So it's confirmed. StarVault is gaining subs not losing them. This is official from StarVault and can not be denied. Sales of licenses has increased 50% from a year ago. "players that typically have been logged on Mortal Online per day - has increased significantly by about 83 percent and is an indication that the players enjoy the game" 83% increase in players compared to forth quarter of 2011. This is HUGE! All this talk about seeing more players in game is not hype it's confirmed by Starvault. http://www.aktietorget.se/NewsItem.aspx?ID=61022 {mod edit}

What I will instead do is wait until the financial reports come out which have time and time again shown yours and Henriks statements to be outright lies. I mean seriously.... |

im fiarly confident there will be a significant increase in subs, especially with Awakening launching at the end of the quater. i dont really know anyone who wont be logging in after awakening to retry MO who has played it before. there are 2 types of mmo, imitators and innovaters. |

Originally posted by username509 These percentages without numbers to back them up are meaningless.
If they sold 10 licenses last year and they sold 5 this year...there's your 50%. Not so impressive right?
If you have 10 players logged on and an additional 8 log on over the last two months, there's your 80%. Again not so impressive.
Given SV's track record, the numbers are probably pretty pathetic, if true at all. That's why they went percentages. Some will fall for it. Most of us that have been around SV for awhile know what they are doing. Einherjar_LC says: WTB the true successor to UO or Asheron's Call pst! |

If Star Vault releases facts, that they are loosing subs you guys are jumping up and down and crying "HAHAHA THEY ARE LOOSING SUBS". If Star Vault releases facts, that they are gaining subs you guys say "Nah, they probably lie". I think you don't have a problem with this game, but with the company behind it. Therefore most of you guys will never stop bashing it illogicaly, even if it becomes the best game in the world. |

If they got that many players they certainly don't need the rest of us buying it then :)

One thing I am impressed by is the fact that they stil have the game up with so few subs. But your percentages are kinda pointless without actual numbers. And numbers for the entire last year for that matter. Another question is how many of those players that are new and how many that just been a way a while. |

Are they still charging AAA prices for the game? I have a feeling they could increase their sales a ton if they dropped the price to something that reflected the quality of the product. |

Awakening will be a huge problem for SV though... lots of people will want to try it, but because of the new content area (Tindrem) lots of people will be concentrated in a few quadrants of the game. Awakening will likely be a server stability nightmare because of this. What SV should have done for Awakening is release much greater land mass, and give reasons for people to be spread out all over. That would help stability and keep people in game.

People don't quit because the game is too expensive and they would still quit if it would be cheaper. And billy, they also don't quit because the server crashes under the tons of new players they are seeing. They because because they may see so few players.
So all your points are pretty much invalid |

Originally posted by Wollkneul Way to close to AAA price for what it is. The client should be at most 10 euros with maybe 5 sub fee. Hell, you can get Rift, which actually is an AAA game with more features/content for like $5 now. Themepark and Sandbox I know but really? I'm actually not sure I'd even call MO a real sandbox. SV really needs to hire some people with business backgrounds. |

I'm going to have to side with the skeptics. By publishing percentages rather than actual numbers makes this appear to be more of a marketing spin/trick than any actual improvement.

I tried the game recently and found the game buzzing with players in one of the towns(Furgum). I did enjoy the days spent trying it out, if i had more time currently I would have continued on. I did read of an upcoming expansion that sounds interesting and adds a lot of new content, so i will hopefully have time in the future to delve deeper, as it definitely seems as though this game is progressing and there are many of us sandboxers that are currently in "limbo"(no pun intended) while waiting for DF 2.0 to appear.

Originally posted by Loke666 It did say "sales of licenses has increased by about 50%" so that would be new players buying the game. OK, there could be old players buying new accounts as well, but the larger number I guess comes from old players. At least from watching the numbers of people in the game now. |

Originally posted by Kyleran Yeah, especially since there's been a very aggressive "viral marketing" campaign going on lately, it seems plausible that this report is part of some PR drive that SV is doing right now. Besides, given their track record, everything they "confirm" (without presenting solid evidence) should be taken with a fistful of salt. Until they release actual sub numbers, or the next quarterly shows a significant increase in profit and player retention, I'll stay skeptical. |
