I used to believe that.  Turbine was touted as having a good hybrid model, but they have slowly been approaching P2W as well. 

What games have F2P payment models that you like?  For me LOTRO still may have the best model but I still have major issues with them.  US F2P MMOs have a long way to go before they end up like the crappy asian P2W MMOs.

At the present time, I am unable to pay cash for items in Star Trek Online.

However, with the Dilithium Exchange you are able to refine up to 8000 per day then use those to exchange for C Store Points.

Moneygrabtic (aka Cryptic) is essentially selling you whatever ingame stuff you want for real cash.

Even to me as someone who stopped playing this online store... err online game a long time ago, after realizing how they are trying to milk or even scam the players for every cent possible, it is common knowledge of how the scheme works. Then again they still seem to remain afloat which means there are enough mentally... not so gifted people around throwing money at that company. So posting the following might end up resulting in even more guillible people gifting cash to Craptic.

Let's just hope the educational systems of this world are not quite as bad as it seems these days and the majority of people will not fall for the company's tricks.

Anyway, "not able to pay cash for items in STO"? Think again:

Buy a ton of junkpoints (aka c-$tore points) for real cash, sell them in the dilithium exchange for dilithium, go to the dilithium store and buy pretty much whatever high end/max level gear etc. (including those new locked boxes) you desire.

And surprise surprise, the direct access buttons to both of those two junkyards (aka stores) are right next to each other, below the minimap about as much "in your face" as it gets, who would have thought... right, at this point pretty much anyone who knows Craptic let alone Perfect World.

Read my post again.    I know it is ultimately CBS who has to signoff before it goes in game.  Hence, my comment that it is sad to see CBS approving this stuff.

I find it amazing that players actually fall for these line of BS from Cryptic.  They do not post the odds because they do not want to hurt the sales of their loot boxes.  Period.  They figure if you know you have a less than 1% chance to win something you want, you will be less inclined to part with that cash Cryptic is so desperate for. 

After having two vice admiral accounts, and have enjoyed the game for free till now. This mornings actions by Cryptic have become blatant. What they have done now was shut down the exchange so the only way for their in house rigged casino to pay off in real cash was to do this and claim some bogus claim that it somehow broke for the first time.

My wife and I were almost willing to create two account subscriptions, but I am unwilling to reward deceptive and somewhat illegal behavior. This would have been illegal prior to 2001.

This is getting a bit ridiculous... First of we have an ingame Currency in STO that is not bought with real money.. we can trade and buy stuff with it as in anny other MMO... Energy credits its called I think..

second we have the Dilithium that we can transfer two C store money... Or buy ships for ingame or special items etc...

So in fact we have 3 diffrent currencys in game E, D and C...

You get Energy credits very easaly its not hard at all to grind up a massive amount of E credit..

Dilithium Credits are harder to get as you can anly get 8000 per day.. the grind to Refine 8k dilithium is a walk in the park though, dosent take more then a few hours at most...

Now the new LOOT BOX will be opend with C credits.. we can only get this by spending REAL money BUT YOU CAN TRADE THOSE ITEMS YOU FIND TO OTHER PLAYERS ON THE MARKET FOR Energy credits...

So if somone gets a second Cardasian ship he can put it on the market and people can buy it... or any other item that is FOUND inside the BOX.. this means that people dont have to spend a DIME of REAL MONEY IF THEY DONT WANT 2.  As long as someone is nice enough to put it up on the Exchange/AH.. you can buy the item for ingame currency E...

hope this clears up all this missconceptions about what a RIPP off this is...

Another thing.. you dont have a million diffren ships in this game and even if you would spend some money on the C store wont be more then you would if you bought the game and subbed for a month... And you can over time save up enough Dilithium to buy the ship you want ... you just have to play the GAME... a few months... OMG its free it cost you nothing to play it...

You can do 3 pvp scenarios over and over, doing 3 takes about 15-30m and gives 1440 dilithium, Each day you can do an exploration takes 30-1hour tops gives you 1440 dilithium.. you can compleat 3 player created missions, goes very fast if you use the NAGAS.. and it gives you 1440 dilithium.. Your offline Duty officers can bring in annything from 5-2000 dilithium depending on the mission you send them on and how well they do it.. Combining these things and you might have to spend 3-4 hours getting your 8K a day... and I suspect you can do it even faster if you want...

But im guessing it will come back up? or have we gotten a statment saying we are closing the Exchange for good? if so we are in a diffrent situation...

I read it was back up.. it has gone down before... its not new.. also if its down a DAY or 2 you just have to wait to convert.. you can still get your daily 8k... refined.. so its not really a problem as long as it at some point comes back up. I they take it away then that is another story though..

Cardasian ships , today , Jem-Hadar for X-mas , when do the Romulan, Borg etc.. ones become availible ? I find it hilarious that people are up in arms now . Cryptic has been pulling this crap since the game was announced . I guess the question begs , how high does the crap have to stack before people have figured out how bad Craptic is ?

Give it time and you will get wise to the shenanigans.  Cryptic knows they can make a fortune off these boxes, so they are conveniently closing down the one means players have to convert Dilithium into C-Points.  To be clear, they do not want you playing the game for free and collecting Dilithium for free, then converting that Dilithium to C-Points.  They are losing sales under that scenario.  Therefore, they shut down the method for getting "free" C-Points making you whip out your wallet and spending "real" money the only means for you to get keys etc.

You do understand that I havent spent a single sent on this game? and Im not going 2... All you whine about dont effect me.. People will put Those BOX items on the AH... ( I mean one moron Bought 30 boxes and dident get the ship, his epic whine on the forums was hilarious) now he probably has alot of stuff he needs to get ridd off and Im there to pick it up FOR FREE..

This game is only Fail if you are dumb enough to spend money and then whine about doing so...

Fallen Earth does the same. But in that game keys are also rare loot from Boss/Master mobs. Just more rare then the lock boxes.  And lock boxes themselves can contain keys also.

Maybe keys for those lock boxes are a rare drop too in STO?

I havent felt forced to whip out anything.. I really dont get this. Just because there is a chash shop do you all feel you have to buy from it?

I mean there is no meaningfull PvP in this game so there is no PAY to WIN... You really dont have to spend any money to play it.. Is it just me or am I missing some reason why you all think we need to rush/or be forced to go to the cash shop..

It will take me some time to get the dilithium to buy a Admiral shiop for free so even if the exchange is only open once a week it still wont effect me... Also I have got a free Admiral ship on both my klingon and Federation after they did there 2 year anaversary thing..

I personaly dont undestand why you all feel you are getting scamed.. Go play World of TANKS... then come back here and say STO isent Free to play... Feels like you have wery limited experince about shady tactics that force its players to PAY TO WIN..

First, not everyone plays STO for the same reasons as you.  Second, reading comprehension goes a long way.  I do not think you will find most folks feel they are being forced to do anything with the cash shop.  What they object to is the only means to get an item in game that they may like (eg. ships) is to buy a gift box/key where they only have a slight chance to get them, and these have to be paid for with real money.  Just poke around over at the official forums and you will see the posts where players are asking to just put the ships themselves into the C-Store and be done with it.  Personally, I have never complained about having to buy a ship that I might want.  I will complain, however, that these are put into "gift/lottery boxes" as the only method of getting them.

Turning off the Diltihium exchange - the only way for people to get C-Points for free - coupled with the flagrant XYZ@XWR won a Cardassian Galor Ship! spam is also what folks are objecting to.  You will note how the D-Exchange conveniently goes down a day before a "big weekend" when they know a ton of folks will be logging for the start of the new FE. 

A crack dealer could make that same argument. "Hey all I do is stand here on this corner and people put money in my hand". Why should that be illegal too?

When you exploit people's weakness, it's still unethical and unfortunately due to a strange change in mindset among society, it is no longer considered illegal, well at least for corporation that is. What's next , snake oil ships?

It is a culmination of a lot of things really.  This is the company who said that they have a staff "smaller than a Starbucks" as an excuse as to why they cannot create new mission content and features, yet they can crank out cash shop items like it is going out of style.  How many times have they flip flopped or outright lied about KDF content?
