(Hopefully this isn't against the rules.) Tongue-in-cheek thread about GW2 amidst the current gaming (and beyond!) MMO landscape. Even if GW 2 is bad, it will still be better than...
I'll start: Even if GW2 is bad, it will still be better than left-over Chinese food (mhmm!). "Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference." I need to take this advice more. |

My wife. The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, Linear Story, Cut-Scenes...

@Warjinn and DeaconX: There is no downside to GW2 IMO. For a box fee, you are able to level, explore a new world, interact with others, try different classes... I don't know about you, but personally, I have never hated an MMO right out of the gate. It's usually as I approach the dreaded "end-game" the cracks in game begin to appear. So in my mind, GW2 is already a success.
If ANet can use its strengths to cater to its playerbase, then they have a winner. And by how innovative they have been so far, I'll happily wager that they will give some thought to their playerbase*.
*unlike a company like Trion -- who were/are and will be set on the WoW-typer players. They could have made a killing by filling the void in the MMO market and occupying the EQ niche, but they have chosen not to. Even if GW2 is bad, it will still be better than...everything. So far. I can't speak for games still futher on the horizon yet, but there's not a game out ~now~ that's more interesting in its greatest moment than GW2 is in its most mundane. How sad is that?
