You get that problem when u design games with raiding-centered gear-grinding endgame...

Though something we won't hear, are the thousands that usually threathen the devs saying; "If this hasn't been done by the 1st month then I'm unsubbing."

The Buy 2 Play model, how I love it. XD

Large amount of excitment from the folks around here for a beta...lol. The problem with all the hype, is that a game can never live up to it. There are a lot of people around here that acting like this game will save them from the horribleness the genre has become. Funny thing is... when I was playing Shadowbane years ago, the EXACT same thing happened with GW1 came out...lol. The game was popular no doubt, however, not the savior that everyone from Shadowbane was hoping for. I wish GW2 success, although, it's not sounding like my cup of tea.

Still no release date announced but it sounds like everyone is thinking August. That gives TOR a lot of time to fix some stuff and it gives time for MoP and FFXIV version 2.0 to hit. Should be a pretty good second half of the year!

[...] No AAA MMO has released in July-Aug, so September seems the likeliest release date for GW2.

I expect TSW and TERA to be released first, namely in April/May.

Well ArenaNet have been all about defying existing conventions, so a May/June release is actually possible. Especially if the Open Beta takes place around April.

Funny thing is that only the naysayers like yourself aproclaim that GW2 will be the Messiah of the MMORPG genre. Whereas people on the various Guild Wars 2 forums, who are hyped about the game, are pretty level-headed. We follow the game closely, so we know what to expect, because the devs tells are everything. Only those that have loafty expectations are the ones that won't have their expectations met. But the vast majority of GW2 fans following the game won't be.

Ya, not even close. SWTOR, after the free month are still at heavy, most servers and some standard. I haven t seen 1 light server, unless it s 1 am. That said, GW2 is going to be amazing, but will effect SWTOR little IMO. Most people I know and have talked to will play both or GW2 and another MMO.

GW2 will be a great game, no doubt, but I still see a million threads in the future of, I m max now what. It s ineviatable with any MMO nowadays.

Well server statuses don't really show the actual population just what SWTOR decided was the server limit.  The question is, how much interaction do you see while you're playing on the servers, how many times do you play non-huttball games, and how long is the wait to get into 4-man heroics.

Isn't that what SWTOR has now for their endgame.  It's hard to say what will happen with GW2, there's still a lot of info that hasn't been released.

But we shall see at release I guess.

Refraining from excitement until I see Open Beta Stress Test - I believe that was the final stage last time. Game released about a week after that. XD *excitment oozing out*

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Yes defying everything but time.  They said closed betas for 2011 and started them in December.  I don't really see them releasing the game within a month or two of large open beta testing (we assume large, we don't really know how big or at what level they will increase over time). I say not even September, these guys are going to try and get this game as "polished" as Rift *he said choking on his words*.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to stress out the WvWvW, see if we really can have 100sVs100Vs100s battles without the game crippling to a halt (like SW:TOR's Ilum). However at least we know that the game could handle large crowds, before it was optimized.

We shouldn't compare ANet's beta timelines between GW and GW2.  For one, they were a new and smaller company when they were launching GW.  They've also said numerous times in the last couple years that the open beta for GW2 would be short and close to release because they want the game essentially complete and ready when players get their first real test of it.  When he says "we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events " in March and April I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a launch in June or July.

I specifficaly stated that I wish the game sucess, but it's not my cup of tea. I wouldn't call me a "naysayer". I didn't say one word bad about it. Of course, If I'm not all about it, I'm called a "naysayer". Thanks,

Also, as for the highlighted red..... thats who I'm talking about. If you don't have ridiculously high expectations and don't think the game is going to be the greatest thing ever made.. I'm not talking to you...lol. I'm talking to the ones with the loafty expectations, and there are a lot of them. It's not just GW2, there are folks who overhype every game and end up angry. Just look at TOR.

I think as Gw2 followers the information we have available are about the core mechanics of the game rather than the extra nice features. New MMORPGs tend to advertise game features like 'MASSIVE PVP' or 'Over 1000 mounts' or use pre-rendered videos to promote themselves. Most of these features are likely 'endgame' features and things you're never going to see until max lvl or until a ton of grinding has happened.

I'm not saying that Gw avoids doing these things but they also include information about the very meat of the game. Not too many games boast about 'flat lvling curve' or the ways they have gone about helping players play together. Most of the mechanics we know about are prominent features of the game that we will be experiencing throughout the world and not just specific parts of it.

If we took a closer look at previous buildups to release we may be able to spot the absence of information between the lines. I'm sure GW1 didn't talk about it's relatively simple quest system pre-release, all the hype was about the ccg skill system and missions/storyline. I knew what to expect going into GW1 and wasn't disappointed.

Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play?

Yeah I understand what you mean, however ArenaNet are really not like any other MMO dev out there. In the way that all the features that are at the forefront of the PR (Personal Story, Dynamic Events, Active Combat & Competitive PvP), they have made an effort to show them to the general public and say, "Here are these features we've been boasting. They are in the game and ready for you to try them out." Pretty much the only major feature that hasn't been tried is the WvWvW, so I guess that is the only area, where even people like me following the game, can be disappointed.

Also ArenaNet don't use pre-rendered cutscenes like Blizzard  and them, so they haven't been trying to deceive us yet. :P

Yes we should.  We really should.  Though the quote seems to be gone from the GW2 wiki now, they said, prior to changes on the wiki in December, that the time between open beta announcement and release would be much quicker than that of GW1's.  I'm not sure how they know this in advance, but that's what they said.  Maybe they removed it because it sounded too "certain" for their traditional "when it's ready" track record.
