I have to agree that the copying is really no big deal especially since we won't even get started on all the thing's Rift copied.... Plus as others have said MMO companies need to start taking others ideas and blending them all together it makes the genre so much better.... |

Originally posted by VikingGamer I see your point, but have to disagree. Every PQ in WAR had its own feel and sometimes unique mobs, voice overs, and custom scripting, so at the very least each felt unique. In Rift, once I've closed 10 fire rifts, I honestly don't care how many branches, how many stages, or what bosses it has, because they all look the same. The only thing I really felt was a clear improvement was the dynamic opening and closing that they did, rather than being cycled on a timer like WAR PQs. But that's exactly what my initial point was - there's nothing wrong with taking a concept and refining it - on paper it appears that Tera is fixing a few of the design flaws in Rift's implementation. |

Sine TERA's more of an Aion than a RIFT competitor it was most likely to avoid using the name "Rifts" that Aion uses. |

Originally posted by tavtav That is true, they were all very unique, at least in the second and third stages. I am not so sure Rift's design had flaws as much as they simply didn't make enough variety in the rifts. I think Rift was overall an improvement to the mechanic, they just failed in otherways. The flaw that I saw was in how they were implemented, not the mechanics of any single rift. Basically, you're sick of them before you get out of the first couple zones. As an end-game only mechanic to spice up max-level play, I think it's a great idea, and it looks like that's what Tera is doing. |

The soundbytes attatched to every NPC are however horrible. The youtube you just linked.. while I can't understand a word of it (audibly), it sounds like the actors, elspecially the sorceress' actress, put convincing emotion into that role. Hopefully english translations get that much effort. Spec'ing properly is a gateway drug. |

So, so true...
For me, I love Bioware's approach to questing. I get annoyed of having to read endless text. I'd read a book instead. I find it more engaging when I can hear (and read) what the npc is saying to me ( with the option of skipping if i've done the quest already) . |

Originally posted by Shadowdawnz By the same token, I'd watch a movie if I wanted to see people talking. Some people don't want to discuss stuff with NPCs. They just want to "get to the juicy part". There are also many great games and RPGs outside of MMOs that have no voice overs and are greater than most other games (see Zelda). Btw Tera does have voice overs on all NPCs as far as I noticed, they just keep it simple. |
