So far the set up for WvWvW is basically 3 servers put against each other in a triangle style map with objectives. That much we know. But the details about the nuances and how it will work specifically are not out yet (or at least i have not been able to read anything about it).
My main question is how server "A" will be able to differentiate enemy server "B" from enemy server "C". The only example I can use is DAOC since that’s the only 3 realm pvp game I can think of.
In Daoc you knew you were fighting against Midgard because you are against a troll. You knew you were fighting against Hiberina because you just killed an Elf. In W v W, no matter which server you are fighitng against the races are the same, so how are you supposed to tell the two enemy realms apart? I know that any answer to this question will have to be speculation, unless someone has more insider information about it.
But even if anyone has any speculation about how this will work I would love to hear some ideas.
So I pose the question :
--How will you know which one of the two realms you are currently fighting against? Color coded names? Different banners or emblams?--
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, Linear Story, Cut-Scenes...

Real helpful post there. "Wade through it yourself." Do you post that as an answer to everything? His question isn't even addressed in that thread.
One speculation is that your armor will be temporarily dyed to match your team. Enemy names will certainly be in red, although this doesn't allow you to differentiate between each enemy team. Another possibility is that enemies will look different. Maybe your allies look normal, but enemies appear with special armor. In any case, we won't know until they tell us, which we think they may do soon. I'm pretty sure, just how the highlight color is blue and red for two team structured PvP, they'll assign another color to the third faction you're fighting. So,you might have your own color for friendly, which is green. And then the two other servers are red or blue. Since there's no cross-server communication, you wouldn't need to make a solidarity color across all factions. You'd just need to be able to differentiate friend from foe. I'm not quite sure though. That's how I've just been assuming it'd work.

not sure if there's name tags in pvp. |

It really does not have to be that complicated, it will most likely be just 3 different name tag colors along with the possibility of temporarily dyed armour to match ones server color. |

whatever it is, it will be simple and effective and there will be all sorts of people that will complain. All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick. |

Server 1 Player: "I fight for Red superiority!" Server 2 Player: "I fight for Blue superiority!" Server 3 Player: "And I fight for Yellow superiority!" All 3 players at once: "We fight each other because.. well... I don't really like his color!" |

Here's a novel idea. Stop the press. Keep your normal coloring, but the enemies are displayed dyed red and blue. Each server sees their own color as transparent (so there is no dye over it) while there other guys are the evil reds and blues. There is no need for three colors. And this would keep your side looking more "homey" and normal, unlike those hyper-dimensional invaders from beyond.

None of the above i would assume, there will be no colours involved. The colours are for structured pvp, you load into pvp with a template character and go from there. WvW is your actual character with his or her own pve gear. how does Wow do it? How does Swtor do it? surely they will simply be targetable, have red nameplates or glow to show they're aggressive. There is nothing special in other games to separate players in a chaotic world pvp scenario so why would Gw2? |

I think it'll all be done in black and white and you won't be able to differentiate enemies from allies. You'll have to guess when you attack someone and you could possibly pwn your own team. I'm pretty sure I'm right and it seems like the most logical way to do it. /facepalm
I'm sure ANet has this all under control and we'll be just fine when it comes time to bash eachothers online brains out. |

Originally posted by Venomania Because there are factions involved. It's not "wild chaotic FFA world PvP" at all. And because you can have temporary alliances with them so you need to distinguish one from the other. It's either dyeing or bright marks floating above heads. They both have their pros and cons though I lean a bit more towards the dyeing option... provided it's subdued yet easily perceived. Done well, in short. |

I would really hate same coloring method as in Structured PvP. For small scall combat it doesn't matter, but I'd hope to use some sort of terrain blending dyes to camoflauge myself in WvWvW... Getting painted red is hardly 'stealthy'... |

Since when do we need more than a red nameplate to know where to point our swords? |
