With only 5 years of MMO playing, I wouldn't really consider myself a vet, but I am looking forward to GW2. That said, I have many other games like WoW, Spiral Knights, and RTS games that I enjoy, so I'm not just being bored complaining about other games in my free-time. Certain features of GW2 really interest me, dynamic events and WvWvW especially. However, I'm not going to go as far and consider it my 'perfect' MMO or say that it will be something that would revolutionize the genre. Features like removal of the holy trinity and no large-scale raiding are two features that I fear will turn out poorly. Either way, I'll buy it just to try something different. |

Originally posted by BLueBEar GW2 does indeed have structured PVP on small instance maps, which can be anywhere in the spectrum between 5v5 competitive monthly and yearly tournaments between serious teams, to the other side which is custom hot joinable casual pvp akin to creating a game lobby like you'd find in a console FPS.
But GW2 also has their take on World PVP, which takes place in a separate region of four zones, each able to hold at least 500 people. It's 3 faction PVP against other servers. You get matched up against new servers of similar strength at the end of a two week period. Not only does this completely eliminate intra server faction imbalances (so it's not always faction A vs B&C), it also makes for more balanced matches overall (winning servers play winners, losers play losers), and fresher experiences (you won't always be the big server or the little server). There will also be capturable objectives, dynamic events between them (for example, ore shipments from a mine to the keep that can be defended or disrupted), seige equipment which can shoot fireballs with map-wide range, and destructable environments.

After the flood of information yesterday I wonder if any skeptics (or any fans) have changed their minds about GW2. Me personally... an already over-hyped internal meter has kicked into hyperdrive. This is going beyond already lofty expectations. |

I still very much enjoy eq2 and will for a long time. That said my wife and I try almost every game out there, well almost all. I have been looking forward to GW2 since it was announced, and with all the new info out, I ll be playing EQ2, and won t even bother with any new MMOs being released, like TSW, or Tera. Mormally I would buy them just to see if it might capture me, but no point now, GW2 is where it s at. I was a huge DAOC nut, the WvW alone made this decision for me, but the more I read about what else GW2 has to offer, I just can t wait. |

Not at all. Sorry but nothing is very impressive in this game. When i see only that strange walk of characters i lose will to play, and plus on that instant teleporting, bahhh. Even when you make screens from game big you see how simple that graphic is. One little cosmetic upgrade over first gw. Good for few months but nothing huge like it was wow. |

Huh ? Nope not excited at all . . .
Seriously i could nto get enough of all the videos and information that came out about GW2, i recently re-subbed to RIFT (SWTOR was dismal and really disappointed me) but i did not spend one single minute playing yesterday, all i did was read and watch videos of what the reporters got to do all weekend long. Heck i am still reading and watching. Lolipops ! |

Im looking forward to GW2. IV been playing MMOS for over a decade now. Reason Im looking forward to it? Buy to play, no more paying for bug fixes and ballance issues. Innovation and focus on comunity instead of premade content. WvsWvsW looks alot like old DOAC mechanics... All in all ArenaNet is trying to do things a little diffrently. And why not atleast try it when its Buy to play? Im glad we can see atleast some innovation in this day of age. And not all the crap we have seen from the big studios the past 8 years. |

I'm a disgruntled old MMO Vet. Everquest stole my soul, and has not returned it since. That being said, I'll buy GW2. I'm not hyped, not even really excited for it. I'll play it when I can, but I realize it isn't the same kind of game that EQ was, and thus isn't what I'm looking for. The business model they are using is genius though, if it had a sub I wouldn't go near it. |

The game will have some issues, and there are some things I think they should have done completely differently, but in spite of that, yeah, does look like it'll be a good game. Possibly even a great game. Probably not the best MMO ever, but its looking very likely that it'll be one of the best.
It's not about buying into hype for me, so much as just judging all the info and gameplay footage I've seen. Wasn't all that long ago that I'd just watch trailers, and get excited by what the devs seemed to be going for. From WAR to APB.. I don't buy into any of that, anymore. Fortunately, we have a lot more to go on, though, and given everything I've seen, I'll be shocked if this game is any less than an 8/10 or so (for me) When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world. |

Originally posted by MMOExposed well, as a MMO players for the past 7 years, i have never been hyped about anything like GW2
the most thing i am hypeda bout is the WvWvW and dynamic events, i can even already imagine me spending 70% of my time doing WvWvW, it is what i think it will be my main time in GW2 that i will spent
yes, it will be my main MMO, i never play 2 MMO at a time, that is just me So What Now? |

Yes. Almost all of the newer MMOs I've played bored me after a short time because they were so similar to WoW but didn't have that OOMPH in production quality and general smoothness of play that I felt WoW had, but GW2 looks to rectify that and all of the other little problems that made WoW less than stellar. I haven't been this excited about an MMO, or even a video game, in over a decade. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

1. For people who play MMOS for one month or two (game hoppers), B2P is not much different than box price + P2P. No box price + P2P (no cash shop?) would be better for them. 2. Todays Shooters add roles for a reason: many people can concentrate on their given roles easier than being a Jack-of-all-trades. Even if there is no Trinity, often someone has to do the role of a supporter and this is best told before a battle. 3. Dynamic Events: I like Public Quests, it is the evolution in MMOs. Although in my opinion WAR did them too often. So the DEs have to be really really entertaining. 4. Server Transfers: In my opinion Arenanet should demand RL-money for this. I welcome if it is free in more PvE related games like Rift, but if you want to talk about "Server-Pride"... |

As an MMO vet from the UO/EQ era I don't do hype. Hype is just foolish - I cannot think of any game that really lived up to its pre-launch hype. I prefer to try something out with relatively low expectations and then be pleasantly surprised. Admittedly, the last game which pleasantly surprised me was Lotro... |

I've been MMOG gaming since EQ/AO days. I consider myself a vet certainly and a 'tired MMOG vet' to be sure. I too feel the industry hasn't grown beyond a snails pace ever since WoW, which was innovative for its time as well. I am beyond tired of most MMOGs these days and while I do get hyped about some, I limit it as much as I can. Even as big a Star Wars fan as I am I tried to limit my hype of SWTOR and I'm glad I did. I got bored within two weeks (I was literally growing bored before the early access ended!) Funny thing is I'm fairly casual in my play style. I rarely get to the end game in any MMOG I don't spend at least six months playing. I got bored of SWTOR so fast because it is just more of the same, only it's also extremely canned. I'm not posting this to harp on SWTOR, I'm using it as an example. But yes, I am so very bored of the WoW clone, the 'themepark' as it is defined today. The old and tired ‘stand around, hit your key combination, 1, 2, 3.. repeat’ is just getting so very old. The questing mechanic, the holy trinity, I’ve been bored with both since 2006. Hell, my Steam ‘avatar’ is a WoW style yellow quest marker with the ‘no’ symbol (a red circle with a slash through it). As to GW2, yes I am very excited and perhaps to hyped. But that hype is grounded thanks to simply how GW2 presents itself. First of all, it has features that I’ve been looking for in MMOGs for years now. No holy trinity, no questing (yay). It has a story that is highly personal and unlike SWTOR, isn’t linear and is can change dramatically based on the choices you make. On top of that it has real time, highly dynamic combat that doesn’t rely on a trinity, and holds ‘skill’ as paramount. There are some fantastic examples now, thanks to the press beta, that show the stark difference between a newbie or unskilled player and someone who is highly skilled. While both are able to complete the content fairly competently, especially in PvP the difference is night and day. Story was the one thing that hyped me in SWTOR but once I discovered how linear and... sterile it is, I was exceptionally disappointed. Choices that could have lead to widely varying paths, had no affect on the story at all. A great example is the Smugglers choice on whether to kill a woman who betrays you early in their story. If you kill her, nothing happens to the story. If you chose not to, the only change to the story is you get mail later from her thanking you for not killing her. It had no actual affect on the story what so ever, where it could have been a major twist. I just felt it was so, half assed. So many of the stories are copy pasted from each other, even major light/dark decisions had no impact beyond the immediate result of that decision. But enough about SWTOR, it’s just the most recent example of a failed (in my personal experience), copy of World of Warcraft. So yes, I can say I am most hyped about GW2. I am a fairly long time GW player and I think they did a lot of things right in that game and based partly upon that record I have high expectations for GW2. But that’s not the only reason my hype is higher than it has been for any MMOG since SWG. Anet has a great record of sticking to their word, of showing content and systems of their games only once they are done and polished. Giving fans a long time to play the game at conventions, and letting them essentially do whatever they want with their 40 minutes, whether that be PvP, PvE, checking out character design and skills, exploring the cities, you name it. With the limit only being the limits of the demo they brought to the various conventions with them. The opposite of this would be many other MMOG companies. A great example is pre-release Warhammer Online. We saw rare glimpses of that game that consisted predominantly of tours of empty landscape and cities. When we were given a taste of design or content it consisted of near weekly videos of a marketing guy spouting buzzwords like ‘magical’ while he gushed over power point demonstrations of ‘how gameplay x will work’. Promises and buzzwords of amazing and magical features we were going to love the hell out of. When they were at a convention, they only showed snippets of the game, and often it wasn’t even playable. When it was, they only let people play in tightly controlled 5 minute demonstrations of one or two tutorial areas. This is why with GW2 I am exceptionally confident that GW2 is what Anet has shown it to be. That the features promised have been features shown. When they revealed World v World this last week they didn’t give us a power point demo of how it would work, they let press (and others) play it, they showed the maps, the details of how the gameplay works, etc. They don’t make wild promises without any evidence of their existence. For this reason I am absolutely sure that when we all get our hands on the game, it will be exactly what it was promised to be. That is why this old vet is extremely excited and hyped more than I’ve been in 8 years for Guild Wars 2.
TL;DR - Anet shows their game and it's features and lets fans play the game instead of just spouting buzzwords and showing power point demos of 'how this feature will work'. They don't spout tuns of crap about content and systems that they only have on the drawing board. Instead they demonstrate only what they actual have in the game, and often played by fans (or the press this weekend, which includes a great many fans lol). Therefor GW2 is worthy of my hype. |

I honestly think this game is what we have been waiting for... if its not I guess i'll... DAMMIT I DONT KNOW! lol Tera is crap, SWTOR is crap, eff WoW and its Pandas on the horizon... GW1 is only fun because I want GW2. If GW2 isnt what I expect I guess it will keep me busy for a lil while and then diablo 3 will keep me busy for a lil while and eventually ill find something else. Being an optimist I just really want to think GW2 is the holy grail we have been searching for though =D
