I'm not generally a theme park fan. However, I played the game in beta and was pleasantly surprised. The story apsect is alot of fun and the flashpoints are awesome. Bioware has added some elements (albeit very small) to what I hope will lead to player controlled and developed worlds. The light side/dark side choices could easily be expanded to other games espcially in scope. Imagine if your choices could influence not only your characters progression but also your faction's direction as related to NPC factions or other player factions. While the game is still a theme park, I believe there are elements that could move the genre forward and it is those elements that I am enjoying right now. |

Originally posted by LydarSynn they should have done what you said already. Because the way choices work right now, they mean nothing. but i wonder one thing. How can YOUR choices affect the story? If you killed an NPC earlier, and a person you're in a quest with hasn't, how can the game handle the difference, other than by NOT AFFECTING the story at all? doesn't that necessity also diminish the beauty of a non-linear single player story? You know TOR is a MMO, then, only because its online elements destroy even all the nicities about single player stories :D |

I wouldn't let bioware pay ME to play TOR. ^_^ Honestly, I enjoyed Beta for a while and at the time I figured it was going to be the greatest single player RPG and MMO of all time... Then as I was leveling up, I realized just how one sided the game truly was.. It's more or less the sequel to KOTOR 2 with a rollercoaster mmorpg flavoring sprinkled on top.. I was trying to convince myself it will get better as I continued leveling, but everything was pretty much the same.. You really don't need to ever group, but guess u can say that about most so called MMORPG's these days.. MMO's of the past like Everquest, DAOC, Vanguard, EQ2, etc are basically of the past. These newer mmo's focus to much on ez mode soloing and racing to the top only to be disappointed with the lack of a worthy end game... Anyway, I'm happy I got the chance to test TOR for a nice period of time because if i didn't, I would have bought the collectors edition and played it for a good 2 weeks before realizing how much I've been duped.. Those who decide to get the game need to realize its really a single player rpg with some mmo elements thrown in.. Don't expect it to be an awesome sandbox epic masterpiece, because it's not... Originally posted by austriacus Things operate differently there. First of all, more people buy stuff from cash shops. It's normal for them. Many of the MMOs there simply don't have subscription model at all. It's either pay per hour or cash shop funded with people spending way more then average western gamer. Several years back there was plenty articles on the web on how the Asian MMOs operate there, and there is much more peer preassure involved due to cultural differences butweetn western and eastern world. Generally, if we would approach MMOs like They do, we would pay more than 15$ a month for F2P games. I still say 15$ subscription is pretty damn good deal, and if You sub for longer periods You generally lower it to 13 or even 10$ per month. That's pretty much how much it would cost me to go to cinema for single, 2-2.5 hour long movie. |

I would and will be. For it being a single player with chat I have had more groups, interacted and met more people than I have in quite some time. For me WoW felt more single player than this. Did I run dungeons a lot in WoW (not like you have a choice)? Yep. Was there any ounce of interaction in them? Not one single bit. Oh other than the group I had last week when someone whispered me to choose to kick someone because their dps just wasn't up to their standards (and it actually wasn't bad and they lost some when they spot healed when the healer went afk). So yeah I'll gladly fork over the $15 because I am doing what I should be in games... ...Having fun! But thanks for asking, heh. |

I pay 15 a month for a mmo game I enjoy. I am enjoying this mmo game. I will pay 15 a month because of this. WHile some people dont like it and will not. Those that do enjoy it will. It goes for any MMORPG game that is sub and in many cases F2P*peoples bu things from the shops. I dont see the point of the thread. |

Originally posted by Gylfi However, you are pointing out the reason for WoW's success - that you can play it as a solo game with a chat room and AH. Personally, I do not like that but it is obvious that it qualifies as a key success factor for an MMO today. |

Well along with pretty much everyone else in this thread I'm more than happy to pay a monthly fee for this . In fact I've already brought two 60 day pre paid time cards so I'm going to be playing for 5 months minimum . I think this is the best mmo I've played since Vanilla WoW and in no way is it a single player game with chat put in . Sorry OP it looks like your in the minority . Looking at your previous posts most of them seem to be disallusioned with mmos perhaps you should forget about them for a while ? Or just play Buy to play and free to play ones . |

Originally posted by xion12121 This reminded me of the STO model. Seemed like a good idea for F2P or B2P tye co-op/MMO hybrid, but far from true MMO game that requires a monthly fee. But the younger gamers, and I dont know how else to say it, just dont know any better as there hasnt been a great MMO released since EQ1. Its like taking someone to only beaches in New England and they think Cape Cod is the best beach EVAH !! Then they make it to Hawaii one day and realize what its all about. |

Alot of the story and quests are very entertaining, more so than alot of movies I could rent, I have had many WTF! moments of choosing what to do or getting betrayed which is all very bioware so for me it is a definite yes, I understand this game is not for everyone but It suites alot of us it seems, to the rest I wish you luck finding a game that ticks all your boxes.

Originally posted by Gylfi That isnt even an opinion because It is a fact that TOR is an MMO. I get that you don't like the game , but don't try to call an apple an orange. Do people play it solo ...sure. Do they have to? No. Ive solo'd in plenty of MMO's and can do so all the way to end game If I so chose to. Could It have elements of the game like you mentioned in other posts that encourage community and grouping, like politics etc etc? Sure IT could, but just because It doesnt have them does not make it any less of an MMO ... but rather just something you do not like. |
