this is my opinion of couse, but Rift seem like the closes MMO to the GW2 experience. its full of dynamic events. some can get on you nerves some times like the warewolf events (I hate those), and the firelord events (OMG I hate those more!!!) also the game has some awesome PvP dungeons. Just dont level up so fast using consumables. I would suggest taking your time leveling in Rift, since you can do most things before endgame anyway. Still has PvE dungeons like GW2 and every other themepark mmo has. also soon there will be a PvP focused major event added soon. pretty exciting really. 1.7 will make PvP even better at endgame since people will be on my equal grounds. I suggest level 30-49 PvP. its fun as ever especially on weekends. also there is great exploration in the games. many easter eggs to be found. well thats just my opinion,,,,,,,

Doesn't bode well for GW2 PVP then, seen as RIFT has the worst PVP I have ever played. (and I've played SWTOR, COH & LOTR) |

If Rift wasn't such a quest grind I could like it well enough. When I tried it out back in beta the events were way too repetitive and quickly became boring. And the only game I would pay a sub for is GW2, so I'll just keep playing nothing till it launches. |

Had a feeling this was another one of your "controversial" threads Exposed. It's like everyday you pick up a daily quest to encite the people on this forum, with these random threads.
As for topic. I've played Rift for 5 months. Maxed out all for Classes and raided a ton and I can assure everyone that GW2 will be nothing like the experience I had in Rift. Not even saying Rift is a bad game. Heck, I played it for 5 months. Just that the 2 games offer completely different experiences.
It all comes down to the design philosophy behind Guild Wars 2 and what the devs that are trying to achieve with the game. Not about how this one dynamic event feature is kinda like how rifts are in Rift. Also Rift is a raider's game with terrible PvP (it really is), which is nothing like Guild Wars 2. I could go on an on but I'll be wasting my time on this thread. Guess I'll wait for my misinformation to spew. |

Originally posted by ShakyMo Good thing the PvP in GW2 is nothing like the PvP in Rift then. I still remember how easy it was for me to get instagibed in Rift, by anyone in Rank 6-8 gear. At least in GW2, I won't die in 3 GCDs. |

Originally posted by Master10K I been playing Rift for 6 months,,, and I dont even touch Raid dungeons there. I am enjoying myself. the Leveling, PvP, and Events, alone keep me interesting.

Originally posted by MMOExposed Well good for you, but none of those are handled in the same way as in GW2 and playing Rift won't prepare anyone for GW2. For on thing there is no sub fee for GW2 and that's a major reason why a lot of people are even considering playing the game in the 1st place, so why play Rift when it has a sub. |

played Rift, didn't like it.
How do you even consider Rift to be the closest thing to GW2? That like saying a peice of cheese is the closest thing to pizza. All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

I sincerely hope dynamic events are more than glorified spawning points |

Originally posted by eyelolled it has lots of dynamic events and other activities in the world as well as instanced (excluding raid dungeons here) contents to play. its can be fun for somebody not into raiding. as I pointed out, I been playing Rift for 6months, and I dont raid. Yet I am having a blast. its a fun game for both non raiders, and raiders I guess. its not perfect, nor did I say it was a copy paste of GW2, I just suggested it as a similar experience.

The entire premise of this thread is complete nonsense. Part of the reason for the hype about GW2 is precisely that it does some major things very differently from the usual WoW-clones such as Rift. Another part is that it's a sequel to a great game--and a game that is very unlike Rift, at that. Take away those two things and few would care much about GW2. |

Rift was one of the most linear, horrid games I've ever played. GW2 better be a ton better than that although I'm not picking up that game either. I played GW1 for awhile trying to prepare for GW2 and realized it's not my thing either. Personally, I find the current state of MMOs a sad joke. Originally posted by MMOExposed Rifts are a continual stream of individual events, where as dynamic events are chains of events that are all tied together with progressive and potentially multiple outcomes. The real difference is in the combat mechanics though, and that is where I think you are so very far off. GW and GW2 have quite a different feel of play to the conventional combat mechanics. I would really like to play a game that has the same style of combat mechanics as GW, but Rift isn't it. All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

Originally posted by Zekiah Yet more misinformation. You know I thought of getting Guild Wars 1 for the same reason, but decided to do some research, only to find that's nothing like the MMORPG that will become Guild Wars 2. Heck, it's not even an MMORPG at all. So I did the smart thing and didn't get it, because I knew I wouldn't enjoy it and that it would leave a bad taste in my mouth. I guess you don't have the sense of foresight that I do. |

Originally posted by eyelolled ok, I wont suggest rift as the closes experience. I will just ask, which MMO is the closes experience to GW2 out right now?

Originally posted by MMOExposed There isn't a single MMO that will have all that GW2 will have, because GW2 have taken ideas from multiple different games, a lot of them not even MMOs. Guild Wars 1, DAoC, Ultima Online, Borderlands... the list goes on. Heck, just look at how they described the game's combat: "I like to say that GW2 controls like an MMO and has abilities like a MOBA (tools that you can use in diverse ways to adapt to changing situations), but its physical interactions are like an FPS (dodging projectiles, attacking from out of range, etc.). We are really happy with the way we were able to blend these three styles of play—and hopefully you will be too." |

I can only speak for myself but there is just something about Rifts that really turns me off and drains my enthusiasm to play. There have been two free weekends that I have came back to see the changes. the only problem is the first time I logged into my characters and never made it past allocating my talent points since the trees were re designed then and all my characters needed to have points allocated. I never made it past that since I felt no desire to even go outside of the town I logged out of.
Then this weekend rolled around and I decided to pop in and get all of my characters their presents in the mail. After looking my characters over I lost all interest in leaving the zone. I am not sure if my initial month left a really bad taste in my mouth or what, but that's twice I have come back for free time only to lose interest before I even began and that has never happened to me before. Hell, most can agree that FFXIV is a disaster and I popped back in to see some changes and got more out of that game after a long hiatus than I can muster out of Rift and I really don't know why.
So I think I would have to strongly disagree with the OP's opinion on trying the game much less playing it till GW2 comes out. The game doesn't satisfy any or my MMO itches that I have been experienceing since dropping them for a long break. Even after starving myself of a MMO, I can't force myself to play one that is really not worth the box price let alone the rehashed $15 sub model that was adopted by Trion. Unfulfilling is the nicest word I can think of to describe Rift.
