lead designer: alright people we need to come up with some cool races for our game lets hear some ideas designer 1: alright how about a race that looks like a demon but just personifies sexy, i mean they wear skimpy clothes and hell we can make them girate when casting spells lead designer: yeah great idea that should bring in the male teen demographic Designer 2: how about a cute little bear race, not a lot of games are doing cute little teddy bears! Lead designer: yeah ok we can go with that .. Designer 3: how about a race thats hundreds of years old but we make them look like 10 year olds wearing panties and such? .... ... .... Lead designer: you're fired gtfo! |

Originally posted by Vesavius This is not about beein offended , but a principal thing. Personaly i have nothing against the current version. But i can see the point of all the people that hate beeing told what they may see or not. Same shit here in germany most, violent games are cut beyond recognition when there is blood involved. Tits, half naked children, alien sex all ok but a bit too violent and you have authorities indexing the game (=no sale) Germany HATE this shit and usualy when a produc gets that treatment we are better of buying it from UK or outside germany to get teh full product not that half cut one. Guess alot of the feeling arises from there. |

They aren't "preteen", derp. Think it's funny that people keep calling them kids. They aren't kids, there are no bigger Elin. They are just a small female race. I can't believe anyone actually accepts this as a legitimate argument. It's obvious that the aesthetic design- that is, the scantily clad preteen girl- preceeded the lore here. They simply chose to rationalize their design choice after the fact by saying, "Well, that's just as big as they get!"
Also find it funny that no one in the west cares that these characters they consider "preteen" are fighting huge monsters and getting hurt or even killed? Perfect showing of American mentality. We care more about what a kid wears then the fact of them getting hurt or killed.
a) To my knowledge, there's no permadeath. The character can never "die" in any realistic sense. Furthermore, these characters hardly represent actual people. They don't eat, bathe, sleep, form relationships, have families or friends, etc.
b) You can go through the history of any culture you'd like, American or otherwise; every culture has its war heroes. The fantasy of being some sort of archetypal alpha male figure is neither unnatural nor immoral. It's genetic.
c) The setting of this game is so obviously unreal that it creates a detatchment from the death of your character or any character. I've never- not even one time- played an MMO, had my character die, and felt a pang of sorrow or remorse. It's not a real character. It's very obviously not a real character. This transitions to my final point; the design of a preteen girl wearing a skimpy outfit is very real, and very readily imitated. There's nothing fantastic or far fetched about something that looks like a child wearing sexy, revealing clothing. It doesn't require any stretching of the imagination- so that's why the previous Elin design was sick and the violent setting of the game isn't.

Originally posted by nerovipus32 I've heard of beauty pagents for children existing, but I've never seen one, for what it's worth. That being said, even the ones I've heard of don't promote the sexualization of the children in any way. The children aren't scored on their sex appeal, it's more an exercise in confidence and preparation. I'm not defending them, but you're making them sound like some kiddy strip club. |

I rather they just remove the "race" entirely. Totally kills immersion to see a 8 year old girl fighting side by side by 10 foot giants. |
