So as title says...what MMOs have the best city(ies)?
I know Age of Conan has really epic cities...they are large and look amazing. Vanguard has amazing cities, some say too big...but they actually felt like a city when I was in them. WoW has rather nice cities in terms of aethetics, but are rather small and not really feeling like a city. But the atmosphere of them are really nice.
Any other MMOs that have amazing cities? Either in terms of looks, atmosphere, size or all three? My youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheExplorium MMORPG.com is like 4chan, but for gamers. WoW already does WoW good. PvPers that gank newbies, are carebears. They don't want a challenge (like a carebear), they just want easy mode (like a carebear) and a no challenge combat (like a carebear). |

No one? Did I name all three MMOs that have the best cities or something, so no more to add?
Well, one reason I posted here was cause I love cities in MMOs. Well, as long as the whole game isn't a city...but I really like the atmosphere of them. I think VG, AoC and WoW have amazing cities...but I'm sure there are others?
Or are there really only three MMOs that have good cities at all? :(
I know Guild Wars 2 is going to have epic cities, at least judging by videos...from what I've seen, they'll probably be my favorite out of any MMO. But, that isn't out yet.

LOTRO. Bree always had a nice feel to it and so did Rivendell, but that wasn't really a social hub. Can't say anything about Lothlorien because i never got through Moria. |

I loved swimming the canals of Cabilis and the sewers of Qeynos on my Ikky SK from EQ. The wood elf city (forget the name) was cool too built up in the treetops...until you accidentally fall off.
Windurst from FFXI is very pretty, but you could tell it was designed primarily for Japanese players. The population is almost entirely cat girls and chibis.

My favorite cities so far are from Vanguard. New Targonor and Khal being my absolute favorites. I'd pick SWTOR if the cities were explorable, open spaces. They look awesome though. |

City of Heroes. The whole game takes place in the city of Paragon, RI! - Al Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse. |

I used to love wondering the streets of Britain looking for unsuspecting victums, the city was always full of people and you could buy or steal anything you desired :) |

Whatever happe....ohhhh yeah, SOE. Heard they bought MxO, REed the combat, and made DCUO. Thinking back...there was a lot of good things going for that game. Although I remmeber only wanting to play because I couldn't due to hardware.
That was all back in a time where copying the most popular thing wasn't even really done and if it was it was never admitted openly. When the genre was still trying new ideas. |

Originally posted by demodar Definitely Lineage 2. Because they were cities/towns. People would sell their wares there, there were clan halls in the cities that weren't instanced, people running around checking shops, making deals etc. |

Vanguard, I loved the atmosphere, the music was just right. I know many players just sat in cities enjoying the soothing music, you felt part of the world. |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

As of today, I say TERA. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fA_Qdu2Nv8w Epic feeling, easily navigable, and it feels 'alive' like a good MMO city should. Nostalgia-wise? I will always love Qeynos :) |
