Dear mmorpg.com, maybe you want to restrict your in-article adverts to non-animated ones. I mean im trying to read this stuff and the stupid looping Deathwing if flailing his bright wings right in the dead center of the text and it's very distracting and annoying.

Anyway, as far as taking their time goes, i feel like the approach to stretch it as long as it needs is a double edged sword. A year ago, when details about the game were emerging in increasing quantity, i thought GW2 was breathtaking and impressive. But it's been over a year, close to two. I haven't played it obviosuly, but i feel like the game is already old. It's taking too long. It's getting stale as it's getting made.

I really don't think that Guild Wars 2 is very close to being done either.  I hope I'm wrong though.

They can take all the time they need. So long as they get it right. They need not listne to the doomsayers. I highly doubt its going to turn into duke nukem forever. Takes forever and sucks big donkey ass when its released. Nope wont happen. It will at least be average. Most MMO's now come out average. Hopefully it will be above average but we will see eventually

My other reason for saying take all the time in the world is my gameing laptop died. This gateway with a core i3-370m, 4gig ddr3 ram, and Intel HD graphics wont even load it properly on lowest settings I'm sure lol. The longer they wait the longer I have to save the money for a new gaming laptop. Hoping to save for the Alienware m18x to take to work (yea its a beast but thats what backpacks are for) and it will easily make the game look awesome on my 42' 120hz hdtv :D

They actually are beta ready they just need to open the beta to the public it would 1: speed up the dev time by killing bugs faster and 2: allow people to see beyond the few first seconds of gameplay if the NDA is lifted because there are pleanty of youtube channels out there waiting for more footage. 3: it would allow them to balance pvp much easier then having 20 people play the  closed beta ever could. I want a polished game but when you don't have enough info being released then there's an issue and its like they suddenly shuttup right after closed beta time. Keep the info coming on classes on exploration and on non pve non pvp aspects of the game and it will keep people's interest. Just putting out when it's finished as a response is irresponsible.

Reality check time-Rift is by all accounts was polished and bug-free at launch, has made tons of money and has high subs, TOR tooks 5+ yrs to make, and u say it was rushed- polished, millions playing, etc. And they are fails? I don't play either game, but these kind of false comments seem to add nothing.

I'm really looking forward to this game, but i can wait. I would hate to see them pressured to release early and we end up with a half done buggy game.

"When it's done" was cute at first but now, not so cute.

Just go dark again (surprise us and release it without a date)

I don't care anymore.

Copy and paste this article next month just like last months.

Boring!!

You know what's worse than hearing "When it's done" ?

Stupid articles talking about it.

Seeing how many people still play Guild Wars 1 we expect continued support and additions to the game years down the line. It is better to have a completed game than a buggy mess that was released too early. The time you wait for this game is nothing compared to Blizzard games. (Annoucement in 2010 means release in 2015 probably)

GW2 annoucement was 2007 and will not be released anytime before 2012.........so the time you wait for this game is axactly comparable to Blizzard games.

I can't wait for people who never played GW1 (understandably) to see what ArenaNet can do.  These guys craft their world with love, and I still consider GW to be one of the best looking games out there.  I'm dying to see GW2's environments and gameplay with a modern engine.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

The next book comes out in April, the previous Guild Wars was released in april, my money is either April or May.

To those saying "Oh man, oh man, I wish I was in the beta right now, I want to play it so badly" well obviously you don't want to play it that badly, because if you really had possessed the drive you claim to have, then you would have done everything you could have done to get into the beta, and you would have been successful. Again, it's not impossible, is all you need to do is get invited.

Smoke and mirrors? What a silly comment. People without a clue always want want want. Then when you get a rushed game you whine whine whine. Amazing how people can be so predictable.

Considering the invites for Beta currently are not exactly open, it's hard to do "anything". There is no sign-ups, and all that has been confirmed is that the game has entered Closed Beta (or at least Closed Beta ready). The only way to get in now is if ArenaNet decides to let you in.

I want to play the hell out of GW2, I really do. But short of breaking into their main office with an Asuran bomb strapped to my chest demanding I get a key, I just have to wait.

It wouldn't hurt if game companies would stop doing press releases about their games four years in advance.  They shouldn't let anyone know it's even in the woks till year two of the development cycle at the earliest.

Guns 'N Roses' "Chinese Democracy" took 10 years to make. Bon Iver's "For Emma, Forever Ago"  took three months. Sometimes, no matter how long you take "perfecting" something, you'll still end up with a shitty product. Sometimes you just have to take a good idea an run with it and let your idea be ready without fussing over and tweaking it for years.

I just hope "When it's done," and "soon," don't become the norm for video game development. As someone with experience in publishing, I know that if you don't set a deadline, your product will never be "ready."

I also hope ANet are not telling their employees the game will done, "when it's ready," or it will never see the light of your computer screen.

I'm sure ANet will know when their product is ready.

I think if they were under pressure to release the game they would have done so by now as what I have seen looks very polished. Can't wait to play it!

Well, I think Arena.net and NCsoft decided to go with the choise of doing press release for GW2 in advance because they knew that having the opinions of much more people (more than just game testers and hardcore players) is much more important for develloping a game.

We have ssen that all other mmorpgs for many years have made very few progress (some games more than others) and they could be much better and innovative ones if the companies would let players have more time to get much more feedack and actually find the best solutions for flaws and the best features for a completelly innovative game. It really is ture, they need time. They always had their own testers, they are always changing this in the game because there really are some things that can be even better, and that's something we don't see anywhere else. When other games have a class with flaws, the only and fastest way to "solve" the problem is nerfing it in statistics, instead of changing the class itself and how it works with a lot of feedbacl which takes much more time.

But don't stress! I also put my money for April/May this year, I actually have a bet on that. It depends in how the feedback from CBT (that started 18 december) and how/when they will make their marketing.

Its not going to happen because Arena.Net has workable and playable demos, it has screenshots and movies of the game itself. They have also provide a lot of detail on many aspects of the game. So yeah any mention of this game being "vaporware" is done so by people with the attention span of 12 year old with ADD.

Games I've played/tried out:WAR, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, AoC, EQ1, EQ2, WoW, Vangaurd, FFXI, D&DO, Lineage 2, Saga Of Ryzom, EvE Online, DAoC, Guild Wars,Star Wars Galaxies, Hell Gate London, Auto Assault, Grando Espada ( AKA SoTNW ), Archlord, CoV/H, Star Trek Online, APB, Champions Online, FFXIV, Rift Online, GW2.

Game(s) I Am Currently Playing:

GW2 (+LoL and BF3)

Anarchy Online released too soon. People pissed.
GW2 not released soon enough. People pissed.
Conclusion?
People pissed.

Actually, ArenaNet announced GW2 and its existence back around 2007-2008 because the original plan of the game would be for something called "Guild Wars Utopia". Instead, because they felt like an expansion was just too limiting for them, they announced both Guild Wars: Eye of the North, and Guild Wars 2. Utopia and its ideas were split off and into either game, and a major part of Eye of the North was the fact it would give a way for people to transfer their accomplishments into the true Sequel of the game.

Hence why they felt Guild Wars 2 should be announced as well, since people would of figured it out rather easily anyways. This is all from memory though of course, so I might have something wrong or missing.
