Sounds like what Warhammer mmorpg should have been like... :( The paranoia, the fear of the mutant, the isolation... Btw interesting idea that perma-death discourages griefing... we'll see how it pans out. |

If they put in those damn bears that come out of nowhere (they really can come running from out of screen vision), outrun and kill you without you having a chance to actually get away or defend, I am pretty sure I will not play it then. |

Wait what? When was free too high of an entry barrier? "Bottles the mind" Huh?
For the graphics, people need to understand almost all screen shots are coming out of the Alpha testing. The dev has stated numerous times in other interviews that most of the graphics are place holders and better things will be released down the line. They are mainly working on core mechanics and things of that nature.
As for the game itself, it sounds like what I have been waiting on for some time. I caught wind of it from an article on massively a year or so ago and have been keeping tabs. Everything I have seen gets me more excited for its soon approaching release.
I think people are missing the point of this game. It isn't to be a "raiding" or PvP game. It is a game that gives you a world in which you can interact with, change, and do as you please. It has monsters and explorable areas, but it doesn't hold your hand saying "You are lvl 10, go kill x monster and collect x items". It allows YOU to decide what direction you want to take your game in. Want to be the hermit that lives out in the middle of the woods and sodomizes sheep? So be it, go make your house in the middle of no where and be self sufficient. Want to band together with like minded individuals and work towards creating and establishing a working town or government hierarchy? So be it. Want to be a witch and terrorize the countryside? Well, you are welcome to do that, heck start a coven with other witches in the middle of the woods, but if you get caught there are consequences. No more mamby pamby death penalty that lasts for 5 minutes. You die, you do not pass go, you do not collect 200$. No, you start over. Players extract revenge, players enforce their laws, not the game. Love it. |

Sounds like it might be an interesting title, despite the archaic cheap looking isometric look. Of course we are all weary of small teams out of Sweden making supposedly master level open world mmo's heh. Reminds me of xsyon actually ---- |

Current MMO dev teams = Keystone cops.A pure comedy of errors, sadly its not as intentional. |

... as usual, the devs are vastly underestimating the griefers, and as usual they will have their asses bitten off for doing so......... |

True. Although it would open another dimension if they allow some ideas from the modding community like Minecraft did. Not sure if this is comparable. |

Possibly. One difference between this an other games is that any random stranger could come along, pick that clue up and hunt down the griefer. I've read other articles on the game and it definitely allows for bounties on players and possibly some sort of reputation system. A relatively small, organized group could make a living hunting down griefers. With perma-death this could be an effective deterrent. You can't just roll another character to grief with, you'd have to roll another character and learn the skill necessary to kill someone with. Join the League For Gamers. |

"Optimistically slated for a Summer release, let's pray for witchcraft and F2P Systems." Wtf is F2P an acronym for something other than free to play? Cuz fuck that! |

You have ranger skills that let you track scent from criminal acts like stealing and merdering. You can track the guy back, so you can deal with that in the maner you want, diplomatic or not. If the guy stay offline and the crime is great enough like murder you can summon him and get your revange. So there is no way to escape your crime. You still can have a community that protect you well enough though, they are few murderers and stealer communities, they are also raiding ones (on other willage right, not like Wow raids lol). The scent stay longer the bigger the crime a merder stay like a week, thelf just few days. |

All I can ask of them is polish, polish, polish! Niche games like this cannot afford to have bumpy starts. Nail all the bugs you can, even delaying the game if you must, and for goodness sake, add some lighting, shadows, and bump mapping!
Looking forward to giving this a try. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss |

I have to research more on the game. I hope it can pull off what is promises. Would love to play this game. My only worry is I wanted Xsyon to be a success and they failed to deliver what they promised in a game. |

Wow, finally a game picks up alias' and an investigation system. If I didn't know better, I'd say developers *are* reading the dev corner here. We've been discussing this kind of stuff for over a year by now. Writer / Musician / Game Designer Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4 |

I can already see a fail for this game, only a small number of people are willing to play permanet death games where they can lose everything they worked on for months and lose real money on items they buy (if not a F2P game they will have to have atleast an item shop to keep the game running) from a zerg guild that i guarantee you will be on a game like this, lots of people kill others just for the sake of making them peoples gaming unfun and permanet death won't stop those guilds or people. |

It's very true, because if it's anything like HnH, they should trust their players to ruin it for all newcomers. The only thing they could do to sate "normal" people is dedicate either a landmass, or entire serverset, to consensul PvP only. Hate to say it, but it's true because of how the game is;
So, to appeal to "normal" people, they would need that map or, preferably a landmass near the spawn point which disallows settlements, but would allow personal claim-space at a heightened cost, and you're not allowed to PvP within. That way noobs can actually play the game like it was Animal Crossing, so long as they don't go too far into the woods. The starting areas will be a mess though, and jagoffs will do everything in their power to fence it all off, preventing people from escaping the place (as things wouldn't likely be breakable by others, non-grief and all that). All in all, a game like this takes a lot of forethought, and from looking at HnH, I'm not all that sure they even know their own game all that well. Well, Haven & Hearth had all that stuff for a long time. How come nobody mentioned it in those discussions -.- Salem is very similar to Haven & Hearth in general. Also, it's free. Hype train -> Reality |
