The setting is Earth. The detail would be every city, towns, states, countries, basically every piece of land. Social status chooses who is leader of each country. Wars can be fought over third world territories. The game itself could be as big as 100gb. Pretty much like second life except there is every conceivable possibility murder, sports, and all the good bits. Im thinking too big. No developer in the world could ever hope to accomplish something this big. I bet if they tried, some towns and cities would be empty of NPCs. The rural areas would have cookie cutter farms. This is of course a sandbox theme but NPCs should be there to make a place feel alive if no actual players are in the same zone. Probably take 20+ years to make and by then they might come up with an idea that makes them postpone the game another 10. It would be final fantasy 14 all over again. :) -I am here to perform logic |

Not a true sandbox. I try to take an Axe and hack people and get sent to jail. Where is the freedom developer! |

"Wars can be fought over third world countries" Wow... you disgust me. This is the very essence of why Americans (re: Westerners) are rich, spoiled, oblivious-to-reality adult-children with no sense of what is happening in the rest of the world. Third world countries are real nations with real populations of real individual humans, often exploited.
Not only did I think the idea itself was kindof dumb (Why would anyone WANT to develop that, let alone try?) and it isn't impossible but would just require needless tedious world building, but once I read "wars can be fought over third world countries" I wanted to vomit in disgust. My god... |

Who says we aren't playing that MMO already. I mean theres so much we don't know about our universe. We could be the equilvant of a Sims game on a higher beings computer. |

Why exactly do you think a sandbox MMO would not have a jail system?
Why does the OP think that a sandbox MMO would not have npc's?
The difference between a "sandbox" MMO and a non sandbox... is the exact same difference between a "sandbox" Sim in SecondLife and a non sandbox Sim.
In a Sandbox the user can create content... in a non sandbox the user can only experience someone elses content. There is no definition beyond that... nothing that says there is no penalty system or no npc's.
I mean ... you see those "boxes" which are more or less a frame.. and they are filled with sand? They are sometimes in backyards or playgrounds... some don't have the frame and are just called a sandpile. Kids go out there with their Tonka toys etc and build things that don't really exist with their imaginations?
That's kind of the Origin of the concept... I'm just not sure where these odd restrictions entered the concept.

the best sandbox by this definition would then be udk (unreal Development Kit)... all you need to do is find away to make it work in multiplayer :) |

Did we not attack iraq and libya who are oil rich countries and ignore zimbabwe who has no oil? Do we not support courrpt governments in Nigeria and equiteral guinea? Anyhow this is not a politcal forum. |

Originally posted by Theonenoni This but make it a zombie apocalypse survival MMORPG, where you have to gather resources in dangerous places in order for your community to survive and thrive. All while fighting off other players who tries to raid your resources.
This would ofc be a sandbox/themepark hybrid where the leader of the communities get to control certain aspects of the community RTSMMO style
So much you could do with this |
