Anyone want to predict how many boxes they will sell in their first year  I say 3 million.  GW1 has sold over 5 million accounts.

When this game comes out it's going to drag a lot of gamers from other MMO's where you pay monthly fees like SWTOR.

These greedy companies don't understand yet that a F2P model is the way too go.  Most new MMO's are testing the waters with Paying monthly fees but eventually they take the F2P route.....

Im the only one that cringes when he sees "GW2" and "F2P" in the same sentence?

GW2 is B2P actually. F2P just makes for Free-to-lose gameplay and causes balancing issues. If a company doesn't let people who pay get an advantage, it is likely lower amounts of people will bother to buy anything and the game development speed and quality goes down.

EDIT: I actually forgot to answer the real question. In the first year, I'd assume that GW2 gets at least 5 million box sales. Its B2P model makes it a good choice for casual and hardcore players.

yeah GW2 isnt F2P its B2P. B2P features alot of expasions to increase content instead of patches, though there are certian companies that do both for the sake of increased profit.

Every game I've played at least, but all of the F2Ps I've tried are asian grinders. I guess that could be why.

While I give a congratulations (and already did this morning on twitter) I will also add my text to the "Buy to Play ≠ Free to Play" posts.

Now I'm off to pla... err test Risen 2 now that the download has finished. ^_^

Subscription free is a good clear term I feel.

Great news for a great dev team... and maybe some headaches.

Since when is a b2p game with probably heav dlc content that gonna rip us even more off a f2p game? PLEASE

I signed up once, but I wonder how many people used multiple emails/indentities to sign up.  Probably enough to push that number under 1 million.

GW2 is not F2P (Free to play), it is B2P (Buy to Play), meaning you have to buy the box. And I hope it does well too :)

its better explained as. Buy the Box, then buy the expanison, then buy the expanison then buy the expansion.

This is what I call a misguided person. They blindly state things that are fact to them, without anything to back them up. They think the game is horrible, while having not seen anything about it.

To get more serious, are you for real? Guild Wars 1 had Campaigns and a Expansion. Yeah, they cost money, but guess what? They gave HUGE amounts of content. Probably more content than a full year subbed to a P2P game. And the whole time you're playing the game, you're not paying a cent. If you can't/won't spend some money on a game your playing and enjoying, I think its time to stop being a gamer.

I seriously can't tell if this game is just getting trolled hard or if there really are this many uneducated people about the game spouting off nonsense for whatever reason.

i honestly have no problem with the game but when people say things like "you just have to buy the game and then its free" i feel they need a correction. sure everything is one time payments but B2P isnt only having to pay once, its having to buy it and the expansions. the system works, dont get me wrong and they need to be able to release alot of content with those or else people wouldnt buy them. each expansion needs to be a full game worth of content. if its not then your buying DLC, and usualy those expansions are the same price as the original game. Still its a working buisness model and i have nothing against it.

F2P, B2P, WTF, LOL.  Have you guys booted up GW1 lately?  I can't wait to see the rage quit from the GW2 fans when they finally figure out how Arenanet is going to milk this monster of a game. 

They will have you "buy" the tail.  Ha!  but seriously.  You think you're going to get a game of this scope for just the price of the box?  Somebody will be paying the money.  Look at GW1,  right out of the box you can hit up the store and go buy every skill, unlock every equipment upgrade and whatever else.  I took a look at the store last night and cringed.  I thought "What's the point of even trying this game out again?" 

It was pretty creepy.  I expect GW2 to be a killer product but I know there's going to be a catch at some point.  Wether it's that $9.99 "perk" that makes things so much easier, or endless amounts of "downloadable content" that will get ya for a few bucks here and there.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

Edit:  And don't get me wrong, I could give two shits about paying good money for a product.  I have bought, payed for, tried out hundreds of games over the years.  I'll drop $60 on a game and play it for 2 hours and never look at it again, the money I spent on gaming doesn't bother me.  But don't get all spoiled brat cranky when a lot of you fan boi's figure out that in a lot of ways there's going to be a subcription attached to this product.
