Life is a game, just without a reset button

Ummmm not to sound critical of the poster of this article but ummmm.....I kinda feel like this guy is actually trolling...You say you like fininishing everything yet you complain about more stuff to do when you thought you were done...Ok well obviously......YOU WERE NOT DONE. I have done that whole series on Bal and yeah I was a little annoyed at it at first as I had some stuff already waiting for me to do on the next planet.

In many mmo's I normall go into the new area and just grab all the quest and power through them all in rapid order. This was a trick we all learned from playing wow. The fact that they break up this normal chain or same old same old is kinda nice.

Facepalm away, good sir. But at the same time, go back and read what MikeB actually said in his article, because you seem to have missed it.

1. He said he's not opposed to having more quest content to do. It's the manner in which it's presented - how you're sorta "ambushed" with it when you've finished your current planet's story arc and are about to leave, that gets to him.

2. He admits he's one of those types who "has to" finish everything, so he's even taking accountability for his own decision (refreshing to see around these parts, where people constantly blame the game/developer for their own decisions). He acknowledges that he didn't have to do them. Obviously, people who can pass up content like that and move on anyway without worrying about it wouldn't be affected by it.

@MikeB:

Not in TOR, but I've experienced the same thing in other MMOs, so I think I know where you're coming from. With me it's not so much being "OCD" about having to finish everything, though. For me it's more like the "sigh of relief" when you've just spent the past few hours (or however long) doing quest after quest after quest, have visited pretty much every corner of the area and are ready for a change of scenery. You're heading on to where ever the path (be it yours or the game's) leads, and suddenly.. oh look a NPC who has another 2 hours worth of content!

And the groans begin.

For me, it's because I have this creeping feeling that there's something of importance within those questlines that I might be missing out on if I don't do them. And, besides, if they're at my level I could actually get some decent xp from them, perhaps some nice rewards.. and it might actually be a fun challenge. It'll only become easier as I level beyond it, so coming back to do it later never seems like a worthwhile choice.

So, yeah, I can relate to what you're getting at there, MikeB lol.

I find them to be frustrating as well at times because I also have the 'I must complete everything' syndrome.  Largely due to the manner it is presented, because I too was in the mind set of thinking that I was done with the planet, spent my commendations on random crap only to find I had the opportunity to pick up a ton more and could have spent them on a purple box.

I also don't like how irregular it is as well, some planets want you to do the bonus series straight away and some await your return at a higher level.  Because I didn't realise until recently the latter, I thought I had missed the bonus series and wasted time looking for the start... however now that I know they sometimes reappear at higher levels I'm kind of grateful that it spaces the content out a little.

I'm with you, I'm a completist. Why not, Your paying a lot of money for the game and the sub so why miss any content?

I feel your pain though.. By the time your ready to leave a planet and oh BTW here's 30 more quests... It can be frustrating. But soon enough we'll all be 50's hoping for more content...

There are MMO players who actually can ignore some quests instead of doing them all?

You lucky bastards!

I have a compulsion to do everything and believing everything is over and constantly getting tricked is indeed annoying.

There are worse things that could be in a MMO but they should have presented these quests a little different.

Pink, it's like red but not quite.

1/04/12 6:59:48 AM#26

I think they're installed as a safety net, something to catch players who do minimum effort solo questing (and nothing else).

But I played through one (Tatooine), because it popped up in the middle of the "normal" quests instead of at the end.  Story was actually pretty good (imo).

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

I do them because so far they have had nice rewards when you're done with the series.  Especially the Orange gear with mod slots in some.

I think the problem is people are in a rush to move on to the next planet.  I'll admit I've been tempted to fall into this mindset myself.

It seems like so many people are in a rush in MMO's because they think the endgame is where it all begins.  And in most MMO's this is true.  So instead of realizing that this game begins at level 1, they want to be 50 ASAP.  They would probably buy a level 50 character if it were for sale through a micro transaction or something like that.

Sadly there's not much to do at endgame right now so people are getting even more frustrated after pusing to 50 and becoming bored.  They just don't realize they missed most of the game.

well, ban me if you like, but i really love the bonus missions! theres never enough content, never enough quests to do, so this is a nice plus after finishing the main story on a planet. im already far ahead of the supposed level range on the planet im on right now because i completed everything on every planet before - but who cares? im enjoying the storytelling, the discovery of new places i would have missed without those bonus missions and the pvp encounters on the way.
calling those missions 'troll series' really makes me think you are the troll rather than the quest giver npc. nobody forced you to click it anyways :P .. are you maybe obsessively searching for anything to complain about? sure looks like it..

Really?  You're bitching about additional content?  I thought I was reading a whiney post in the forums.  Bring on the content, and stop crying about getting too many quests, no one is forcing you to complete them.

In many games levelling another character becomes boring as you have to follow pretty much the same path with exactly the same quests. It's something that's put me off many games long term. Personally, having the option to vary my levelling to a degree is very welcome.

I must admit the number of Heroics that could only be accessed later on Balmorra did seem a bit short sighted as it is too restrictive in terms of available personnel.

It's not specifically the *Bonus Quests* that have me feeling this way, it's the linear nature of the planet hop. After your grand choice of 1 of 2 starting planets, everyone slogs through the same order of progression. I want to see content appropriate to all levels on all planets, so my Agent can follow a notably different path than my BH or Juggernaut... but no, even though I get different content for the class quests, I have the same stuff in the same order for every damn alt. And I like playing numerous alts... or at least I did in other games... No matter how different they are from one another in SWTOR, they all start to feel the same pretty quick, since they all do exactly the same stuff. Same grind on the same planets punctuated by the same five space missions every day...

And as for Balmorra, I actually wanted to move on before I'd finished the important stuff. It's a neat place for the first couple hours, but this is Star Wars, I want to do some planet hopping, not get bogged down in some eternal civil war that drags on like trying to completely clear the map of Morrowind.

I didnt mind the Balmorra bonus series. Being a bit overleveled when you reach the next planet makes it a bit easier.

I enjoy the Bonus series quest content as the majority have a good arc to them without being broken up by a thousand other mundane quests.

Think of Czerka quests on tatooine,  if that was 1 single arc in a nice line what a 2hour story that would be instead theres dozens of filler quests in between it that totally ruin that single story arc,  the bonus series arent spoiled by such things so I enjoy them.

Ballmora I reallly enjoyed I liked the quest giver in fact shes one of my favourite NPC's to date,  I enjoyed the story and delivering a final crushing blow to that planet and I thought the Colocids where awesome especially as a I had a bugged ambush by them that just resulted in 5 after 5 after 5 spawning at me this must have went on for near 15 mins with me and mako barley surviving and whilst a bug it was the most epic moment to date in game for me.

well the one on balmorra was worth it in my opinion as i got some really sweet orange gear from it ^^ and the heroics you get you dont have to finish to finish the bonus series but they do offer some sweet loot though hehe.

Skimmed the article with an eyebrow raised at the idea of someone complaining about extra content in a MMO.  Then looked at who wrote it and wasn't surprised.

This is said with due respect to the author of the column: this really feels like a "Have to say something bad about SWTOR" article to me. Especially considering so many dancing around with their death masks on proclaiming the game does not have enough content to keep people interested.

Frankly game DOES NOT have enough content.

Bioware was better off:

1) making it within the timespan of KOTOR.

2) making it singleplayer.

3) making it closer to KOTOR story-style and play style and art style.

The "mmo" just does not stick to this title. If you take out voiced quests its bassically TORCRAFT, the wow in space.

KOTOR should have never become mmo and eveyrone should have gotten a perfect third part of the game closing the series for good instead of this(as if retconing KOTOR II in tor is not infuriating enough)
