Bethesda recently spent a week which they called "gamejam" in which Todd Howard basically just said to the entire dev team to "do whatever the hell you like" with the creation kit for a week.

Among some of the creations are:
- Seasonal foliage and shedding leaves on trees.
- Flow-based water shaders.
- Fully animated spears.
- Magic and ranged combat slow-motion kill-cams.
- Water arrows and a Detect Life-esque "Assassin's Vision"
- Guards that re-light torches.
- Paralysis runes.
- Moving platforms and hanging structures in dungeons.
- Fast-flowing underground currents.
- Pitch-black dungeons.
- New follower customisation, commands and favoriting.
- Adoption.
- Building of your own home (with skeletal butler).
- Combining spells for new effects.
- Goblins.
- New Draugr
- Waygate fast travel.
- Skeletal horse mounts.
- Mounted combat.
- Dragon mounts.
- Soulbug familiar.
- Kinect-based Shouts.
- SSAO.
- Better underwater visuals.
- Footprints in snow.
- Verlet surfaces for non-rigid objects (which means morningstars and flabby giants).
- Fire and ice arrows.
- Werebears.
- Lycanthropy perk tree.
- Vampire feeding.
- Becoming a flying vampire lord with vampire imp minions.
- Mudcrab animation tweaks.
- A 100 foot-tall mudcrab.

If it contains the words video and game, it must be a WOW clone.

That's actually one of the easiest things for you to do.

Grab the kit and do some of the tutorials and you should be good to go.

I was about to post a thread about this, but I was beaten to it.  There's many things in that video I hope make it in the future.

Seasonal cycl would be so nice to have in a MMO, but it seems like most games even cut down the day/night cycle instead nowadays.

Yeah, Bethesda are good with what they do, it will be interesting to see how their (well, Zenimax) MMO will turn out.

I still think skyrim blows compared to oblivion and morrowind, mostly due to how dumbed down the game was feature wise. Its really no diffrent gameplay wise than a low-budget rpg it just looks prettier. I've actually played some low budget rpg's that were far better than skyrim in almost everyway save for graphics. Though the CK and the games fans will probally make skyrim what it should have been in the first place. For one the fanbase seems far better at fixing bugs than bethesda is. Look at all the unoffical patches that fix thousands of bugs bethesda was to lazy to fix. I am just glad I don't buy pc games really. I just torrent them, I haven't played a single game from any non-indie dev in like 3 years that was worth a purchaise, and its just going farther down the tubes. I did buy Terraria, dungeon defenders, space pirates and zombies and the binding of issac recently, they may not be too pretty graphics wise, but they have what almost all devs seem to be forgetting is most important:

Gameplay

I don't care how good a game looks, if the gameplay sucks, its still a shit game (looks at most mmo's released since wow) Most of em are pretty but fail hard in the gameplay dept. Other games are no exceptions, CoD titles are bascally the exact same game reguratated every damn year, yet people eat it up likle crazy, have almost all gamers become mindless zombies? It sure feels like it tbh.

Kingdoms of Amalur while it seems like a good game, to me it just felt like a single player world of warcraft and I got bored of it quick.

Also if they were able to do all this in a week, why the hell wasn't all this stuff in the game? Other than the fact the game was dumbed down due to the x360's somewhat limited capabilities now a days.

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

or

B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

Well Siveria, if you are a big fan of RPGs and expect that much more, I hope you kept your old CDs of classics like Fallout 1 & 2, BG1 & 2, Planescape: Torment, KOTOR 1, NWN, Morrowind, etc.  Because for years, RPGs have not come out in the combination of numbers and quality compared to the 90s and early 2000's.  I'd specifically point out the titles from the late 90s and early 2000s as a "Golden Era" (IMO, of course).

RPGs for years have been pretty sparse.  The pickings are slim.  Name off the number of nice, prolific RPGs in the last 7 years.  It'll be a challenge to come up with even 7 titles to cover those 7 years

With the current generation of RPGs that we have now, the most prolific ones are Skyrim, Kingdoms of Amalur, and Witcher 1 and 2.  You can count Oblivion I guess also.  But other than that... not much out there.

For me, Skyrim is great.  It definitely has flaws, but so did Oblivion and Morrowind.  Took some time of Bethesda to patch them, but they didn't patch Oblivion like they could have.  But what Skyrim has gotten, just like previous TES titles, is alot of mod attention and love.  From here on, with the Creation Kit and given even more time, you can bet the modders will do some wonders.  There's modders out there that I have tracked as working from Oblivion, FO3, FONV, and now Skyrim.  And with the huge influx of players with Skyrim compared to past Bethesda titles, I think there's going to be an even larger talent pool for mods.

Another edge due to the mods is that, someone else out there assuredly feels the way you do about how vanilla Skyrim gameplay is not quite to their exact liking.  Just like in Oblivion, FO3, and FONV, someone's going to make gameplay specific tweaks.  More "hardcore," more options, trying to bring back old elements from previous games, or big sweeping changes.  It's always been done before.

It's the unofficial "ace" Skyrim has over its competing RPG brethren.

So you are saying that if the car doesn't justify the selling price it is ok for you to steal it rather than just not buy it and find a car that does?

Naw, its far FAR to easy to track a stolen car, not worth the risk. <(^_-)>, that and I lack a liscense anyway. Like I said only games I have found that had gameplay that made them worth buying has been indie titles lately. Generic fps garbage like call of duty and pretty much any fps out there aren't worth the plastic they burned on. I did buy borderlands during steams big xmas sale, got the game and all dlc's for not even 10 bucks, thought it was a fair deal myself, though thats more of a fps/rpg hybrid.

Like I said that doesn't justify your stealing the ones you dont think warrant buying, and your doing so makes you as much a part of the problem.

The only reason Skyrim isn't super amazing without mods is because it had to held back thanks to the crappy consoles. Those indie games you love so much don't have to worry about that. With a year or two the line between indie game and mainstream will be blended more so than it already is and your logic of pirating PC games will be even more flawed than it is now

You complained a whole lot about the game play but never specifically said why. Why not tell us exactly why you thought it was dumbed down?

That's no excuse for you to steal things, but I will agree that indie games have for the past few years regularly been much better games, and more importantly, more innovative. An indie dev team of just a few people or just the one, has more courage to try new things because making the game is their passion, and most of the time, they don't have investors to answer to who are trying to dumb the game down or make it have "mainstream appeal," whatever the hell that is. That's one great thing about Steam — it makes those games more visible and accessible for a large number of gamers.

In short, don't steal — but do vote with your dollar.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

Mounted combat is something I've always wanted to see in more RPGs.  Especially fantasy type games showing knight-looking characters that look like they belong on a charger.  The first I think to do it right was Mount & Blade, and it's a great experience.  Even with mounted combat, there's still ways for infantry to mess you up bad.
