There's another side to the coin too.

Before the last patch I had been unable to join warfronts since I kept getting kicked to the login screen.

This had the effect that I was completing my class quests, along with a lot of side quests, but when I got to the next planet I was always 2 or 3 levels too low, making it difficult to complete many quests until I'd levelled some.

It seems you have to play this game to the book, where only the 'average' player actually experiences the game as it was meant.

Game of the year? Meh... Fail of the year? Maybe!

Let me explain, my wife and i have stoped doing any quest content other than the main story quest becasue PVP warzones, a few space combat dailys and flashpoints casued us to quickly out lvl all of our quest content.

However this had another unintended consequnce that really is a negitive effect on the game for us,

With SWTOR being very single player oriented to begin with the end result of all of us (My Wife our friends and I.) doing only our story quest is that we NEVER quest toogeeather anymore, and we enjoy doing everthing toogeather in most MMO's.

Say what you will but this is a serious issue for people like us becasue we want to play toogeather and atm were only doing pvp and an occasional flashpoint toogether.

While this isnt enough to make me unsub i do belive what we like about MMO is that they bring us toogeather and this mechanic inhibits that..

All personal storylines can be shared and i have no idea how a game which offers a lot of content can be a bad thing. Also like i said earlier side quests can be skipped and one can easily make choices as to what content to do and how much to do in order to get to appropriate levels.

It surprises me that people would complain that there is so much to do that i am outlevelign content. maybe you guys should have played AOC at release where people were grinding mobs like gold farmers in order to level up.

Also all fanboys have a point.. a lot of content is a good thing. if you are outleveling content skip quests, a lot of them so that you don't outlevel your storyline.

I swear, you guys are grasping at straws looking for stuff to complain about.

First rule of being a GW2 fan is to make sure that you keep the complaints coming for other MMOS that you are playing in order to make GW2 look good in comparison. Even though game is far from release.

If there is too much content people complain and if there is little content people still complain. irony is that it is so easy to skip quests and just do a little bit on the side like PVP, FP, bonus quests and just keep moving on with personal storyline. But like i said have to keep the negativity coming..it is very important.

Not that easy. You need to do the quests for the marks you get which allow you to update your moddable weapons/armor and there is also the affection with your companion and your own dark/light points to consider(not to mention plain money). Its not really like you can do whatever and still progress normally. Not to mention that many quest are in truth questchains, sometimes even rather long ones which you simply won't know on your first playthrough so skipping one mission can easily become skipping a bunch of missions. And no, buying stuff on the GTN is not the solution, people on my server hardly list stuff that can be bought with marks since they are so easy to aquire.

And its not grasping at straws if it truly bothers people, i want to pvp however much i feel like without having to consider how it affects my leveling experience, same for spacecombat and FPs. I literally stopped playing today because i felt like doing something besides questing but felt im already ahead as much as i can take. Also i thought the story was the main point of this game? Having to skip large parts of it is rather like pissing all over that argument, if i just want to see the CS i can do that on YT tyvm.

Just give me an option to stop earning XP, it has been done before and its not rocket science. I want to enjoy the game and the story and not rush to 50 like its some kind of race. And no, this isn't a big issue by any stretch, but its annoying and i don't like being annoyed.

Edit: This is not an sign of how much content there is in this game, the stuff that makes you overlevel is repeatable content like PvP warzones, instances, rested XP, spacecombat, dailies for marks etc. All themepark games these days have them, even those heavily criticized for lack of content. Counting a pvp warfront as content is ... meh i don't know, its more an activity.

Just so boring.....

I leveled up on PVP because it's the only thing that seems dynamic about the game.

Even the Flashpoints are boring because you hear the same bullshit Voice overs each time that you don't want to repeat them.

I wonder what game you're looking forward to, because every game with any objective or quest will have you doing the same thing.

<sigh>

It wouldn't be a problem if the story was OPTIONAL.  If it was optional, then you could just play through the game never doing it, and then play through again but do it to get a different experience.  But really, the story is the MAIN DRAW OF THE GAME.  If you are going to play SWTOR and skip the story, then you probably shouldn't be playing SWTOR.

The problem is that if you spend time doing some optional stuff, you can outlevel the mainline stuff and leave it in the dust.  And then doing it becomes kind of boring because everything is grey to you.

A lot of content is a great thing.  No one is arguing about that, so please don't try to make the argument about that.

The argument is essentially that it feels like the game tries to force you to play a specific way.  If you just want to chill and do warzones for a while, then you have the consequence of having to do a bunch of grey story quests until they "catch up" with your level.

On the other hand, if you want to see the story as quick as you can, you are out of luck too because you will be underlevel and you need to do some "side content" to get to the appropriate level.

The argument is not that there is "too much content" the argument is that players don't really have the freedom to experience the content in the order they wish without some kind of inconvenience.

For example, when I played, I did a lot of PvP at level 11 and got to like level 18 just through PvP and one or two flashpoints.  Then when I went back to do my story quests, I had to just slog through the story quests from level 11 all the way to my current level...it was drudgery...terribly boring.

It makes the whole game feel like you have to do things in a specific order, and if you don't, you will be punished.  I really wish that the story quests scaled for you somehow...it's just so boring to be forced to do grey quests.  And if I feel like doing PvP or flashpoints for a few hours, I want to be able to do them without being penalized for it.

What do you guys think?

It is a standard MMO thing that gets even worse in a story driven game like TOR.

However is there no easy fix for it. You could have less quests than needed to level up, skip XP and only let people level up once they did a certain quest or remove levels altogether.

The last is really the only good solution but that demands new mechanics and I don't think changing that now would be a great idea, bad enough one SW game gets NGEd.

There also the possibility of making quests scale with level but that kinda works best in a CORPG. In Tor you would more or less be forced to have all mobs scaling to the same level as the player it fights. It would be a lot easier to remove level altogether instead.

You probably must learn to live with it.

Honestly something that could make going back to other planets and what is level scaling IMO.

Not the story so much as the quests you need to accomplish to fulfill the story.  Watching a cutscene is just as enjoyable whether the MOBS you killed were grey, orange, or purple.

But the point is that you have to normally kill a bunch of MOBs to GET to that cutscene.  Killing a bunch of grey MOBs isn't very fun.

Also...when you normally do a story quest, you have a ton of side quests around the area as well so it lessens your time spent "walking" compared to your time spent "fighting."  But when you ONLY have to do your story quest, there is no point in doing all those side quests as well.  When you only do your story quest, you spend more time walking.  Walking is pretty boring, fighting is more exciting.

the easiest solution to this is to give the option they had way back in daoc.  just an option to turn off xp gains.  you could turn off xp , do all your side quests, flashpoints, pvp, space combat, etc.  then turn it back on for story quests.  since there are only 2 pvp brackets it really doesn't give the problem of people staying at a certain level and twinking their chars.  personally I do a ton of pvp/flashpoints/space combat/etc.   but I don't feel bored doing my class quests (even ones that are grey to me).

One thing that really irritated me about SWTOR was the fact that you basically have to go through all your story quests to experience the game, but these quests are all for a specific level.  This means that if you do too many "side" activities, you can outlevel and trivialize your story quests...making them tedious and boring.

What do you guys think?

i think i have seen that in every mmo... the only way to fix that so far has a name, GW2 with the scaled lvl. That could have been a great feature for swtor although i never had that issue myself on swtor. I always try to outlevel my quests but end up underlevel so they are always hard for me and my companion. and i Love that.

How do i alwasy underlevel my quests? well, im not fond of bonus quests so i skip that grind most of the time, i rarely (very rarely) do instanced pvp and just a couple of flashpoints if i want some good exp and gear to break the cycle (gears from quest rewards are perfect for me when it comes to the difficulty of the leveling process.... i rarely die but i have to rest a lot so i have fun

This is why I curently have taken a few days off of playing SWTOR.  I agree with the OP regarding the linear and fairly constricting method of leveling.  I love the space combat but I stopped doing it so that this issue doesn't get worse.

I don't have a viable solution to fix it but I also am not paid to have one.

It's gotten to the point where some MMOs have been reduced to little more than success dispensers. Don't think. Don't challenge yourself. Do as little as possible... but still be rewarded for it. Yeah.. *that's* fun.

Personally, I think they should have unlocked story quests altogether...  made them separate, without a level requirement, and have them scale to your level.

I think this would have been awsome and would of required some actual outside the box thinking...

This would be an issue if doing your class story quest wouldn't be really fast.  If you outlevel your story quests, you can catch up in a matter of an hour or 2.   Just do the quest without the bonus and without doing any of the side quest.  You'll be caught up in no time.

Personally, I like that you can outlevel content.  I skipped a whole couple of planets on my first run through, Belsavis and another one I forgot which one (skipped the entire planet, except the story quest of course).  Anyways, the point is that on an alt, I'll definitely do these planets for a whole new experience.  I also skipped many of the bonus series.  I definitely do those that I missed.

Indeed.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

I had the opposite issue. My story led me to Quesh when I was only lvl 32. I then discovered, after eating a bit of dirt a few times, that the planet started at 36.

I leveled up on PVP because it's the only thing that seems dynamic about the game.

Even the Flashpoints are boring because you hear the same bullshit Voice overs each time that you don't want to repeat them.

I wonder what game you're looking forward to, because every game with any objective or quest will have you doing the same thing.

have to agree although I wolud like more variety in quests.. such as more escort types and possibly some puzzle based ones and such.. there's a little more devs can do than just go here and click on glowing thing and return or go here kill this and  return
