Did you listen to how Johnny boy worded the sub number of TOR?

He said "We have sold 2 million copies and have 1.7 million active subs. The rest either haven't activited or are on the free trial"

So that means either

1: TOR has a 100% retention rate (He mentioned 2 viarables. Those who haven't activited and those who are on the trials. He left out how many they lost. X + Y =/= 0 )

or

2: He pulled the numbers before the free trial was over

Pick one

Think you are possibly misunderstanding.

It would seem they have sold ~2 million boxes, while others are on a free trial (i.e. no sale, and without a subscription).  Out of the ~2 million box sales 1.7 million are active at the time of reporting.   The number of active players = 1.7 million active subs + those on a free trial.

There is no free trial. As soon as you install the game, if you want to play, you need to set up a subscription plan. You'll only be charged after the end of the free month of course but still, people who are playing the free month are concidered as subscribers.

Got Heavy Pop on my server, most are in the high level zones or on the fleet, but DKass gets a lot most days have 2-3 instances of that zone.

They state there is.  So people are getting one somehow.  Unless they are classing those within the first month as the free trial, and those beyond that subscriped as have payed above the box value.

That would mean they have 1.7million retained players, with the other 300k floating between unactivated codes, those within their first month and those that did not pay the first subscription (i.e. left).

I left due to lack of players. 15 in fleet and maybe 70ish in the entire republic were on that sad day. Sat in WZ queue for 45 min. The way the entire game is set up is kinda mind boggling and very evident that it is their first rodeo.

Looks like it should run on a Ipad but even top teir gaming rigs are having problems.

Don't get me wrong. It feels very KOTOR but not very MMO.

I think all the free play and such has impacted the servers, that and well, Xmas break is long over for some.

I'm on Vulkar highway and it's pretty common to see 3-4 instances of Fleet with over 3-400 peeps there.  Other planets aren't quite so high, but I've never seen below 50-60 anywhere I've been.  I'm Impside so that may be the difference, as I visited same server, Pub side and the fleet there had 23 people, no extra instances.  Ilum is now back to it's typical 100-150 imps running around, so if you've got a reb guild - bring it, you'll find lots of opponents (really that's the case anywhere)

I think people should stop criticizing the game at this point. It's getting sad. Yes, Bioware dun goofed and the game failed. But let's not kick a piece of garbage themepark WoW clone when it's down. Just leave it be and let it fade into obscurity.

Out of curiosity, which game(s) (MMOs) are you playing.

Nothing. Just like my post. Yet, Albinism is a realm problem for some people, and to allow that post to remain is what is wrong.

Obviously the people in charge of these forums have no idea what is acceptable and what is not acceptable.

Nothing at the moment. There doesn't seem to be anything worth playing. I'm downloading the Tera Online beta client right now just to check it out, but I don't think it will be worth any real time investment.

Well at this moment, there are 30~ servers at Heavy load or more, the rest are Standard and 15~ are light.

I understand people think this game is dying but everytime I log in it seems to be quite the contrary happening. Why is that?

I do agree they need to get rid of about 20~ servers, and put those individuals on the pre-existing servers. But besides getting rid of those 20, i cant see the population decreasing as much as people are saying. Hell on Dark Reaper there are 130~ in the fleet. This number has been about the same or incresing a bit for the past month.

** Note - Im playing Republic on Dark REaper, where we are outnumbered 3:1 easily. We get instant PvP queues :)

mainly because if you look at server status over a period of time, like every day  of one week vs the next, it shows a steady decline. Then you look at xfire trends, and the game has fallen faster than any game in memory, even WAR.

But when you look at the hundreds, if not thousands of posts all over the net and the home forums deleting them faster than a gas powered blender, it's hard to imagine the game isn't tanking fast. But stating the obvious is being a hater I guess.

But it isn't unexpected, even the big guns know its coming. Right after that big 1.7 million subs sales pitch, the next day the main investors came out with this:

Evan Wilson of Pacific Crest wrote Friday that he has raised his sales estimate for “Star Wars” to 2.2 million units from 1.5 million units for the quarter, and said he remains “comfortable” with his 800,000 subscriber target when the company’s fiscal year ends in late March.

“Admittedly, we set our expectations as if Star Wars was to be a good, not great, MMO,” he wrote. “Fortunately, we think the company did too.”

So even they expect to lose over a million players by march 31st.

Where are the 1.7 million players, where do they hide ?  =)

I was on an EGA server.   When I quit in January, I would have killed three kittens a day for at least a week for 36 players on Tatooine.   And cute kittens, not ugly, scruffy, mangy, one-eyed kittens...     But it was 12 ish...

I think that's very interesting.   Because they've sold 2.1 million copies through February 11th...   And their sales are so far in the tank that it could take the NA/EURO market until mid-March, or later, to hit 2.2 million.     Which is in line with my projection.   Their sales are just horrible (27K last week, another 20%+ decline from prior week).    I really can't wait to see what the sales for  February 18th, 2012 will be...   Won't know until Tuesday I think...  But I'm interested...

But I think the March 31st the subscription numbers are going to be inflated.   Lots of people rushed out and bought 60-day and 180-day cards...   Plus the month that came with the game...   It's going to take time for all that to clear and for us to figure out wha aree base recurring subscription base really will be.

Plus they're going to have all those asian release units out there.   Since the game comes with a free month...    They'll count 100% as subscriptions.   Even if they do not renew.   Kind of like the trick they pulled with the 12/31/2011 numbers...   Bragging about a meaningless and inflated sub-count since none of the subs from initial sales could have expired.

I personally think obviously  it's going the way of Warhammer.    I think it'll be smaller than LOTRO by July when all the 6-month-mistake subs have cleared.

Yes we know that, but the short investors who are looking at EA know the real numbers. It will sound better than it is but the accountants work on the hard math, and EA is liquidity short right now, making them an easy target for short sellers. SO overall, the EA people are trying to slowly release the bad news to have a controlled soft landing. Brown was already canned, Riticello has very few people left to throw under the bus. So this is why they put out lower quaterly earnng for march already, as well as estimates. Hoping bad news is better than terrible news.

I think people should stop criticizing the game at this point. It's getting sad. Yes, Bioware dun goofed and the game failed. But let's not kick a piece of garbage themepark WoW clone when it's down. Just leave it be and let it fade into obscurity.

So, when I wrote long, detailed posts about game issues...   No hysterics...  No crying...   Just reporting list after list after list of bugs and design defects that I reported during beta...

Yet, despite my not writing any emo-filled posts, the horde trolls known as BioWare fanboys routinely insulted me in every way possible about every documented bug in the game...   And, of course, the big-wigs lying to the public that it was 'just 5% with lousy compters'...     Lets just add corporate stupidy to trollish insult and injury...

So, you know what, after that crapfest of trolling, including by BioWare executives, I became determined to get my $60 out of this game...    And since the MMO I'm playing allows Alt-tab without crashing and has long-afk times...   I can really enjoy my new hobby - schadenfreunde...

Server populations are easily manipulated, you can't measure anything with them. Kinda like voting.
