The game is a fairly standard. What sets it apart though, is the class system. Extremely customizeable, essentially no need to make an alt with the variety of class combinations available. For example, clerics can fill every role familiar to MMO standards (heal, tank dps), they cannot, however, do much in the support department. After playing Swtor beta, I came to appreciate the versatility of the Rift class system. Classes in Swtor feel so old-school, so very...bare compared to Rift. In Rift, class wise, you feel like you're taking a step forward, with Swtor, you feel like you've stepped back 5 years. |

OP is a troll post and this type of thing is the very reason I wish nothing but bad things to happen to world of torcraft. The cheerleaders are way to immature to deserve a decent game. Die TOR and do it quickly. |

people like the game, they should play it.
people don't, then they shouldnt.
nowhere in this simple rule does it say you should run around comparing how many people do/don't agree with you. RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid. Currently Playing EVE, POTBS Recommendation of a game you probably haven't tried: POTBS, Atlantica, L2 |

Originally posted by bloodbone I'm playing SWTOR and don't like Rift at all but I still wish the game well. The more playable MMOs out there, the more choices people have. I hope there will be 4-5 quality P2P MMOs soon bot high fantasy and sci-fi. I hope hat Rift will stay as a successful game with plenty of subs, SWTOR will have enough anyway. |

Don't worry next year it will be GW2 ghosting servers or some other game. it's an on going falacy. Dough henning had the same problem with magic being illusion and illusion being magic. At the end of the day don't feed the trolls and be glad your game has competition. it creates deals and new content that keep's subs "Subbing" faster then a neutrino. Happy gift day all!..stay off the highways this holiday season. |

If such a thing happens, it will be of natural causes. RIFT is a very solid game, but the mmorpg genre sets its foundations on a clear and close nich market. If you launch a game into a market of lets say 100 people and you are the first to do so, then all 100 people may end up by playing it. If you add another game to this market, then you have to admit the possibility of one game losing player base to another....imagine if you add 2 more...3...4...5... The current market for this genre is a very unreliable one. You never know how many players are out there willing to play a mmorpg, and then you have all kind of factors dividing it: type of mmo, subscription type, themes, age ratings, etc, etc. When you add a game like SWTOR to this market, in its current state, you can bet its going to shake the foundations of many mmos....not only RIFT. |

I don't think its the end for Rift, I can see it settling into a steady existence for a few years yet, though of course with such high overheads anything can happen.
The issue with Rift is in its design. Themeparks are always hard work because the meat of the content is orientated around static PVE content like raids. Even the "dynamic" content like rifts all play out the same way, the only difference is when and where they appear. As a developer you have to keep churning out new content, continually dangling the carrot a little further away as players catch up. Eventually they will lose interest altogether.
Quite frankly I'm surprised that bigger companies haven't had a serious crack at the sandbox genre. Counter-Strike was a very simple game and it ended up being a cornerstone of online gaming for YEARS, how many people do you think will be playing Skyrim consistently for the next 5 years straight? No amount of premade content can ever hold a players interest like the infinite challenges that player-created gameplay can. Give players a solid toolset and they'll keep themselves amused for longer than you could with a production line of dungeons.
Yet companies still seem to prefer sinking hundreds of man hours into content that takes a player maybe 6 hours to finish and everything after it is just grind to get tokens/tiered sets. Go figure. |

I just wanted to say... I've been unsubbed for Rift for about...hmmm...maybe 6 or 7 months now? I got SWTOR, played it for a week, and now I'm resubbing to Rift. And why? Because the entire time I was PvPing in SWTOR, I missed Rift. I just kept thinking about things like: being able to queue for the BG you choose, customizable classes, easy respec, tiered battlegrounds. SWTOR has none of these. So it's quite possible that SWTOR could bring some people back to Rift ;). Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

The assumption is TOR will take hits when it comes to pvp due to things they have done. They have pigeon holed themselves into a corner and WILL BE (mark my words) FORCED to bracket off the 50's from the rest and BE FORCED to have x-server war fronts. Only way they can make it so you can choose your war fronts and do brackets. |

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters. |

I'm on the verge of opening my account, too. Now that gamecards are so cheap...(on a sidenote, i really wonder what is going on with that). I can get 60 days for 16Eur every day and recently there was this 90 day offer for the same price. Checking my server on my 3 free days the population looked ok, even though i was playing on xmas weekend. But it also reminded me on some things i don't like about Rift which i'll never get used to. Plus there is a very annoying bug in my favorite soul that they don't seem to address. So, i'm still quite hesitating.. |

There is no noticeable drop on activity on xfire either, so I'd say Rift will not be affected by SWTOR's launch that much. Of course, having held the 5th place on xfire's charts, the current position of 64th is some indication of the game's decline over time. That said, SWTOR itself is down from 3rd spot to 5th in just two days...

Yes, it has been slower lately. But yes, everyone showed up for our scheduled raid time. Same thing happened when Skyrim came out. T2's give you 1 HK mark now so everyone is pretty busy! |

Not sure what rule says a sub has to be 14.99 a month. Is there like a wikipedia that explain the history of this why it is that price, since forever ago? |
