OP  2/19/12 7:33:08 AM#1

just deleted my WoW account after 4 years of play.... blizzard has just steered this classic into a dumpster of easymode shit; roll your face across the keyboard and loot the boss. my alt's "casual guild" is already 3/8 heroic DS. WoW has zero sense of achievement, zero sense of community, no exploration, a vague fart of lore, repetitve factory mechanics for everything including pvp, reputation, honor pts, valor pts, crafting... overall, its now basically a lobby game headed straight into a black-toiletbowl-hole filled with pandas. good riddance. queue up the cancellations blizz - your game has nothing "massive" about it anymore

ahhh that felt so good to mash that cancel button. liberating really

no, you cant have my stuff but funny you should ask! i offered all my shit to a level 48 dude in orgimmar - 42k in gold, maybe 50k more in stuff - and he actually declined saying he was waiting for guildwars 2 and would be canceling at the end of next month.

sorry i just had to share with someone other than my immensely happy fiancee

Personally, I liked how time friendly they made Warcraft.  It was good to know that If I only had one hour to kill, I could knock out 3 BG's (maybe 4).  I liked going into BG's as a fresh, green/blue geared 85, and gearing up within a week or two (depending on my schedule).   It's a game. I log in to unwind and have a little fun, not work a second job.

Well it last you 4 years, that's better than most games, just move on, dont try to over analyze it like you did.

No its not the game it was. Vanilla was the best MMO experience ive had but nowdays I actually get more pleasure from STO than I would if I went back to WOW. I left the game with my main at 85 and geared to start heroic dungeons. I thought, didnt I just do this at level 80? :)  Also, for me, Cata sqeezed all the joy out of rolling yet another alt. I always enjoyed Dun Morogh and Ashenvale but after Cata there was no fun left for me.  I played WOW off and on for six years and have no regrets but no desire to return either.

Good luck in your future endeavors.  I'm personally waiting for Diablo 3.  The Inferno mode is damn sure to give me a good challenge.

yeah hate that TOR does not have LFG.

I rejoined WOW specially because of LFR. Finally, i do not have to work raids like work (scheduling 3 hours slots .. and stock up on consumerables else i will be called out) ... and can play the raid part like a game.

I havent played TOR and never will, but imo LFG has killed MMO's. I played WOW during the good days before LFG was the norm and had no issues what so ever getting a group. People just want something quick and they want it now. When I left WOW around ICC it was pethetic. Join a group via LFG which still took a bit of time, race threw instance as fast as possible, no one talks, 15 min later your on to the next one. I dunno about you, but thats not very fun. Now go to the opposite side where instances take 1-2 hours depending on the mmo. You look for a good group (or group up with people you already know cause you know it is a mmo) or join a guild, run and instance that takes 1-2 hours, meet new people, talk to online friends, at the end of the instance you feel like you accomplished something.

Yes mmo's are going towards the console lobby game get in fast and get out fast mentality. Sad realy cause those people already have games to play while true mmo'ers have to our classics (which are damn awesome). Would be awesome for a AAA company to grow some balls and create a game with now a days graphics and UI with DAOC/EQ game play.

WoW is for people who want to quickly get their fix. I myself to be honest can't be bothered to spend 2 hours LFG and then spend another 2 hours doing a dungeon. I used to do that in vanilla but now I don't have as much time. Even when I do have the time, I don't want to spend it this way. If WoW is not for you just find another MMO which is more suitable for you.

My point is there are people who like what games like WoW and maybe GW2 will give you. You can play without wasting too much time on the boring stuff. Of course, there are others who like to spend a lot more hours in a game and they want to get the whole "living breeding world" feeling and that's fine too.

Also there are people like me who play MMOs as I see them as action RPGs. I love Diablo 2 but lets be honest. There aren't many cooperative/action RPGs which you can play. So I love playing an action RPG where I can grind for levels, gear etc with my friends.

If you spent 2 hours before looking for a group you were doing something very wrong. Either you made enemies on your server because you dropped groups lots or ninja'ed something. I never ever waiting 2 hours just to get a group and even if the wait was 10-15 min there is plenty of things to do in all MMO's in that time. Crafting, socializing, gathering, cleaning up storage, etc. By the sounds of your last comment it seems as if your a console player who only plays with a small group of friends. Does not seem like mmo's are your thing. Spending 2 hours in and instance is not a long time. Raids used to go on for hours in a night over many days.

We are talking about how LFG has poisoned the current MMO's and your post just ilustrates how it happened. Console gamers wanting a quick fix.

IMO each Genre in computers games have realisticly stayed the same. Civ has not changed much other then it being a tad more easier and amazing graphics, FPS have just evolved graphicly and AI wise, and Adventure games have maily changed graphicly. MMO genre is really the only one that has changed drasticly due to greed.

This isn't entirely true.  If you take the time to find a good guild (read: one that is active) and make friends than it doesn't have to be as you described it.

Whatever you do, do NOT speak ill of Asheron's Call 2...

2/21/12 5:45:12 PM#17

I don't understand all the animosity towards people that for one reason or another do not have endless hours to spend playing a game.

Not everyone is at home, or in college or unemployed. People have lives outside of gaming, as crazy as that may sound. To sit here and judge them and cry about how they ruined Game X just shows what a jackass you are.

And from some of the previous posts in this thread, there are quite a bit of jackasses here...

That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

To each their own. I hope you find another game that you enjoy. I started near the end of beta, and I've played more on than off since then. I have eight 85's, and have gone back because I was really disappointed in SWTOR (and couldn't find anything else I had any real interest in playing).  I'm looking forward to TERA, but thats not until April.  I'm also looking forward to FireFall, but lord only knows when they plan to open that to the general public.

STO?? As I said, to each their own, but STO has one of the WORST control systems (ship wise) that its ever been my misfortune to come across.  I played that for three or four hours and then uninstalled it.  Its just not my type of game it seems.

I remember WoW's first year, in painful detail... ^^ Its a MUCH smoother game now, and I keep going back because its familiar, and entertaining. I'm not there for the social aspects. I have eight 85's, and if there were more classes I had any interest in, I'd be much happier.

I remember when WoW was an experience, before the flying mounts and LFG, people grouped, interacted with one another and made their own activities in game. (Guild conga lines and such.) I'm not saying anything new other than that I loved that game when it wasn't attempting to cannabalize itself for the sake of convenience.
