The Developers nowadays seem to think any game they make is really worth the $60 price tag. which to me is complete garbage when your rehashing the same game from last year with afew extra features in it. i can give you a example of this i bought a new game the day after release brought it home started fooling around and i see all the character creation stuff is the exact same items from almost every game before it with just a tougher learning curve, smarter AI and all and normally thats no big deal however when your losing to opponents you should easily beat this is what really gets me and i took it back told the store i want my refund for this terrible game and all and the guy at the counter says its in our policy we can't take returns only trade-in's and said that its worth $20 bucks on trade-in and i looked at him and said that this is insane because i bought it days ago for $63 tax and all and all i get is $20 bucks ? he said yep and i asked ok what about putting the money down on a reserve which agreed to and paid off most of my reserve with most of the money from that refund. what they could do is what i've seen other's have done in the past is release a game for $40 bucks and sometimes those games are way better then what your paying the extra $20 bucks for. and on top of this $60 pricetag figure in your tax and then give or take some time you find out they have these DLC's that should've been in the game in the first place and you gotta pay for those aswell. and to top this off now the developer's have to go and start making online passes for games and you can only get certain features for games if they are brand new and not used. this is a new thing i heard about i don't tend to play my console games online much. this just shows me the little guy that doesn't get alot of money and wants a game will get screwed in the end because buying a used game you won't be able to play online even though that person will want too and have to shell out extra cash for a feature that should be in the game and not some DLC or restriction unless buying new.
as far as i can tell its just a money sink with most games because the story of some games is never ending even though the developers say it will stop here at this sequel and yet its a big hit so they make another and another and in most cases the games go downhill from what i've seen and i'm sure players can name off quite afew game series that have done this. as most people know that buy games those games you've been dying to play waiting to come out can turn into huge disappointment and overhyping doesn't help i could name afew games that were overhyped and when finally reviewed by players were a huge disappointment which can tell ya some developer's don't listen to what players want or anything. this also goes for MMO games i've noticed the last online game i bought and played it took me sometime to hit level cap and found the end game to be disappointing and while playing for awhile it started to feel like a clone of a familiar game that we all know and love/hate depending on POV. this little factor set in and made things hard to even continue playing and after about my third month total i cancelled my sub and now playing my favorite game to death. i could give you people a hint on the games i'm refering to the mmo has lightsabers and the other game has magical shouts ;-)

So don't spend your money on them

I'd like to admit, first off, that I only read the first sentence of the OP's post (not because I'm lazy, but because I'm semi-busy atm). However I agree with it 110%.

Btw ive bought games sinds DLC was first time introduced and never bout 1 DLC and never will even for my favorite Skyrim unless its a real expansion. Only game so far had DLC that i dowloaded was for The Witcher 2 but thats was FREE!!! Two Worlds i remember had a full expansion we got also for FREE!!! These days its indeed GRAB GRAB GRAB $$$:( But your still free to buy or not thats up to you give those money grabbing bastards your money or not hehe I quit Guildwars 2 for now im fed up with empty world:(... played:AC-Darktide,AC2-Darktide,L2 and Darkfall.Solo Fav games:Morrowind,DayZ(PLAYING NOW), Skyrim, Bioshock, Age of Empires 2, Soldiers of fortune 2 and many more... |

give me the perfect game which keeps me going for a looong time and i'll pay 200 $ for it. instead what you mostly get nowadays is a spectacular, flashy but actually crappy unfinished game with poor content and little gaming ideas, which needs a dozen patches and plagues you with all kinds of drm measures and 'must have' expansions all because you were stupid enough to buy it. just save yourself the cash and buy these things after six months or something in that range of time ... then the 'patching' finally caught up (or at least you can read the warning signs from others if it just won't work ever at all) and you get what you payed for: a not that great game but at least at the right price :p |

Check out Steam, gog.com, and similar sites - you'll end up saving money by switching to digital distribution. New releases will still be $60 but sales happen often. Skyrim recently went 33% off.

The other issue is the concept of what i have heard termed as "implied value". When people see a higher pricetag they usually assume that its higher quality. If you price something lower than the competition some people assume its cheaply made or of lesser quality. This is why many games release at the same price regardless of actual value |

Consider youself lucky in a way, here in Australia we pay at least 20% more than the US sale price. For example the upcoming Mass Effect 3 is priced at $108 for the console version (thats about $115 USD). PC version is 20 bucks cheaper. What ticks me off is how long it takes for games to come down in price after it's been out awhile. For example Call of Duty MW:3 has been out for awhile now and the console version still goes for $98 with the PC version going for $78. I would have expected a bigger price drop by now. The sad thing is i can only see prices getting higher over here.

At least on the PC, prices are still decent and stable, usually running $49 USD for a brand new, standard game. It's been that ways since I started PC gaming in the mid 90s. My friends with their consoles though, it's another story. Usually $10 USD more. "I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Originally posted by Warmaker Not completely true. Games are starting to come out at 59.99 for PC games. I tstarted with Starcraft 2 and I think SWTOR also cost 59.99 and I know that's the price for Diablo 3. It's going to become the new standard all across the board. What I don't understand is why digital copies cost the same amount. But this isn't my rant. LOL |

What really get me annoyed is what you got in a whole game before they know split upto to DLC and pre order items or extra items for a little fee, instead of just putting it all in the game and let us buy it! It really is milking beyond milking now. I don't like this new era where gaming is as common as movies goers. It really has resulted in a load of rubbish where the ideas of the past are used and expanded upon, often for the worst with very little new ideas and creativity. |

1) Research games properly to evade dissapointment. 2) Games fall in price relatively quickly, so don't buy on release.
They charge what they do because they can. As long as consumers are idiots they will continue to do so. If you're really that dissapointed with the game you buy then you didn't check it out properly. |

Well no one says you have to buy the game. Some games with limited hours of gameplay I will buy the used copy because at places like GameStop, you have 7 days to return it. Usually I'll beat the games by then and return it, or if the game isn't fun I'll return that too. Most games aren't worth $60, I don't even know if I'll pay $30 on it. Inb4 flame war. But I personally think my CoD: MW3 was worth my $60. Not because the game is special in anyway. It is an exact copy of MW2. Why do you say I think its worth $60? Because I play with my friends almost everyday. I'm pretty sure I have over 100 hours on that game and I'm still playing. If my friends didn't play, neither would I. I honestly don't see how most campaign games can be worth $60. I enjoyed Batman Arkham City, but that was no where near $60. Well either way the companies are still going to charge the standard $60 and people are still going to buy it. |

Skyrim is pretty much nothing like Marrowind, and its barely anything like Oblivion. SWTOR is not a WoW clone, I think people should look up the term "clone" and figure out that they are using it wrong. Last time I checked it ment something that was IDENTICAL. And yet I don't see any game like that at all... SWTOR's development might not be worth the 300 million they spent, but is the game worth 60 bucks to most consumers? Well heck yeah, its got at least a months worth of main storyline you can play through, which when I last picked up Soul Calibur 5 and played it for an hour or two and got bored, I rememberd I payed the same price for both games... Marvel vs Capcom 3 ultimate edition? things like THAT you should be protesting OP. Games that re release with a tiny amount of new content but at the same exact sticker price.

I bought Cities in Motion digitally for $20. Played it for about a week and then went to the forums, downloaded the player-made maps and played that for a few more weeks.
very good for $20.

Originally posted by Jakard In general, PC games are still following the $49 USD tradition. Yeah, some have gone more, trying to do a "Console" on us. But when you look at it, they're generally from companies that are bought out and part of some of the biggest "Evil Empire" publishers. The titles you mentioned? Here, and some more. Starcraft 2 - Activision Blizzard SWTOR - BioWare, division of EA DIablo 3 - Activision Blizzard Battlefield 3 - DICE / EA MLB 2K12 - 2K Sports, $29 USD PC version, $59 USD for console versions MW3 - Activision Skyrim - An anomaly being $59 USD and not with a huge publisher like EA / Activision Witcher 2 - CD Projekt / Atari, $39 USD now, but I bought it at $49 when it was released Civ V - Firaxis, $49 USD on release "I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company.
