But we decided to cancel our subs and move on. |

I hope that they're not planning to make EQ Next console based. Seems SOE is almost hell bent on shifting the MMO genre away from PCs :(

Good interview, although I was unaware of how much a Homer he is for EQ2. "There is no comparison" umm... I could make like 10 comparisons. I like his comments on the "casino" style of entertaining, makes logical sense and its good because it focuses more on the fun than anything.
EQNext has me excited still, I was hoping for an entirely different direction and it looks like that is exactly what they are doing... how different can it really be? I guess we will have to wait and find out. "They essentially want to say 'Correlation proves Causation' when it's just not true." - Sovrath |

"The next installment of the EQ franchise is very much still in a black box. We’re not talking about it publicly. But I can say this…it’s not your standard MMO. We’re not adhering to any of the ordinary conventions. We are making a game that needs to be made, that definitely is “massive” and truly “multiplayer” (not trumped up single-player content), but we’re not making a game that you expect. As such, it should stand alone nicely and not be a direct competitor to EQII. Of course, if it’s as good as we intend it to be, it might be a competitor anyway, but not because it’s specifically targeting EQII’s type of gameplay."
I loved SWG and EQ2 and spent way more time in them by far than in ANY other MMO. But this quote just crushs my hope. How can it be unlike any other MMO and be good? That just sounds impossible and like some mix of crap just to stand out! *sigh* Just make a classic Everquest and call it EQ3, will ya!? :( "Things weren't better in the past. If they just sucked it up and made all races and classes free then EQ2 would probably BOOM with popularity. Refund the people who already bought them with store points and SOE don't lose anything, instead they will probably gain more people willing to consider spending on the finer things in the game.. Such an easy solution. |

Haha zero exodus. What are they smoking? Most guilds are merging or dissolving because they hadnt introduced any new content in over 8 months. They released a novelty pack and charged full expansion price for it, with zero content. I logged in as F2P on my two old servers and they are both ghost towns. |

12.1.25 1. the f2p revenue model and inability to access characters used as a subscriber... having degraded the EQ2 account to, i think they term it silver, one has to pay $ to again enable access to content still reserved to monthly subscribers. f2p does not mean EVERYTHING is now free and available. i.e. always read the fine print. Incentive to maintain p2p (Pay To Play). Other games do similar proceedures (e.g. LotRO one has to again buy access to quest in higher level areas one had free access to as a subscriber. Or again cash purchase rights to access/create characters in certain classes.) 2. With China, Korea, Vietnam and India emerging as THE cash shop market, soon to eclipse the west for profitability (think Nexxon pulled in about us$800 million from them last year) more and more western game are having to goto ftp to compete.

Cannot say for 100% but from what I've read EQ Next is suppose to be PS3 and PC. If they do I really hope PS3 and PC users can play together. Be nice to play on my PC and then later jump on my PS3 and keep playing. |

I like the game, I find it fun with plenty of content. Remember you do get what you pay for, as a rule I view F2P as a demo only. I am curious to see what is next. I have characters on Guk, Permafrost and of course Freeport. I have always found someone to group with if needed.

Originally posted by SunYam Eeek, they really said to make it for PS3 too? PS3 is such a FAILED system, and console-ability reeks like dumped down DCU gaming... My opinion is that this is a great game. You spend as little or as much as you want, just like any other F2P. If you buy triple station cash, it's a lot cheaper than most any other game out there than at least the ones I have tried. It's a whopping $3 at triple station cash to unlock a race or class and you are not going to play them all. Everyone keeps screaming it's buggy, but the only time I have found it crashes is occasionly zoning. Every game is buggy, and this is no more than for instance WOW where I can take you to certain zones and show you the bugs...why hasn't WOW fixed them? |

So they think one of the most hated F2P models that must have caused endless ammounts of their "300% increase" to be people that played for 1 to 7 days before stopping in pure disgust is a "great idea"....? Makes you shudder at what fresh hell they could come up with for Next...

Revy, just an aside--you can add to your sig (Witchhunter from WAR). In fact, the dual-pistol thing's older than that, but the big boom in games followed on the heels of the popularity of the WH Manga. Ignore the nattering of beldames, enjoy whatever you like. |

The mounts have always had stats on them, just like the in game mounts. they arent superior, nor are they inferior. The cash shop has been around for a few years now and it hasnt headed down towards pay 2 win, you just assume it will. |

Name one MMO company where this isnt the case |

Also name another MMO where you can get a one year subscription for 30 bucks?
Occasionally SoE runs triple station cash days. Walmart sells cards for 2000 SC for 15 bucks. Tripled thats 6,000 for 15 bucks. A one year subscription is 11,998 Station cash |
