Hey, I just bought the game 5 minutes ago and was wondering what's the most requested class for PvE, including end-game, healer or tank? |

So far, everyone I know who is rolling a character that isn't straight up DPS is rolling healers. My anecdotal evidence would suggest there needs to be tanks. At the same time, every other server in the game could have a difference balance of classes and such. Join the League For Gamers. |

Hard to know: when playing my tank all I see are request for healer, when playing my healer request for tank.
What side you planning to go? Since all imperials are sorcerer I will guess they have or will have enough healers. |

I was thinking about going Republic, I`ve played Imperial on beta so I want to see the other side of the story :).
I guess I'll go with my first thought then and roll a tank.
Cheers! |

Although you left out those wonderful and rare times people can't find a DPS.
Once upon a time in a MMO(idr which one), I was caught in a nasty cycle of no matter which job I logged into, it somehow happened to be the unneeded job of the community at that specific time. Grand scale hivemind and murphy's law I suppose. We really need separate forums for every newly launched game. There can be the anti-<MMO> one and there can be the 'what general discussion should be' one. All the lamenting can happen together where each can find solace in like minded can't-move-on-ers leaving the rest of us to actually move forward and discuss meaningful and relevant topics. |

Healer is most needed. The tank role you can work around with for instance more crowd control or more healing... but it beyond most players to make do without a healer. It is possible if you got lots of CC or have tanks that now how to trade agro but when you got players who are looking for DPS (above poster) well, that just shows how bad some players are. Personally? I have pretty much stopped grouping with strangers, the game seems to attract bad players like flies. No point in trying to heal the suicidal. If you want to play based on what is needed I suggest you ask your mates on what is needed. Random people screaming for X are often not the best to group with, no matter what class you choose. |

Tanks and healers. I play nothing but tanks personally, have 3 so far. But there is still a shortage of us out there. Of course, as in every other game, there is NO shortage of DPS that THINK they can play tank. They usually make the run miserable for everyone and blame the healer for not being able to keep them up, which causes the shortage of healers.
If you want to be loved, play a good healer... If you want to be hated, play a DPS who thinks you can be a tank.... If you want to be forgotten, play a good tank...everyone will enjoy the easy run and compliment the healer for doing a great job keeping you up!
Me...I'm invisible. (DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.) |

As usual tanks and healers. I play a healer so I never worry about that. Even so I think tanks are rarer.
As far as dps goes, choose ranged over melée. The endgame content is very unfriendly to melée (we did an all melée Eternity Vault run, it was quite challenging in some places). Shadow's Hand Guild The Secret World - Dragons Planetside 2 - Terran Republic Tera - Dragonfall Server |

Finding a good tank seems the hardest on my server. Secondary healers are common enough that most teams have two so not so much of a problem there. "If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?" |

Snipers/Ranged DPS... But if limited to tanks and healers then tanks. Off our raid seems to be healing specced. |

In that regard, how popular/needed are Combat Medics (Republic Commandos)? -Xerek |

Originally posted by Xerek Everyone needs healers, if you're heal-specced you'll be in demand (regardless of which advanced class) :-) While Commando AoE heals are slightly subpar compared to Sage healers, that's being fixed in the upcoming update (according to devs). My understanding is that Commandos excel at single-target tank healing. Commandos in general are quite popular (both as healers and as dps) generally.

I think tanks are more in demand than healers, but there is still high demand for healers as well.

Originally posted by Xerek If you've ever played wow, then think of the combat medic/bodyguard spec'd merc like a holy pali, sorc/sage as a disc priest and smuggler/operative as a resto druid in regards to there healing specs. For Aoe healing the sorc/sages win hands down, and operatives have some nice hots. That said I've played a Holy Pali in wow, and I play a bodyguard spec'd merc in tor and there strengths and weakness are pretty much the same. Well besides the fact that when spec'd for dps you can be just as vaulable to the group as ranged dps if you feel like a change of pace. You have pretty much the best single target healing in the game. You are a tanks best friend. Healing multiple targets is much more of a challenge and I actually like it that way. Plus if you pvp at all you can be damn near impossible to kill 1v1. I know theres been times I've had a low dps guy litterally follow me around a map before tring to kill me, while I'm healing 2-3 other people. |
