Did I read this correctly? I bloody hope so. After years of banging on about it and friends looking at me like I had two heads. 'But...what will people grind pvp for if not gear', they would say. How about it's not about grinding and it's about fun? Hell, if people want some little fancy titles to grind saying what a good little pvp'er they've been it's no skin off my nose. In any sane person's books, pvp is about fun and fun is playing a game where skill determines ability not who has the most free time to amass the latest (temporary) best purple set that guarantees one of him equals 6 normal players with daytime jobs. I can actually remember some individual Arathi Basin game from years ago where the stars/planets/gerbils aligned for 15 minutes and both sides were approximately balanced (despite all the game's best intentions) and it would come down to fighting the hardest toe to toe till one side won by the skin of their teeth. Now that is fun.

PvP should have 2 sides to it. Side 1, Fun, make the experiance enjoyable. have the battle be something that is something people want to do. Side 2, Make it matter, Territorial PvP is amazing like this. if there is a chance that the loss will lose something for your faction the pressure gets put on and victory tastes soo much sweeter. Because i can. |

Some of the so called hardcore pvpers are nothing but glorified gankers. Its like with real life hunters, you have the truly dedicated ones that give their prey a chance and you have the idiots whod probably try to hunt ducks with bazookas if the law allowed them. A true pvper should only count on his own skill for winning. |

Heh, thats one of the reasons i miss HotK, you couldnt kill another player in open world until they joined a dynasty. you get the ability to join one at lvl 40. Because i can. |

Originally posted by bumuscheekus Well for starters you are correct, it is for fun, the whole goal fo this game was for fun rather then for gear, mounts, pets or anything else for that matter. Second i have to say that they will be giving actual rewards for pvp achievements, it's awesome their achievement system and like the pve ones the pvp achievs will have daily weekly and monthly ones. |

Originally posted by LadyNoh Do you plan to give GW2 a try Ladynoh? I ask this not to flame you in any way, but simply because i've seen you post that you aren't that interested. Seems, by your definition of what makes good PvP, that if Anet is able to deliver what they've talked about...it'd be right up your alley. Sorroe, Human Mesmer |

If there is imbalance even in the slightest in PVP past experience has taught me the whines will be deafening. Frost Mages FTW. ![]() |

PvP should be fun, challenging and rewarding, Rewarding on an emotional level is great, but along with ingame rewards, even better, |

Originally posted by Arakazi In case of GW2 it does reward You in game. With titles and different looks for Your gear. No stats however. That's the important part, and part of reason why WoW Arena never really became e-Sport. You can't have competetive PvP if You have treadmil of gear progression to go through before You can even attempt to be competetive (another issue was fact that only 4 classes are really used in 3v3). GW2 PvP on the other hand has 2 modes in it's structured variation. One is the Hot-Join. This one is for fun/practice/fooling around or just simply checking out different character builds/combinations. The other one is Tournament system, which is competetive, with pre made teams, brackets system and fancy vanity rewards at the end. By eliminating the gar advantage/disadvantage They make it much easier to balance (because You don't have to factor in how skill A will perform when player has highest possible gear), and make it more enjoyable for everyone. You can go into PvP from start and be boosted to lvl 80, and still be on par with everyone else if You know how to play. |
