was just another endgame area that I would get to when I was the right level.

I had so many arguments with guild mates who insisted on breaking the code of the shell by playing that way, and eventually I more or less got overthrown by some of them because I wasn't on enough to police what people were doing. If you or anyone else is interested in doing something like this again, I might be willing to give it another go.

I would do that, but would need some more for that. I can t play as much as I used to, but, I still could play a fair amount. I would think a core of 5-6 people to enforce this, is all you need. As well, with a core 5-6 people, you can do a ton on content anyways.

Let me know.

TL;DR: The best parts of the game, the community building aspects are incredibly dumbed down.

They tried, unsuccessfully, to go the same path as WoW.. charge to endgame and then sit in cities waiting for something interesting to happen. Unfortunately, they spent years buildig a playerbase that loved a community oriented game.. that avoided WoW..lol.

I want another XP party game like XI was. Some of my best MMO experiences are in Garlaige Citadel and ... damnit .. the imps outside Nashmau, can't think of the zone.

In a single day of play, I got 80 merits. No typo. 800k exp.

Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug.
12 Million People have been meter spammed in heroics.
Placing bets Blizzard's "Titan" will be a wow-clone.
