Too many people waiting for 2.0 when there is nothing else better to play! It sucks fighting the same people over and over again but moving to a new home helps spice things up a lot. I've been pretty casual with the game during the past year but I love Skyrim and keep trying to play it but that games makes me miss Darkfall so I've been on more lately and have been having as much fun as I did a year ago.
L2? . .. lol In that case you'll be back before 2.0 is launched I am willing to bet. Auto-run and auto-aim is automatically boring. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Currently, any MMO is better than DarkFall. Will DarkFall 2.0 save the day? Only time will tell (think I heard about beta in Q2 this year, not sure?) . Still, DarkFall was awesome at Launch, but died down too quickly because of Aventurine's extremely slow reaction time, and their inability to fix any of the glaring issues that happened back then (which still aren't fixed to this day, they just found a way to encourage a different behavior but that's it). I'm referring to exploiting for example, also AFK skill grinding and Bloodwalls (still possible, but Meditation reduced this relatively well). Because of that alone, any MMO is currently better than DarkFall.
DarkFall would've been a much better game if Aventurine had gone with their initial view rather than going with the cookie-cutter/"we're a small team and programming is hard" way. Alignement System is a complete failure, so is the "conquest" system, the skill system, etc. I have no clue how the new siege mechanics and armor system will play out. Tasos gave a decent amount of info on it but I don't want jump the gun and say it will be the greatest change ever. One thing Launch taught us is that AV are very bad at predicting player behaviors (and delivering), and because of that are unable to really make a system that will give as much freedom as possible but without letting things get out of hands either. Alignement System is a perfect example, and twice at that. From PKers going -100 to +10 simply by repeatedly killing a red alt char, then you had Blue Blocks tactics, etc. Then they changed the alignement system and introduced Chaos Churches, but completely forgot about players who are red simply for defending themselves or their allies, so they have to wait 50 days without killing a blue player (for self-defense) just to get back to blue. Finally they fixed it with the lawless areas, but we're talking over 2 years later...and that's just for the alignement system.
So I'll say it again, currently any MMO is better than DarkFall. Might as well add some Single-Player games while we're at it, because Skyrim is just so freaking awesome and the engine should be released to the public soon.
P.S and don't give me that "Just name a game" thing, it's irrelevant. Don't try to find closeted WoW players, there's none of that in my house. Debating opinions is just ridiculous. ------ |

Was this thread supposed to make DFO look good because it did nothing lol. DFO is failing currently simply because AV fails. A bad dev team = a bad MMO. DFO isn't worth the $15 a month sub so any MMO is better. I/m a huge sandbox MMO fan but I'd rather play WoW then any game ran by AV :-/
My hopes are high for 2.0 but knowing AV and their past it will be an epic flop..lol "Mom, I play Tera for the gameplay I swear!!" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-2paFdRw_U |

Darkfall isn't a terrible game it just has too much incentives to, not so much cheat (when I think cheat I think aimbot, wall hacks, duping, etc) but take shortcuts using in-game mechanics. My experience of PvE in DF was as follows: Group of 6 players, everyone has a shield in their inventory as well as a bow and arrows. 4 players equipped shields and boxed in a mob by putting up their shields (keep in mind there is collision in DF). Other 2 people shot at the mob until someone's stamina ran too low from blocking. At that point one of the arrow shooters equipped shield and took the stamina-less persons place. Eventually the mob dies and we divvyed out the loot. Gold went to guild expenses (city upgrades), and other random loot was on an as-needed basis (like if someone was levelling archery they would need bows because they'd be breaking them so fast on bloodwall). Rinse, Repeat. Now if that sounds like fun to you then, well I guess DF is the best MMO out right now. |

For my personal taste and being a huge lover of Mount and blade ,Morrorwind oblivion Skyrim combat systems my main problem with DF was that combat was looking and playing like it was Morrorwind pre-Beta in terms of quality animations, smooth movement, weapons and hands animations during hack n slash. If combat in DF was acceptable for my taste i probably would be playing DF from launch till now since i like sandbox style mmorpgs. |

Originally posted by NMStudio Thats you'e opinion, i cant change it. I'm just trying to make you understand why we think DF is the best mmo out there. For us, there's no other mmo in existance. Well, only 2. DF and MO, but MO combat system is horrible. The feature we seek in a mmo: open world pvp, full loot, conquest and FPS or TPS(third person shooter). All of these must harmonize togheter. The grind is horrible in DF and you must stay away from it for that reason, but if you can get pass that, you can see how fun the game really is if you can get yourself into our politic. DF 2.0 will fix all these problem. If you still gonna hate, then i dont know what you seek in here cuz you probably wont even find it in 2.0 anyway. DF will never be a good for the pve and thats far from the reason we are playing it. . Played DF trial for 2 weeks none stop. I think the OP is referring to an open world sandbox style game.
Currently there is nothing better, except maybe Eve, but DF is still garbage for many reasons that are stated above.
There are a lot of people on this site waiting for a company to design a working sandbox, unfortunatly we've only had wow clones for the past few years.
The problem with free for all pvp games and servers is that the hardcore players grind up super fast and then gank the noobs and casuals for a while until they get fed up and leave. The game then dies and falls out of favor due to the low population.
In this day and age building a game that kills off the future revenue stream (noobs) is a pretty stupid business plan. Darkfall is the perfect example - fun for like a month, then people realized you needed to grind skills for months the be competitive and the majority simply left. Being farmed by the hardcore no lifers for months is a waste of most people's time.
I am at the point where I believe the only way a open pvp game can have lasting appeal is if there is no grind and everyone has equal power from level 1. This is how Planetside 1 was and it was strong for several years until SOE let it die due to poor design decisions. |

Went to it, was extreamly dissapointed in it, left it. Not been back since (like several other big dissapointing games). So in the past 5yrs there have been 2 games in my opinion that were worth playing (however both have dropped down alot and 1 has dropped into obscruity when it went f2p which was lotro. The other is #1 still (unfortunatly), and has a 4th expansion comming out which is not really dinging my ding a ling at all, in fact warning bells are going off instead. |

The real question should be, "What modern mmo isn't better then Darkfall?" Since we know that most are better I will say that at least DF is better then MO. High Five FTW! |

I would not say MO is better than DF or DF is better than MO. They are both games that pretend they are sandboxes. When all they are is team deathmatch games. Both suffer from low dismal pops. And no real sandbox tools. They are illusions of a sandbox. But I will say that the pve and exploring is better in DF. MO's exploring is looking at scenary with no dungeons and terrible PVE and terrible AI. They are "currently" working on the AI and PVE but they have been working on it since release.
If you are looking for a sandbox play EVE. |

I would say that atm MO has the lead on DF, that has more or less stood still the last year, and having the horrible grind and no skill cap is the real blow to me. If they would fix these issues with 2.0 then I could give it another chance. But I would like a wipe before that as well. But I guess 2.0 won´t come out til 2013, with the BETA starting this year. AV just as SV are a indie company, but at least SV put shit out, even though some are shit, they still do SOMETHING. I guess both these games could get spanked once Archage comes here, and if this new Fallen Thrones has something to say as well. Earthrise will also go F2P in april, and if they fix that games issues it could make a nice comeback. But we´ll see. Atm EVE rules the sandbox, but it´s to dull for me. I say MO leads atm. If barely over DF. |
