So I was wondering... In most MMORPGs, you can get experience by doing "battlegrounds" and actually go all the way to max-level like this. But in GW2, as I understand, you will be basically "made" into a level 80 with all the skills available to you when you do competitive PvP to make it fair. Will your character get exp for this? Or do you get some kind of other reward (valor, achievements, etc.). Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Alot pretty much summed it up, but another thing to add is that you'll also get achievements & titles in Structured PvP & WvWvW. |

ah thanks for those links... it looks nicely balanced :) "This creature softened my heart of stone. She died and with her died my last warm feelings for humanity." - Joseph Stalin |
Originally posted by Alot Thanks, that makes a lot of sense :). I always thought "traditional" rewards wouldn't make sense in structured PvP because the whole point of it is to be as fair as possible. I think being rewarded with better looking equipment is a good way to go. Even games like MW and BF3 can get annoying when people have better equip than you from rewards. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

you get armor and weapons. the reward vendors are already in the pvp lobby in the game.

Just remember that in WvW, you're leveled up to 80 to put you roughly on par with others, but you still have the skills and abilities of your nominal level. They may be more powerful versions, but you don't get any new ones. You still need to level your character to unlock new abilities. Luckily for some, this can all be done without ever leaving WvW. |

Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Take care :D |

Originally posted by Unlight Me and a buddy was wondering how they were going to handle the fact that people may want to level a character entirely in the mists. Since This will have characters from start to finish, I was wondering how they will handle low level characters and the DE's and mobs that are in the mists. I guess scaling you to max so you are somewhat = to others makes sense but it does make the levels even less meaningful than in PvE. This can be seen as good or bad. Originally posted by FlawSGI Levels are still important because you will be very limited in your capabilities if you enter the Mists at say, level 2. Your health and damage will scale up, but you'll still only have your most basic skills to work with. A natural 80 will have a boatload of skills so they can put together a solid build, plus they'll have all the other goodies that you can only acquire by actually playing through 80 levels. You aren't going to get one-shotted like you would if you were playing at your true level, but I'm sure the disparity will be quite obvious. Lowbies are certainly going to feel hard pressed at the beginning, but not so much that their presence in the field is all but useless. |

Originally posted by Unlight Having recently played a game where there are no PvP brackets, and a bolstered level 10 has to fight level 50's in battlegrounds, I can attest to this. Level definitely does make a difference :). I don't think it will be a problem in GW2 though because WvWvW is the "just for fun" PvP. Competitive PvP (battlegrounds) will be much more fair. Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

Originally posted by Creslin321 Yeah I know Anet has thought this through but they haven't released a lot of info on the mists yet. My buddy is a world PvP junky and while GW2 doesn't have open world PvP, he is open minded enough to see that the mists have the same concept without the option of griefing so he wants to level heavily in the mists for his first playthrough. When we were talking I just didn't know enough about it to tell him what to expect as far as players, DE's, and mobs for his exp gain, not to mention how long to expect between levels since we know it is a flat leveling curve, but you aren't running the same type of content like you do in PvE. The scaling up in the mists I didn't know so that was news to me and it makes sense. RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray. |

Being sidekicked up happens automatically in WvW like described above. And you can level your character entirely in world PVP and get PVE-style loot drops by looting players. It's different than sidekicking up in PVE, which happens manually and requires a higher level friend. You're right about Structured PVP (aka Competitive PVP) giving you access to all skills and traits and max level. |

I expect to see cash prizes for the biggest tournaments at some point. Remeber Guild Wars 1 had a couple $100k tournaments (thats 100k for the winning guild and smaller prizes for the rest). They flew all the qualified guilds to the tournament locations too on NCs dime (Taiwan, Germany...). Really nice. I'd be surprised to see anything less. Ofcourse there were smaller tournaments organized by Electronic Sports League etc. GW2 has a lot of potential now that E-sports scene is a lot bigger than it was in '06.
