The screenshot taken at prime time would be a good start.

just fyi, as you guys piddle around with the daily hours and players  to prove you points.....it is still #5 overall, same spot it was when the thread began.

I have a theory that in the current market mmo's have something in the neighborhood of a 35% to 45% retention rate upon the initial release up to about 3 or 4 months.

I also theorize that for those who do love the game and stay subbed, their playing time is much higher in the first month and tapers off there, i.e. the 'cough cough, oh drat I'm catching a cold just as my new mmo releases syndrome'.

Hey, what do you know, all this data supports my theory also........wow, who'd have thought this data might show a normal trend, and here you guys have spent 108 pages of posts proving that a game is circling the drain - a game that is in the same place holder as it was when the thread began.....

That image was taken from :http://www.swtor.com/server-status

Right now most of them are standard or light with one Heavy.

100% is WoW's time played on XFire, and yellow bar is SWTOR's time played on XFire. All my numbers are taken from Saturdays.

Well it has been about 40% for a month now. Guess all this doom and gloom is a bit too early.

Decline for WoW, or decline for XFire? Or perhaps just better weather and more people going outside instead of playing computers?

You are searching so hard, aren't you? Did you go through every single day, to see where you could find the biggest gap? You picked a saturday, that is so unusually high, that it beat a sunday, which rarely happens in any MMO, and then you compared it to the lowest, that seems to be a fluke, completely out of step with the trend of the last three (increasing) weeks.

It is called "cooking the statistics", when you go through them to find something that supports your point of view.

As you can see from my sundays before, you cannot conclude on WoW. The last three weeks WoW has been increasing. Why it is so low this saturday, I cannot say, but there is probably a reason.

Metentso: I think the word "averaged" is wrong description about what you're doing, you're using linear interpolation   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interpolation

I think you should at least choose two Sundays (22.01 and 12.02) to construct that interpolation. Now you make it seem like there's a huge drop because you compare Sunday (22.01) to Monday (06.02).

I just made a straight line from sunday to monday as if it lost the same amount every day. (150 players)  There is not a huge drop, on the contrary is a straight line. I could get that value substracting the players from 6/2 to the players in 22/1 and dividing that by the number of days between the two dates. It would give something around 150. It's not exactly 150, that why there is a small drop from 5/2 to 6/2.

The % is comparing the same week day of the previous week.

This is made by copying a week of the graph starting Sunday 12.02, then pasting that weeks graph over areas where you have no data:

The upper red line is approximation of peak population, the lower red line is approximation of average population each week. Your light-blue line starts as high as my peak population line but ends up lower than my average population line because you made straight population drop-line from Sunday to Monday and didn't take into account that there's allways more population on Sunday than on Monday.

Maybe we can start a discussion about a game you actually like and go from there?

Mententso, the games highest point on xfire was Jan2, when they had 11,800 players and 85k hours played.

Only if you use the day prior or after the decline you speak of disappears. Yet Swtor's does not.

They are, and rightly so, accusing you of cherry picking data points. Or do you not understand the term "outliers". You should if you don't, cause you seem fond of them.

The big day in SWtoR's history will be patch 1.2.  They must be aware how crucial it is, because they are taking their time with it.

I think there are more people in the 'I liked it but....' camp than are in the 'I hated it' camp, so a major patch like 1.2 looks to be could really rebuild a lot of faith in the game.  However if the execution of it sucks (like 1.1) then people will just put the game eprmaenently behind them.

SWtoR still has no really good competition from a stagnant genre, but that should change with TSW and GW2 on the horizon.  they gotta capitalize now.

I wont be going back personally, although I enjoyed the game...I just prefer fantasy and I dont mind older games (currently playing EQ2 until EQ1 goes f2p and opens up a new server...not that ill be doing the f2p but EQ with a healthy midlevel population is a blast)

I don't think many people here have any knowledge of statistics at all, despite liking to quote them.

I compared one Saturday to another Saturday.  You guys bitched before because I compared different days of the week.  So I compared the exact same weekday a month later.  You just don't like what it shows.

I don't like any MMOs atm., especially not WoW.

Btw, how is this even relevant to SWTOR?

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising?

To establish that SWToR 's curve is not in sync with other games. If all games show similar trends it invalidates the argument that SWToR losing subs is an anomoly -  (you'd have to look at actual daily trends of multiple mmos in addition to looking at trends for those mmos in their 60 days post launch - essentially  you have at least 3 variables to compare before you should arrive at the 'OMG the sky is falling' conclusion. And most professionals who work with statistics would tell you that is simply a starting point before drawing any hypothesis.

What SWToR is going through is not an anomoly. You can see downward trends in other mmo's taken during the same calender time, plus you can see that SWToR's curve very closely matches that of other mmo's in their 60 days after release.

It is relevant to SWToR because this seems to be a thread focused on trees, while some of us are trying to point out the forest you aren't accounting for.
