That's too bad they are all the same. I would like to see a game that allows for the strategy of making a huge tank to absorb damage, or a tiny rogue that can move unseen.

Try Bloodline Champions, Tanks are huge and block projectiles when smaller characters hide behind them.

I think that's an AOE attack.

 

Yea it is but to elaborate collision is just like Tera's what ever your attacks hit they damage so Tera and GW2 are the same in that regards. The only difference in Tera is a lot of skills you use stop your control in movement where as GW2 you can control your movements except for some that make sense. Other than that action was and feel should be the same unless you want to use auto attack. Tera is a bit easier due to the attacks being tied to the mouse and free aim. It might be latency that's effecting Teras combat but that's another story it's still fun as is Gw2. Umm but yea hope this help clears any debates I payed both any who know more feel free to correct me.

If character size is a problem beyond hit boxes into the realm of perception, then why don' we all just make midgets.

Listen, I seen plenty of how ANET do PvP balancing and if size really becomes a big problem they will find a way to balance it up.

Letting smaller characters have a little less HP than large characters is an easy fix to mention one thing, and it is logical as well. I do have a hard time explaining why an Asura Guardian can take just as much punishment as a norn guardian.

But there are other possibilities as well, if an unacceptable percentage of the best PvPers are all really small it will be balanced, things like that is why you have an beta.

Yes, you can do both. You can also hit enemies you're not targetting while targetting someone else.

No its not only AOE. If you dont select an enemy you can swing weapons freely. U'll hit whats in range. That doesnt apply to skills though i think. Its just your basic attack.

Let me elaborate. First off, I enjoy PvP. I also like to play Male characters and the Norn's theme fits me exactly. Now in structured pvp, there will always be the min and maxers....aka those who will play with with every advantage the game will offer up.

I'm sure they're making all the hitboxes the same size, so you can click above an asura and still target it.  This was the case with Aion to, if i remember.

Furthermore, since all professions are some how available to all races (scratches head at thought of slyvari engineer) there is no apparent racial advantage in profession choice.

Sylvary fit well as engineers, read their race overview and open your mind a little more.

Thus if a small character such as the Asura or or slightly bigger abit thinner Slyvari have the same profession choices, no statistical advantage, and can be on equal ground with a massive Norn or Charr... it seems like if you want to have the best advantage in pvp you need to roll a tiny character.

I have noticed in many games which allow size differences (Aion), the tiny characters make good "party poopers" when it comes to pvp.

I hope Arena Net is planning or willing to look at this potential issue.

I agree, even if it doesn't play as huge a role as it may seem.  One fix I could think of, while as ugly as it is, make players focus more on clicking bigger red names than bodys, you get the same outcome but it makes everyone's clickspot the same.  They could also implement a name cutoff so that big names don't lose out then, and various other things that hide names around walls and such to balance it.  w/e they're capable of.

Finally, I know not everyone here cares about PvP, so if this is you, as a sign of respect please keep what I assume will be anti-pvp player comments elsewhere.

 

Thoughts? Reactions? Any info that I am not aware of?

I've noticed in TERA that though the hit box is important for ranged attacks, it is much less so for melee attacks. Your cursor can be no where near the hit box of your target, as long as the target is with in the swing radius of the attack. GW2 doesn't require active targeting, so I really don't see the issue here. Ranged attacks with out an active target seem to have a sort of auto aim functionality built into them, with an expanded hit box and projectile animations homing in on the determined target. (I'm guessing that hit determination on untargeted attacks are based on a ranged cone projecting out from the PC based on the direction they are facing, rather than where the cursor is on the screen). You aren't going to have to worry about your attack missing an Asura by flying over their heads! If the hitbox is with on the cone of attack, it's going to have the ability to hit. Visual size has no impact on that.

As far as animations, if you look at some of the Asura melee combat videos, they do a lot of lunging when swinging a weapon about so that you won't constantly be seeing hits when the weapon itself appears to miss by several feet. :)
