Why is this game so unknown?

Noboddy talks about it, noboddy visits these forums, seems like noboddy even cares.

For an innovative game that releases in 2012, there is not very much to gon on....

I think maybe the developers didn't study the actual potential for a player base according to readers of Tad's books. I personally picked up one of his books at one time just because of the cover. I tried to get into it. Just wasn't my thing. I think this game has great potential, but concerning what demographic are they drawing off of? 

Is this a pitch to older players maybe college group, or is it supposed to be pointed at any younger readers that might have thought to read some of his work? I feel they didn't study too much on who would play a game like this. I figure it will find a niche community among your more oddball player base as many small games have or big games that reached a little farther than they should have. 

On the same note it could be that this game just doesn't get any attention here because many of your mmorpg fans here are not interested in something truly outside their normal concept of smash, shoot, fly, win, loot, power mentality. You might find a very active community some where else though. Just because this spot is numb to this game doesn't mean there isn't a booming activity for it some where else. I mean they do have a 1,067 likes on facebook currently. I only know that because on their official site they have it listed. 

On a very personal view: The concept is exagerated much like many other MMOs right now and I'm a little tired of seeing the whole Alice in twisted Wonderland mind rape that everyone seems to be going for visually, but I'm more a gritty harsh adventure kind of person with a little dash of pixie dust that usually gets caught in my mouth and I spit it in the eye of the corpse of some evil thing that tried to climb up my rusty armored leg. 

Have you seen their trailer for this game? Eh, there again not my thing, but it's a good trailer for that sort of showing off their graphic stuff.

Anyway just dropped in to throw my piece of worthless not wordless cents on this silent beast among the many. See yah. 

i saw a trailer showing stuff off. Concept sounds decent and innovative but not sure how it'll play out so no point hyping unless its actually showing us some more of how the actual game works.

This game definitely needs more airing to get it on the radar.  just hoping the f2p model isnt going to be pay to win like so many other f2p games.

I have no idea what it even is after seeing that dubstep trailer visting their site and watching some older trailer, I got some sort of second life with upgraded graphics and a game attached to it vibe.

Im quite excited about the game just because i dont know what it is, that is a good thing according to me. )

Looks cool, but I have zero faith the company will pull this off.

This game shot up on the hype chart, like outta nowhere.

1.) I doubt even 1% of this forums users ever read the books ( I don't even think 20% of this forums users have ever read ANY book after they got out of school ).

2.) Flashy trailers are nice, but people have been burned too many times and that's by "major" developers, getting overly excited about a newb dev isn't really in fashion any more.

3.) Gamigo has never had the best of reputations as a publisher, the recent hacks that accessed users acconuts didn't help to make it any better.

4.) It's F2P. That's the easiest way to make people think you have no faith in your own game right from the start.

they haven't even enter the production state

they just released on massively that they are planning to release third quater of this year, i think its a little farther along than you think?

I wouldn't be so sure about that. it's March, there's still 9 and a half months in the year left, and judging by their track record for launching titles I'd say a Q3/Q4 release is probable. They have already partially started Alpha testing and plan to move to closed beta within the next few months. I predict a closed beta test in may, followed by open beta near or slightly after E3 to gain more hype, with launch a month or so after that. 

That's all predictions and in no way reflects any sort of official timeline, but judging from the footage from press releases, the next-g video that was recently uploaded, the game looks very polished already. I think now it's simply building upon features and tuning/perfecting game mechanics.

I'd much prefer games don't tell you anything until they were close to launch, maybe 6 months.

If it takes too long from their excitement inducing announcment until their launch then most people lose interest.  Or at the very least they lose some of the excitement they had going for it.

Most games usually don't tell you when they're releasing until about a month from their release. Look at Blizzard games. Announcements usually are about a month from the day they release.

It's kind of funny though considering another game that I run a fansite for, Black Prophecy, which is also a gamigo game decided it would be a good idea to give a 1 day notice before they released the game. That too me is too short. Most games, however, will give you a rough estimate usually in quarters like we were given with otherland: Q3 and Q4. That to me is acceptable but with a month announcement before launch when the time comes.

I read the Memory, Sorry, and Thorn series back when I was in the Navy (got out in 1997...), really enjoyed the books.  I have to admit, I had no idea there was an MMO in the works based on Tad Williams' books.  Never read anything after that first series, so I'm not even sure if they're based in the same setting, but it's something I'll look into. 

The books are so incredibly detailed and the story complex, I don't know how this can be pulled off without some big backing.

It will most likely be called Otherland and have a few names thrown in here and there but take a lot of liberties.

Anyone who has read the books will be thinking the same thing. Sure would like a pleasent surprise  though.
