I don't think your going out to turn into a sex offender. I just think there is a difference between aesthetics and OTT trash. |

Originally posted by rojo6934 Yet again, why would you care about quests if fighting alone generates all the fun and satisfaction you need? The problem with the other WOW-MMOs is that their combat is so dull (to eliminate failure). The questing system must then be used to motivate you to fight. Of course generic quests would be a big turnoff and my wild guess is that because of this players have become too fixated on the quest system. --- |

The game, to me, is very promising. While I wouldn't disagree that it's kinda linear in the beginning, the thought of that never really crossed my mind while leveling through the starting zone. Maybe it was the anticipation for what was to come or the fun and dynamic combat... It could be many things that I found to be pretty unique. All I can say right now is that I enjoy it quite a bit.
I can say without hesitation that this game is better than SWTOR and on par with Rift. There's things that I love in Rift that TERA doesn't have and vice-versa. But SWTOR is definitely worse IMO. |

And there are lot of these people around. So if thats not over hyped idk what is because no game can ever live up to that. Originally posted by rojo6934 Well it seem like just good quest and avg game mechanic is good enough for most people why shouldn't the other way around work as well? That said Blue Hole already revamp lvl 1-40 quest in the upcoming patch for ktera. So hey at least they fixing their mistake. No game is built perfect from the start. |

First Impressions. 1. I had to spend about an hour customizing the User Interface and even then couldn't get all the text big enough to actually read I had to get really close to my monitor. 2. As playing a sorcerer I really didn't see the difference much between MMO's although I would say that Tera looks pretty nice character/graphics wise than Aion. 3. I havent really had enough time yet as I just got in beta today to try out other classes and the dodge system pretty much but still have more to find out about the game before making a big decision. 4. All MMO's like this have trolls at the begining of the game. |

Originally posted by Renoaku 1. Ya thats one thing they really need to fix, before they even fix the quest themselve is the fcking text size. Dragon Nest has this down, large text thats easy to read so eaiser for people to notice if yoru story is great. 2. Well the fact you have to aim is pretty new ^_^ and once you PvP you really see the difference XD 3. Thats what Betas are for ^_^ i'll do my best to post way to get Beta keys on this site so people can get in all the other CBT as well =D 4. This one just seem pretty heavy, probablly coz its coming out between 2 game with way too much fanboys XD |

Originally posted by Arakazi Looking at it long term, it makes little difference whether you have avatars that are fugly (LOTRO) or unrealistically beautiful (Tera, GW2) or both (Aion). It also doesn't matter if the toons are sexualised as a selling point. We already have a precedence of a game with high controversy regarding this issue (AoC) that the subscription retention was hardly affected by the art choices. Bottom line, we're talking about games that are directed towards mature individuals with different aesthetic tastes. I find the eastern design (Tera, GW2, Blade & Soul etc) more appealing than the western design (EQ2, LOTRO, AoC, Fallen Earth etc.). That doesn't mean that I won't play a game that is based on western art design, obviously. However, my stay will be more pleasant in a game that appeals to me more aesthetically. |

Because almost all of the mmo players, especially the ones that hangs here and on mmosite are a bunch people stuck with the diapers in there ass, and can do nothing more then to complain about everything. That is what happened when you let people that don't have chest hair think that what they say actually matters. |

Its funny how people cant understand the difference between trolling and responding to outlandish fanboyism.
There is very little actual trolling going on overall. |

The problem people have with Tera is other than the combat, its just a generic run of the mill wow-like mmorpg, the only diffrence is the combat system. Don't even try to say its not either cuz if you do, your blind. Also En Masse kinda sucks my acct got suspended for no apparent reason as well, with no contact from enmasse or anyone as to why. Yet I was able to play the game just fine before a crash to desktop. The Amazon Video Games team thanks you for your order of Tera. Now it's time to get you your bonus item.
^ is what my pre-order code said, so there was no reason why my beta acct got suspended. I submitted a ticket and still waiting for a reply, they can';t be that busy during a beta test. Tera isin't bad though the combat system makes enough fo a diffrence, its rare to see a mmo where player movement can be vital to battles. on my lancer I can block (lancer is a absorption tanl) or I can just side step out of the way of a incoming blow. Unlike most mmo's like wow where once the animation is started, the attack is auto-hit even if you move out of range mid swing. But yeah, other than the combat there is really nothing special about tera, but still I kinda like it and am gonna keep my pre-order. Lets face it, the wow-like generic mmorpg is here to stay probally will wow goes under, so everyone take some advice from me, Just suck it up and deal with it, because its not going to change, for a while anyway. Only issue I really have with tera is well its a korean mmo, and in korean mmo's grouping is usually a waste of time, and if you check the offical forums, many players have said that grouping even with the exp bonus is not worth it, they make way more xp/hour soloing. Which shouldn't be the case but sadly it is. Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either: A. Proven right (if something bad happens) or B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens) Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime! |

Really enjoying the beta so far, combat is very refreshing, going to push pretty hard today and get off the island and see what the game really has to offer.

This weekend I have/had the chance to test TERA and luckily I havent pre-ordered it. It is a very bad game. Questing is boring, items/equipment are typical asian-style (every few levels upgrade but with the same texture, relatively rare the texture type changes). The combat is at the beginning interesting and promising (just like it felt with the combat system of AoC) but it gets old pretty fast. Graphics arent bad but this doesnt make a bad game any better (FFXIV for example). My prediction: It will go F2P in 2-3 month (first Frogster want to earn some extra cash with the 1-2 month subscription fees) and prolly it will have enough players willing to pay via cash shop to survive for a longer time. My last bastion is GW2, if not I am done with MMORPGs and stick to my console games (playing since 1998 MMORPGs) |

Of course it will go F2P, all MMOs will go F2P sooner rather than later. There won't be a single MMO that will offer a subscription only option by 2014, mark my words. Is that supposed to be an diminishing insult to the game? (Guess what, your last hope GW2 isn't a subscription game either. By your logic, they weren't even confident enough to try going for subscriptions first and opted for a single player model. But we both know this is not the case, right?) |

Been playing this weekend - It is a very generic MMO, but the combat is refreshing and fun - but really only after about level 6. Doesn't take too long to get there though. Definitely will not be a purchase for me, but I can see a lot of people having fun with it (especially PvP) and if the end-game political and guild control/war stuff meets the quality of everything else I've seen it should do well. Graphics are very good, obviously if you like the Eastern style. Ellin are still a little too creepy for my tastes, but at least in NA version they wear shorts under their skirts. Game runs great, load times are pretty much non existant - Unreal 3 engine performs up to its storied name for sure. Crafting seems like a huge money sink - barely scratched the surface of it but almost 1,000 gold to build a single item + the actual mats you have to harvest first in the open world (which is no problem as harvesting nodes are everywhere) Some interesting little things like the crazy boxes you can loot and put resources into, and they can either double or triple your original amount or eat it all and laugh at you lol World is very closed off, very linear, lots of tunnels and valleys and paths. Wide open places with invisable lines - at least what I have seen so far. *sigh* Trying to level high enough to do first dungeon and find some BAMs, see how all that is. MMO History: |

Originally posted by Xasapis Supscription base model works if its a good MMO. But the thing is MMO's are not made like they use to be made anymore. No depth no challenge, no world, pretty much no anything that made an MMO an MMO. As long as these MMO continue to be made with a mere 90 days of content they will continue to adopt the f2p model in a short period of time. I disagree. There will be sub only in 2014. I am still holding out hope for the MMO genre to get back to what made the MMO genre to begin with. These online RPG's that masquerade as MMORPG's should abolish the subscription model. Disclaimer: talking in general about MMO's, I dont know enough about TERA to know where it falls. Waiting for:ArcheAge |
