I've been trying to find some videos with "open" maps. I'm not having any luck. While there are a ton of exploration videos, most of them seem to be similar to Age of Conan: beautiful zones with main path progression.

Some open, some with various paths, not that it matters. This isn't ArcheAge don't expect that kind of MMO. The maps are bigger than those in AoC but it is still kind of the same design but no zoning.

Well, after playing so many claustofobically small zone/instance fail MMOs no zoning & instancing is kinda big deal.

So just to confirm, is Tera open like LOTRO with no zones and instances of same zones or?

I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

I played KTera and some of the zones where quite massive like the zone around the first city you get to is huge. And certain questing zones can be a path leading to a smaller zone. But the desert is massive and outside the city is massive just depends on where you are (based on 1-17 play) I didn't even get that far.

I literally got lost in the city for my first hour, didn't have my mount yet was about level 10 and was excited because I couldn't find my way out. Eventually did tho.

With a client size of 30 or 40 GB or whatever it is I expect some more big ass zones in the later levels.

Actually the maps in this game are HUGE and nothing like AoC

I think people don't like to show those in videos simply because there's usually nothing exciting except for quest goals on those maps.

most BAMs are either in dungeons or specific spots.

here's a good example of how the game looks and feels like

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNrpJvm3bVg

it has this magical feel to it, but also a somewhat plasticky appearance which bugs me sometimes.

Most of the times, I'm amazed at the gorgeous views though.

The only other game that had me stare at the landscape so much was LOTRO

EDIT: forgot to mention. this game is actually so huge that not only did they include a gryphon like transportation, but the gryphons actually have to use a teleporter to transport closer to their target because it would take a ridiculously long time to get there by air. so yeah...huge seamsless world

I was wondering about this myself. I know that there is no instancing and that the world is pretty much seamless but what we need to know is if I can go from Point A to Point Z without needing to go to B, C, D, etc to get to Z? I understand that we won't be able to climb everything are go across everything but I don't what anything close to Thempark.

I think only the noob island has no connections, but other areas are connected and can be walked to/from. althoguh having tried that, I realized that it's not practicaly because of the distances...

I think I was miss understood. I don't want to be forced down this path to this point to another path like SWTOR had. I want to be able to explore zones and experience the world. If it is a quest hub game, yes it isn't for me.

You can walk through any area you want, it's been said 3 times in here that it's not a zoning game it's seamless. If you want to get to the end of the map you have to walk through it or teleport.

We are not talking about zoning we are talking about freedom in the zones/map areas. And that hasn't be confirmed. I have seen a lot of videos and it can go either way from what I want to what I really don't like.

There is a main storyline that kind of leads you down a path, but you're not required to follow it.

There are plenty of side quests to level without it

My second char got to a high enough level without ever doing any main quest, but it felt like of boring.

Although the main quest is kind of recommended because of the rewards and the locations you get to go to (first BAM for example is through the main quest).

I personally didn't like SWTOR, but I enjoy Tera on occasions simply because of the combat. My korean is almost non existent though, so I don't play it as much as I wish I could.

it also feels good to know you can beat anyone/anything if you have good understanding of your class. Also, the equipment Ive seen so far is not too overpowered, although I've heard that at higher levels you get some really advanced items that can make the game crazy easy. There is a video on youtube with a sorceror taking out BAMs in several hits, which sounds kind of ...boring.

The whole point is to enjoy, jump around, roll and hit stuff. it's definitely a lot more fun than standing and pressing buttons.

EDIT: in a sense, the quest progression is somewhat similar to Allods Online, where there is the main series of quests and they lead you to different zones

If you want to get to the end of the map you have to walk through it or teleport. Some maps may have different paths but it's most like I explained

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Composite map of all of the zones.

What the man asks is whether this is a corridor map game (Aion, SWTOR) or free roaming area like (WoW).

The answers are not particularly clear on this one.

Lol, maybe BAMs twenty levels lower, I am positive no sorceror or any class for that matter can take out a BAM of equal level in several hits.

Besides the starting zone which is not connected to the main area everything else is free roam, you can see people running around climbing over mountains or going wherever they want if you just youtube it.

It's would definately be like WoW in that regard.

Awesome, thanks for the replies, guys.

I really appreciate this freedom in the game, so it gets a big fat +1 from me :)
