Is there any way to move windows around in the UI? Or how 'bout resizing some of the windows?? Really, the UI in this game game feels kinda stiff. I'd like to be able to resize or move my hot bars atleast! If there's any way to do this can someone please let me know. Otherwise I'm enjoying the game, but this UI issue is really bumming me out.

Thanks all & Happy New Year!

Not as of yet, as far as I know, though I believe it's an issue that will be addressed sooner rather than later. The community opinion on this has been pretty strong.

For now, enjoy it for what it is, and look forward to things to come!

Lack of macros is an equally large problem.  I've got 3 bars full of abilities/activations and I'm not even to max level yet.  Essentially means PVP you need to scale down your abilitiy usage so whats the point of having all those abilities?  One hand on mouse to move/look, eyes on screen, and one blind hand left to operate 30+ abilities/activations.  And not even a stealth bar!

Three things I really like about SWTOR

NO macros

NO dungeon finders

You actually have to travel to get places in the game world

Do you PVP or only PVE?  My guess is PVE only...

But 30-40 abilities without macros is managable.

Any moderate gaming mouse will have two extra buttons. Those and the middle button can be bound to abilities. That makes 3. You have 2 modifiers (CTRL and Shift). So that's 3 x 3 = 9. That's just on your mouse.

You also have keys in the immediate vicinity of WSAD (most don't use S and some don't use W, either). You'll easily manage 10 keys. Let's use 1 to 5 from numericals with a conservative layout, plus Q, E, R, F, Z, X, C, etc... You have two modifiers (CTRL and Shift),  so multiply that with 3 (minus pet / companion commands). That's going to make at least 30 by itself, will even push 40 easily.

You don't need macros for ability usage, you can bind every ability to a usable shortcut. Of course macros make it easier when they're available, but honestly, it's always felt a bit like cheating to me. Just give us a customizable UI.

Though I have to agree on the stealth bar.

For PVE I agree with you, 30-40 abilities is manageable and I use every single one in PVE.  PVP is completely different though and due to the different mechanics and more frenetic pace it really isn't possible to use all of them effectively.  I'm a pretty good PVPer in general so I don't think I'm off base here.  I always do well in PVP even in SWTOR but I've scaled my ability usage in this game to be effective.  PVE and PVP are two completely different ball games and in my opinion once you get to 15+ abilities you need to start utilizing some macros.  PVP player don't just sit there like mobs in PVE so you need to be eyes on the screen and hand on the mouse at all times, and need to blindly access all your abilities with one hand.

Well, I was talking about PVP. Oddly, I find macros to be more fitting for PVE, because everything's predictable there, you can macro a whole rotation and just laze off! :) (oh, the boredom!)

Though it's true macros make the gameplay faster and more fluid in PVP, too, you won't get any arguments from me there... I was just saying you're not exactly "unable to perform" without them. And if a game developer decided that macroing is a no-no (and I sympathize, as it puts non-macroers at a big disadvantage), it's managable.

More importantly, I don't think it'd make the positive difference you're used to in SWTOR right now, responsiveness in the game being what it is. I even suspect it'd be a mess if you fired abilities back-to-back via macros. And I suspect this may be one of the reasons Bioware is not going for it immediately. Even now, without macros, the abilities are jumbled sometimes. I don't think this game's combat can be healthily hectic to necessitate or even reward macroing.

Actually I'm not a big fan of macros to enable mindless firing of abilities.  But for instance take the following possible macro for a single key map:

If "in stealth" then cast "deeper stealth" elseif "not in combat" then cast "stealth" else cast "concealment"

Basically this allows one single key mapping to activate the "deeper stealth" skill if you are currently in stealth (forgot its name in SWTOR but it allows you to go even more stealthy for a few secons) or to simply activate stealth if you are not stealthed and not in combat or to activeate concealment if you are not stealthed and in combat.

This basically consolidates what currently needs to be 3 keybindings into 1 without really being a "dummy button" as it just uses some very simple and obvious conditions to determine what the key does.  The way it is now the "deeper stealth" ability just isn't important enough for me to bother to keybind it for easy PVP access, so it is like I don't even have it.  It just makes the PVP less fun and deep for me, so I don't really bother with PVP in this game as both Rift and WoW for instance handle this situation much much better.

I agree with Snapfusion.

I like:

No dungeon finder

No Macros

But we really need to be able to slide a few UI windows around.

Strictly PVE here

Actually I think the Recall but is a bit much (i forget if there's a cool down period for it...if so then not too bad ). But that's gaming today I guess, and I can live with that

Well, I used to have a similar macro for charge / intercept / intervene on my warrior... Then I took some plasma in the knee. :)

It's just a flesh wound! :P

They are working on a more customizable UI.  For right now you are pretty limitied in what you can modify.  Most things are pretty much locked in place, at the moment.  The only major thing you have control over is the group window.  You can change the group bars to raid frames, and you can unlock the window and move it wherever you want.  Not a big deal for everyone, but definitely nice for healers.

Yeah, I get that people like their macros, but here is the thing:  Yes, players don't just sit there and you have to react more than against MoBs, but without macros everyone is evenly balanced.  The players attacking you have the same restrictions that you do.  New players can jump into PvP and have a chance without having to be an expert at creating macros.  It makes PvP more of an actual player vs player situation rather than player vs macro machine.

Macros turn PvP into an elitist club.  Casual players and newbies can't just jump into PvP and have fun.  They are already at a disadvantage because they are new to PvP strategy, but then they are put at an even bigger disadvantage because they don't use macros.  It essentially becomes a gank fest just as bad as if they were lower levels being jumped by higher levels, which makes people lose interest very quickly.

Yes, macros would make the game better for you, but it makes things unbalanced.  With no macros, the playing field is level, and more easily accessible to all.

Thats a fine philosphy, but I think they will lose the PVP portion of the MMO audience if they don't address it.  I'm having fun leveling some characters now and doing some casual grouping for PVE, but in most MMOs my personal endgame is more on the PVP side not the PVE side.  And, as much as I enjoy SWTOR for its story, I'll most likely be dropping SWTOR and moving on once I've exhausted the casual PVE content.  And to be honest it might be after month 1 or 2 at the pace I'm going.

The PVP just isn't anywhere near where it needs to be for me to take that part of the game seriously.  It's just the way I see it, but again I guess I'd be more in the "PVP elitist" category becuase I take the time to customize my macros/keybindings for optimal PVPing...
