DAOC is a nice foundation for RvR but it hasnt aged well and with the lack of support from EA/BW its just became stale for me.i do miss it though and if an origin server ever did see the light id sign up right away. |

Originally posted by vladww True enough, but with their subs so low, I don't think they had much choice. When I went back, I flipped between six different characters, and still made lvl 40 within a blink of an eye with a couple of them. I don't have a problem with quick leveling per se, but I just don't like it when games ignore the journey in favor of the destination, and it seems DAoC went that direction somewhat. The community, however, is still top notch imo. I would have more fun playing the crappiest MMO in existence with players from DAoC than the best MMO with - and I hate to stay on this bandwagon of hate- the WoW crowd. |

Well I've gone back and I'm really enjoying it. It was a sizable break from the game but it's incredible how it all comes rushing back. I still haven't got the hang of everything though, there's been a fair amount of changes since I last played but I'm having fun scooting about on Midgard with my Skald or running about with a necro on alb (until I decide what I want to play!) Not a lot of chatter in-game though, either people are using guild chat mostly or I'm missing out but region and even the started guild are dead on both realms, I doubt Hib would be any different. Anyone have recommended guilds that take in casual players? I'd never class myself as a pro but I enjoy playing both PVE/RVR :P |

I actually went back recently and tried it out but I just couldn't get over the aged UI. It's too bad there's not a DAOC 2 planned. "Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. Shame about the UI, even with a customised one (I'm using Ghost) it's old looking although it's functional. Little touches would make all the difference though, mouse over showing detail on weapons etc. |

I didnt had the luck to play Daoc from the launch we stucked with some friends with wow for around 5 years O(i quitted wow 1 year ago). Around then i got a daoc trial so i can see for my self what doac is about and since ive read in here all praying daoc pvp as best pvp around the mmo scene had to look for myself. 1st of all i must admit i loved the huged variety of classes. One of the few mmo's around that i can play barbarian style toons. I did tutorial and did a few quests at start to see how's combat system which for me is one of the most critical part in evry mmorpg. Hmm after few battles with some mobs i quitted. It wasnt the bit crappy grafix (imagine im playing morrorwind right now instead of skyrim till some overhaul arrives.Never was a grafix whore. It was though the very clunky animations and usual wow/eq/l2 combat system that dissapointed me mostly. And im asking .After all these years the devs of the game didnt launched any updates to improve animations or they did and i didnt saw it because of the trial i download? Were there any options in the graficks that i didnt setted up correctly maybe? Dont know maybe i was too hasty to judge after playing it only 40 minutes to judge? I keep reading posts about how's daoc is the best pvp around still in the mmo scene. Anyone can comment direct me? |

The core of DAOC is awesome, however, the character feedback, UI, lack of modern UI feedback from enemies while fighting, cast bar, etc. make this game impossible for me to play. Hence, if they ever make a DAOC 2 and hopefully keep the "core" of the original game intact then I'll be all over it. Until then, this along with similar older games with the same issue will just fade into history. |

Originally posted by Plasmicredx I loved the level 50 armor quests. They were so cool! Everyone would pitch in and everything ran like a well-oiled machine! I remember the first thing my level 50 friar did was kill one of those darned trees solo! LOL I was never into RvR though (too unpredictable and friars were very squishy despite the damage they could do). TOA was okay except that DAOC insisted on large group scenarios, which many, many players warned them against during testing. It still may have worked if TOA items didn't affect RvR, but they did. Can you say revolt? DAOC was one of the best PvE games ever. They did make the leveling a bit too easy though. I've occasionally visited the game and made it to the mid 30's within a few hours. I'm tempted to go back sometimes, but I've really burned out on online RPGs and I know I would just end up playing for a few days and canceling within a month. |

Originally posted by SpikeX The question I have is, is it only for PVP that you can get the buffs or can you get them for PVE as well? I remember playing DaoC where I was only happy if our country held the physical relics and if we lost both I hardly ever played because it was literally the difference between the battles just barely not being able to be won vs the battles going your way consistantly.

The buffs stay with you, even when you leave the bg's. I like it! Playing: STO, MWO |

Originally posted by SpikeX Actually, I liked PvE and RvR equally. I actually loved spending hours camping mobs or dungeon crawling with a group. WAY better than solo grinding quests in modern MMORPGs. I even liked TOA, minus the underwater swimming part and the long boss respawns, only to be ganked from you by someone else. What I hated about DAoC was buffbots, which is why I voted for Classic servers when they ran the poll. By then, it was too late, I already tried SWG out and loved it. |
