Originally posted by LadyNoh I don't think every game faceplants on launch and those that do don't always blossom. I'm not saying TSW will be bad because of AoC, I just don't agree with your statement about all MMOs faceplanting. LVL 60 Barb__________________1550 Achievement Points |

Source Engine is valves own upgrade if the quake engine. Valve licenced engine from is for half life 1, then improved the code themselves over the years. The quake engine gas branched into many variants at many.companies over the years, and us probably the most widely used game engine family.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Ux3DKxxFoM Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I can't wait to try this game but to ignore everything that happened before is naive, however my prior experience is not that bad at all when compared to most mmo launches. ----- |

Pointless thread. Try it, don't try it. Don't be led by Mr. Hidden Agenda's opinion.
I'm trying it ... deal with it. |

Calling something that hsant even released yet a failure merely makes you look like a fool. Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" |

Originally posted by gamesrfun a) they are holding the game for over 4years, they spend little money each year in dev so unless you have a cost report or something you can't really say how much was spend on the project. b) its brutal true, but right now GW2 is not out, SWtor failed hard, a new shiny thing now will get some people, even if its like swtor did, lots of box sold, half people still with sub up c) funcom was never know for open betas and betas outside they controled servers, they like to use they internal tester, not outside people, plus they are leaking info for years about the game just to keep people looking at it,
I was looking up for this game before till I read they would make a P2P cash shop, so yeah gonna stay far from it if its true and I really hope the game fail HARD if that is true |

Originally posted by Loke666 Past behaviour gives a hint about future behaviour. Sure it is not a guarantee that they will behave the same way but I have not seen any signs that TSW will be much different than AoC in therms of execution. And it is not like Funcom are new to this. They have been in the industry for ten years and have already released two MMORPGS, neither which I found particulary good. More over there are strong rumours that they will have both P2P and RMT so again another reason why this game will be a failure. Or rather not a good game imo. I am sure it will sell boxes and make some money for FunCom. |

Originally posted by gamesrfun I dont think any of this is true? Do you have anything to back this up? Funcom has had a money surge from age of conan. Even as a failure it still made then a pretty decent amount of money. TSW has been in development for years. And there is nothing say release wont be pushed backed. Funcom wanted to push back the release of age of conan, but eidos pushed them to release early. Rift was able to pull in 100 mil in revenues. I am pretty sure the secret world can equal that.

Originally posted by Yamota It's also important to look at the people behind TSW. It's Ragnar Tornquist who has two successful games (The longest Journey and Dreamfall), both Funcom games. It's true that AO and AoC had rough launches, but the beta of TSW does look quite different than AoC two months after launch. It's stable and low level game mechanics are actually fun. (I have tried the TSW beta). |

Well personally on both of these launches I had an absolute blast, and got more than my moneys worth in the first month of play. Yes it was broken and PR was horrible, but in the end they delivered fun addictive games. TSW is a different dev team, led by a guy who has produced 2 console games which require extreme levels of polish. AoC was not just a new game but a new engine. TSW is using that same engine. Also if you look up beta reports the game engine appears to be pretty rock solid allowing 30+ hours of continuous no crash gameplay. I will be all over this sweetly designed game from day 1 and I will preorder the second it is available to support the ideas that they are putting forward. |

With GW2 i have a different logic, there i'll buy it either way, because its a one-time investment anyways. |

It's an okay game, but people suffer from a misguided belief that this is a sandbox or even a sandpark game. It is first and foremost a themepark game. It has it's nice bits, but it's not a game changer for the genre. I do find it much more entertaining than Age of Conan, but as a casual gamer, I find SWTOR's gameplay and combat more my cup of tea. |
