What? He never said it was either of those. He pointed out some areas of the game that he thought were polished and that is all. You may want to work on your attention to detail if you do want to write reviews some day. 1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical. 2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself. 3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose. |

Danny Wojcicki deserves a medal, not only for rating unbiasedly amongst a table full of Fanboys/girls, but also rating it on a site that swarms with the vile cretin.
@Lawlmonster, I can give you some numbers that can help you put your religion into perspective.
World of Warcraft spent 10 million dollars during production, and created a titan that has made its mark in mmo history, Star Wars the Old Republic spent 150 million dollars on trying to mimic World of Warcraft's seven year old game mechanics. Do you see the problem gamers have with this situation? |

i agree with Danny. I don't know what drugs the other staff members got injected with by bioware but he is spot on with his review. my bff and i are playing it A LOT and the further we go the more bored we get with the exact same voice over quests just on different planets. one guy needs 10 terrorists killed then the next guy need 10 womp rats killed then one guy needs 10 seperatists killed. same rotation with different mobs on different planets. the only reason we are still mushing along and havent quit is because we love star wars. bioware really did a mediocre job on this game. and it is full of bugs, full of em! the farther you go in the game the more appear. |

i play Skyrim every day, the game is pretty fun. lot of stuff to do. but guess what, this big bad ass GOTY that sold so much and everyone praises...i rate it a 6.5 to 7/10. this game that i love, and that i recommend to people personally..a 6.5 to 7. Skyrim is built on a bad game engine, and they simply need to stop using it. they removed alot of features and the most hurtful one is spellmaking, because they did not add an alternative way to gain more powerful spells. this makes mages lulzy at high levels and on higher difficulties. the quests are decent, but they are flat out BAD comapred to TES III and IV. the radiant quests are all bland, and repetitive, this was a feature cut from Oblivion. so this game barely does anything new, does few things better, several things worse and all the same probelms of the last game carry over. while they did get rid of the sweeping level scaling, the loot is much much much worse, as is the UI.
there is no way in hell i could ever pass of Skyrim to anyone as a perfect or near perfect game...but my enjoyment of it trumps every other game i own right now.
so Mike B just praised an incomplete game and slapped on a 9/10...then made a post of how he is already disappointed, he can already see how bioware only half way delivered on their word and he thinks the future will be generic content in line with other MMO's instead of what was promised. if that post came 6 months form now ok...but right after he gives a 9/10? please. |

I have a request, in 6 months, if SW:TOR doesn't turnout to be the flop so many of you are predicting, can you please come back on here and appologize to those that are saying it is a great game? Just once I would love to see that happen. Lets get serious, it certainly won't be a ghost town, but it will see a huge drop in population, every new MMO does. By then the MMO crowd will have a new darling and leave another MMO in the lurch. Updating my review: Combat is good, nice mix and range of powers. Space Combat is a dire, tacked on mini game. Better to see them have waited a year and brought in proper space combat. Oh sorry thats something you used to do in MMO's, wait a year and get it right. By then the migrating MMO population will be suffering post GW2 or SW launch depression, gotta play them all! |

Mostly agree with the above but the polished part. TOR has many issues and lacks too many basic features to be considered polished. For example in a polished MMO you would feel the world is alive. In TOR it's like you are wandering around in a graveyard: NPCs don't move and they don't even react when you click on them, because you can't click on them! Where are the world critters? How about most mobs don't even move around? All planets environments are static, there's not even day/night cycles.
Personally I find the crafting fun, for a theme park, still compared to Pre-CU SWG it's light years behind. The space turd is really lame. For example even the pre-programmed music setting is worse than how it dynamically occured in X-Wing with the iMuse system. Yup it was way before the i-something ;)
If you are still not convinced, have a look at the UI or would I say the lack of it. Even AoC one is more friendly and that's saying!
Would this game not be based on such a big IP as SW it would fail hard, that's sad. |

Honestly, I just wish SWTOR had more interesting classes & combat. Bioware could learn a thing or two from games like Champions Online, Rift, Shadowbane, Warhammer Online, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, and even World of Warcraft.

I would love to see SWTOR succeed, unfortunately at $14.99/month it's a hard swallow for something that is not finished. It looks "polished", but it appears you haven't either actually played it or looked too hard under the hood, there are still bugs and descripencies. e.g Floating dead enemies. Companions still using powers even though I unchecked the option, but because I go to a different area it resets their toolbar. Can't click through companions. Broken walls UI: can't mod or scale. As far as Aesthetics, it's Star Wars and thats all this is, but believe me, It wears off quick... Flashpoints are too repetitive. Space combat sucks. No option for race other that humanoid and there's no difference mechanics-wise. Overall its like playing go fish, it can be fun but there's better games out there. Based on those initial reviews, I've lost all faith in the journalistic integrity of this site.

Originally posted by Kaocan Depends on your definition of a flop. Which I assume you are going by the 'to fail' definition. Even so, then what is your definition of fail?
1. To prove deficient or lacking; perform ineffectively or inadequately: failed to fulfill their promises; failed in their attempt to reach the summit.
2. To be unsuccessful: an experiment that failed.
3. To receive an academic grade below the acceptable minimum.
4. To prove insufficient in quantity or duration; give out: The water supply failed during the drought.
5. To decline, as in strength or effectiveness: The light began to fail.
6. To cease functioning properly: The engine failed.
7. To give way or be made otherwise useless as a result of excessive strain: The rusted girders failed and caused the bridge to collapse.
8. To become bankrupt or insolvent: Their business failed during the last recession.
v.tr.
1. To disappoint or prove undependable to: Our sentries failed us.
2. To abandon; forsake: His strength failed him.
3. To omit to perform (an expected duty, for example): "We must . . . hold . . . those horrors up to the light of justice. Otherwise we would fail our inescapable obligation to the victims of Nazism: to remember" (Anthony Lewis).
4. To leave undone; neglect: failed to wash the dishes.

As far as to be lacking then SWTOR has already failed which then means it flopped IMO. Now I am sure you mean in an overall general opinion but still, in the sense that failing means to decline for declining in subs then that means if subs drop below 1 mil subs then it is a flop since it would be declining in strength of subs.

It is always nice to see people enjoy what you enjoy as well. :) Course, it won't suit everyone's taste, but if everyone bar one is enjoying it; something is right about this game. Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Originally posted by Sector13 Actually my definition is much simpler than all that. I am going by the specifics each person is stating on these very forums every day. If thier comments in 6 months are proven false, then why shouldnt' they have to come back and say they are sorry for being wrong. Really, that simple to me. On my end, the only thing I have said about SW:TOR is that I am have fun playing it, I'm sure in 6 months I will have still had fun playing it. A statement I'm sure not everyone here can say truthfully, that what they say here is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing ....... All I am asking for is if you, or anyone else, comes on these forums and tells everyone else something like 'SW:TOR will not last past 30 days' and it does...that they come back and admit they were wrong. Not really something that should be difficult right? Sure we all have the rigth to voice our opinions, but shouldn't we be held accountable for doing exactly that? Oh and to your opinion that it has already failed, well I already posted this link at least once before, but I'll post it again. http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20111226005040/en/Momentum-Surges-Star-Wars-Republic-Holidays Doesn't look like a failure to me, and from the statistics on this news article, and the fact the game has been live what 7 days or so at this point, doesn't look like the rest of the people playing it think it is a failure too. We will see though, those 105 industry awards that were given out could all be total rubish, all those hours of time played by all those people, that were having fun, well they could all be crazy too. You willing to put your reputation on the line to say otherwise?

"But this year, my own personal goal is to be pickier, expect more, and really be vocal about my concerns. Sure I'll still play everything that comes out, as it's my job, but from now on I'll try my damnedest to be less forgiving of clear flaws because one or two aspects of a title are redeeming." - Bill Murphy from the New Year's Resolution article. Yet SWTOR is a 9/10? ...I guess it's not the new year yet... Until you cancel your subscription, you are only helping to continue the cycle of mediocrity. |
