This is gone far enough! There is obviously a vulnerability well known to certain hacker groups. And something most companies can do nothing about. I mean , if they hacked Steam. After there was previous attempt. And there was a warning. Which in fact makes me really really worried about my money, and infact future of internet subscriptions in general…. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist yes steam was hacked.. but guess what.. gasp.. they encrypted the information so that those pesky hackers would have something to do for the next 180 years trying to 'guess them' .. i hear that Ludo and tiddlywinks is fairly safe from being hacked for CC details etc.. anyway.. heres the thing, the most common form of hacking that leads to compromised accounts, is usually the bad habits of the people who use these services rather than the services themselves, who do tend to know what their doing when it comes to online security.. you know if they started billing people for poor personal security they could probably do away with the subscription model altogether |

yeah .. its really bad somehow, every few months I have to read that a game account I had somehere probably was hacked. Additionally when you stop playing a game you CANT delete your game account. thats why I always try to delete the credit card infos and every info about me I can possibly find.
sucks hard that we need credit cards to play MMOs.. |

Credit cads unfortunately is the easiest, safest, cheapest way to combine all the worlds players into one payment method. Personally I have a separate card for purchasing online that I just transfer money to every time I need something, been working great so far

Originally posted by Phry Actually , i posted this regarding Trion accounts being hacked. As for Steam. Some people claim they got fake charged, after steam incident. To encrypt something you have to have encryption key. And this can be stolen aswell, quite easily.

Originally posted by Phry This. The most common form of "hacking" and fraudulent CC charges are that people's habits are crap. Using the same password for every account you have is a major security risk. There are tons of ways to improve your own "security" when doing something online, such as having different passwords for every account you have, making sure you don't save your password on your computer, etc. etc. Also, if you're so worried, a lot of places let you pay via paypal (either directly with their subscription, or with places who sell gametime). This reveals your CC information to paypal, though. A good idea has already been posted; using a different CC for online purchases. Also, if you stop playing/whatever at a site where you've been using your CC, make sure your CC information is deleted - if this is unreasonably hard, send an email to the companies support, asking them to delete any and all CC information they have about you. |

I dont recall Blizzard ever being hacked for account info? Not really buying the whole "it could happen to any company" excuse, since you know WoW is the biggest target. Seems like Trion just fudged up, and now their reputation is tainted

I think the whole system of using credit cards online is flawed. It's too unsecure, and there are better systems out there: One use only passwords, forcing to authorize every transaction through your bank's website, using your mobile phone to authorize transactions, etc. |

These situations drive me nuts. They're so commonplace now I feel like I have to cancel my credit card several times a year now. Ugh. Michael "MikeB" Bitton |

One of the best things to do is go get one of those green dot CC's from Walgreens or Walmart and load it with couple month's worth of sub payments. That way if they do hack the accounts it wont be so bad. EDIT- This way they dont get access to your actual bak account information. ***Fires plungers at Hackers!*** All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. |

What happened is they hacked SOE and found a databse with a crap ton of credit card number, dates and security codes just there. So you take some of the best hackers in the world who are bringing down drones in iran and give them a money incentive.
They tried it with Trion, but Trion only keeps the last 4 on file. Steam got tested. I am telling you now do not be surprised if CCp, Bioware, and Blizzard are on the radar for possible targets. |

Just have single transaction game time or cards. Not some database with CC info, so dumb now-a-days with all the hacking, plus it is less work for the dev's. Marketing will be pissed though and mmo companies will make less money when the sub player forgets to cancel on time and gets charged. |

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

Originally posted by 77lolmac77 Blizzard hasn't been hacked recently, that we know of. Just because they haven't announced being hacked recently, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Hell, the pentagon and many large banks get hacked into on some level every year, and I doubt Blizzard has better security than them. |

It is YOUR money. Take all the precaution with YOUR money you feel needed. But seriously, in this situation I stand on the side of paranoia. The more security measures you take on your end the better...Pre-paid card for just online, deleting CC info from site, Time-cards..whatever, use any or all even. But dont for a minute put your trust in ANY company to fully protect YOUR money. |
