we own the sky

So I'm currently downloading the trial. I played a trial account in the past for only one day, I didn't quite give it a chance and now I'm dying for a harsh sandboxy world for some reason, so here I am.

Firstly, what is the relationship between new players and veterans? If I am to start playing this week, will I be an effective member of a guild within a month (playing every day)?

I'm coming here for an fantasy fps kill player outlet. I love fps-PvP like shooters. How does the combat function? If I have shield am I going to be able to press a button to raise it, block an attack, then attack with my sword with another key? What is the range-detection mechanism like? I've heard of situations of people getting killed by 'apparently out of range attacks.' Can someone tell me a little about that?

If there is a great example of PvP (guild on guild or small party) on youtube, I'd love to see it. I'm hesitant to go perusing through videos because I like being surprised by games. The more videos I watch, the more expectations I have, and I'd like to keep the low for this game for obvious reasons.

Populuation I won't even ask about. I don't really care as long as I am able to get into a guild and hang out with them. I understand that the activity in the game may be low, but if I'm having a good time with others, I really won't mind.

So these are pretty standard questions and most likely have been asked here before. Forgive me, I like being able to discuss it myself.

Have a nice day! I'll be in game by tonight! I'm pretty excited, and am going to try to give this game a large amount of chances, haha.

edit: Forgot a question. I don't have much experience in crafting and as I understand it, you need to craft to some extent here in order to get your stats up on time. I don't have a problem with that. I'd rather not spend weeks doing this though. The first week if all I'm doing is crafting, sure, sounds kind of strategic and fun. But I want to be able to fight others some time soon. How does this "crafting for pvp" system work for the rest of you? What's your personal experience with it from a new player through your career here?

It seems to me that you are one of those persons that needs pretty much everything handed to them without have to move a finger. The only answer i will give you is that you can found a guild to join in even at first day. Theres a section about guilds that recruiting in official MO forums. A week will be more than enough for getting a char combat ready if you know how to do it or do the necessary search or even get some guidance from experienced players in a guild. Trial accounts though will limit you on that since the skill cap is 60 when maximum is 100 which gives to the vets another advantage against you. Also theres a huge war going on in the server that involves most of the guilds that are out there so if your concern is about getting ganged by RPK's/ griefers i guess you will not at least not often while the war lasts since they have their hands full.

I didn't see anything in his post that indicated that he was looking for hand holding. A better reply would have been to give him a name of a newbie guild.

Asking for youtube pvp videos while searching for Mortal online pvp in youtube will lead you to hundreds of videos or even in the first page of official MO forums theres that http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/videos-screenshots-art/, asking info about guilds while  theres a thread in the first page of MO official forums that leads you to that http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/guild-recruitment/  or even asking crafting info when theres that http://www.mortalonline.com/forums/player-guides/

And to be a little bit more specific all those links are from the first page of official MO forums. Not hidden neither under subforums so forgive me sir but even if you believe the apposite i m convinced that OP is not asking questions cause he wants answers that he cant find. He is asking questions cause he is bored to look for answers.

I don't mind that you think I'm looking for 'handouts' because yea I could have looked up information that I requested in the post. I like hearing to-date opinions from people who are playing the game, that's all. As silly as your assumption may be, I appreciate you giving me in the info you did. I didn't have a look at the official forums before I posted. Currently looking through the many guides listed.

Yes deffinitely. It takes less than a week to fully max out a character and be PvP ready. Learning how to PvP will take some time though depending on how fast you pick it up.

I'm coming here for an fantasy fps kill player outlet. I love fps-PvP like shooters. How does the combat function? If I have shield am I going to be able to press a button to raise it, block an attack, then attack with my sword with another key? What is the range-detection mechanism like? Yes the combat is all manual. By default right mouse button blocks and left mouse buttons swings. There are 3 directions you can block and 3 directions you can swing. If you block into an opponets swing (ie they swing at your left side and you block to your left stide) you'll get a perfect block and which means you have the oppertunity to hit them with a counter (it ignors armor and hits for full damage).

Hmm the out of range attacks could be refering to lag issues some people have. When someone has a terrible connection they can hit in you some odd places, but I've only encountered one person like this in the past month or so. There also use to be some big issues when crossing node lines that lead to people getting hit by others who were far away but node lines have received a lot of attention and the lag is only a second or two now when you cross them normally.

This ones pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0muFbBy0Ls

Yeah if your just going by numbers the population is lower than a lot of MMO's, but it's still easy to find some PvP and people to play with.

If your in a guild then you don't need to craft at all. Crafting isn't needed to raise stats. That being said if you do want to craft you can easily max a crafter out in less then a week.

Crafting is just important to solo player or people who like to be self independent (like me) because in this game you will die and you will lose your stuff...a lot. So basically if you don't have a guild supplying you with stuff then you'll need to either find a crafter who will sell you stuff often or make your own.

Personally if your just going to have 1 account then that means you can have 3 characters. I'd make a fighter, butcher, and a armor crafter. You can pvp and kill mobs with the fighter, butcher the caracasses with the butcher (this is the best way to make money), craft your armor with the crafter, and then buy your weapons with the money.

There is the guild Newbie based in Fabernum that is a great place for new players to start. Also there are a ton of great guides on the official forums and the player question section is a good place to ask questions.

If you have any other questions feel free to post them here also.

It really only takes a couple weeks to max your character.  But be prepaired to be killed many MANY times over until then.

I'm coming here for an fantasy fps kill player outlet. I love fps-PvP like shooters. How does the combat function? If I have shield am I going to be able to press a button to raise it, block an attack, then attack with my sword with another key? What is the range-detection mechanism like? If you are talking about M@B the combat is not as responsive as that.  I think it is mostly due to the horrible prediction system.  There are times your shield will be up but for some reason they hit you in the back even tho they are in front of you on your screen.  The prediction system is very bad.  What makes it worse is there are alot of vets who know how to use the system to thier advantage.  Also you will be hit by people not even near you.  I wish SV would go back to beta combat or pre the prediction system.

If there is a great example of PvP (guild on guild or small party) on youtube, I'd love to see it. I'm hesitant to go perusing through videos because I like being surprised by games. Personally I think the videos make the game look bad but there are a ton on the forums go look.

Populuation I won't even ask about. I don't really care as long as I am able to get into a guild and hang out with them. I understand that the activity in the game may be low, but if I'm having a good time with others, I really won't mind.

It has always been low.  Right now we have had a little spike in trials.  But there has always been a low retention rate.  I think there will be a huge spike when the new miracle patch comes out.  It is up to SV to actually do a good patch to keep them imo.

So these are pretty standard questions and most likely have been asked here before. Forgive me, I like being able to discuss it myself.

You do not need to craft to get stats up for a fighter just go block and let pigs hit you and all your stats will be max in no time.  And there is no other crafting than for pvp.  The only reason to craft is for pvp.  There are "millions" of recipes but there are only a handful of viable weapons look around at what the pvp guilds are using.

As far as a new player is concerned be prepaired to be griefed into oblivion.  There is no game for the sheep so they left long ago.  There is no real drawback to being a mindless killer, so people will literally kill you just to see what you may have in your pack.  Also there is a way to kill and stay blue because the MC system has to little of a time to it.  I have a blue I greif kill on all the time and I would say he has killed hundreds of people and never went red.
