Some of you really need to reign it in and wait until we see more of the game.

This run away hype train for every new game that releases is rediculous.

We really need to get this under some kind of control as these inflated reviews are what keeps killing games more than anything else.

Some of you paint these pictures of this perfect game you are seeing thru rose colored glasses, another gamer comes in expecting the best game ever and doesnt find it and then all hell breaks loose.

All I am asking is you get real.

We have played maybe 1/10th of the game world.  We have not even tested the main focus of the game the seiges or politics.

I do understand there have been a lot of disappointing games lately and MANY of us are desperate for the next great game, but do not let yourself create it in your own mind.

Be honest, be accurate, do not post while emotional, and think about your words.

Again I say Tera is an ok game so far, but we still have a lot to look at before we can post some of the things some of you are posting.

To be honest we played the most boring part of the game lol...and i've seen mixed reviews, both inflated and underrated.

It's always wise to remain skeptical about a new game, well at least new to NA/EU.

And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"

Like I said in another thread seen this game before, so far it looks like 1000 other Korea F2P's.  That may be what is driving the hype though many America's have never played the umpteeen million Korean F2P's so are new to the look and feel.

We have played what looks like the worst part of the game and I'm enjoying it immensely. Can't wait to get my hands on the other stuff.

Next dungeon is a haunted mansion, tons of blood on the walls and a little bit more challenging bosses.

Also, our first taste of gold grade gear (weapons and armor) at 27.

I never liked that dungeon, not the design or bosses but that's just me. My personal favourite in terms of looks is hanging gardens, boss difficulty I can't say because I know not of any of the endgame dungeons but from what i've heard:

Hardmode = really difficult.

There needs to be a little bit of crazy when dreaming up a new concept.

The only "runaway hype" for this game involves the Elin wars and both sides' loyal ranks of DIY-psychologists (and their troll infiltrators). If anything, the hype train's been much lighter than it was for Rift or SWTOR.

The majority of positive comments seem to involve the enjoyability of the combat system, once you get up to around lvl20 or so. No one's been arguing that the questing system isn't quite vanilla, or that facetanking isn't a viable early strategy. There's also a fair bit of appreciation for the visuals, and some anticipation for things like the PvP system and the politcal system. Nothing unreasonable, I don't think.

Name a game where the first few levels of the game were any way indicative of the mid and end game?

Some of you really do need to take the OP's advice.

[Mod Edit] haha, nah we should all learn from Age of Conan, first 20 levels were good then it was like oh.

I agree so far what I've read has been a lot of mixed reviews not to much hype and not too much dis-hype.  Like all games the people who love it REALLY love it and the people who hate it REALLY hate it.

I feel if you go into any MMO at this point looking for a 5+ years of enjoyment and commitment of quality work from the company you need to re-evaluate that.  I won't put numbers on it but a lot of us have gone through the gauntlet of Ultima Online, Ever Quest, Asherons Call, Dark Ages of Camelot, and World of Warcraft.  Sadly with the Themepark styled game play all these games and the ones coming out offer there isn't a lot that can be changed that we haven't seen before.  There is only so many ways you can implement a quest, pvp, and end game content.

The reality is themepark style game play has burned out a majority of us gamers especially the ones who went through all the games I mentioned above.  We are now at a point where we need to demand the industry change as we are all changing and getting older.  I remember when I first started my MMO gaming I was 12 years old..  I am now 26 so for 14 years I have essentially played the same game over and over with different skins and the story being told (sometimes) differently.

Tera is doing pretty much the same as these other games with a different spin on MMO combat (for better or worse) and trying to add in a political system which may or may not succeed.  The game as any other currently on the market will be played by many but the longevity of it I don't think will be there not for the masses anyway and I believe this holds true for most games.  There are multiple reasons for this, gamers are smarter now a days, there are more tools at our disposable to clear content (youtube for boss fights, written strategies, etc).  All these things make it so content is cleared faster than ever which in turn hurts the game because let's face it not one company even the AAA titles that have tons of money backing them can produce content (that is as close to bug free as we can expect) fast enough to satisfy our needs.

I guess without rambling on more what I think we need is a sandbox game made by a AAA company that allows us to make some of the content ourselves.  A world where if we want to build a castle or boat or an iglo, that has options of doing quest to gain things or end game zones to fight the big baddie.  Until a game come out that allows us to really control what occurs in our world and gives us as many options as we can think of we will continue to see games like Tera, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, etc.  This isn't to say it's a bad thing but the genre is changing because we are changing with all this technology you can't really implement something that will take a player weeks to complete.  Take SW:TOR for example I can watch a youtube video to figure out how to get any datacron I want in a matter of minutes.  I can watch a youtube video on how to kill bosses in world of warcraft..  All these things weren't available to us many years ago (at least not streamlined like they are now), and that's why games lasted longer without boredom!

They weren't. They all sucked for me and the max lvl stuff was only slightly better. Going by the I'd say I will enjoy the game even more when the juice finally spills.

OP is right all the way, fanboys and trolls both ruing the games before they even release.

I canceled my preorder but I'm sure I will play at release thinking that the dirty chat will clear up cause as it was on CB1 I couldn't stand it at all. I subbed Aion for a month and last night the chat on Israphel (might have spelled it wrong) was bad and looked a lot like Teras cb1 chat. Main problem is people play a game and instead on focusing on playing the game they keep talking ish about it or compare it to other games, this generation of gamers is by far the worst I've seen by far and been playing mmorpg for 10+ years.

The chat was totally messed up but it should not be like that when the game goes live I hope. I logged into the Euro version and chat was totally different. People were talking about Tera mainly asking questions and LFG.

Once again it was a CBT1 where codes were able to be farmed by 4chan/Reddit from IGN for a week before the beta released.

European server was great on the last day, not one game bashing dicussion and just people looking for groups or asking question about the game and getting answers.

I've been here before Sorrow with other posters as well as my LONG distant past self. What we tested is pretty much a fair example of what TERA is at its "Core".

I remember when people claimed that the last "half" of Beta meant "sweeping" changes could occur, and that it didn't represent the final product. This was false in EVERY Closed Beta I've been a part of.

I remember when people claimed that "focused" testing didn't allow us to see the game as it "would be". Generally speaking this was also a farce spread by "Overly Hopeful" people looking for their salvation from the MMO-Stink that is the market now.

This is no different, and at the end of the day TERA is pretty much a repition of what we've seen in CB1. The ONLY difference is going to be PvP for CB2, and the PvP server MIGHT be where I find MY fun in TERA. Otherwise, the game as a whole is just a Themepark with a different combat system.

I agree with that. Most people seem to be approaching the game in a measured manner, talking about the pluses and acknowledging the flaws. The biggest danger of a rush to judgement on the game seems to be combat, as it doesn't really start to get dynamic until the late teens.

I personally like some things about the game, a fair bit, but I also see some standard MMO design retread that has me worried. I'm keeping an open mind and will continue to partake of the beta events. It seems very possible this game will be a good match for a fair number of players, but I'm not sure how broad it's appeal will be.

I quite enjoyed my experience playing as a Lancer, in both PvE & PvP, my only gripe being that most of the Lancer's attacks look the same because youre... well, carrying a lance. The pointy end does the damage.

The combat is pleasing, and the animations do a excellent job of providing 'feedback' to the player with camera shakes and staggered hit animations to make you feel like youre -really- hitting your enemy.

My only concern thus far is the large amount of options when it comes to crafting, enchantments, crystals, dyes, transmogrification, etc. There are a lot of game features which feel like youre playing house-keeping with your characters inventory and character sheet, and there arent any tutorials for them, leaving many newcomers confused or worse; completely oblivious to the features.

The T4 KTERA Patch seems to be addressing a few issues as well, which I look forward to seeing on the NA version later this year.

All in all, I give it a 7/10 for a First Impression.
