Well, gotta make dinner and such. Hopefully SWTOR will get some good updates/expansions and everyone will be happy.

It is funny, go read the negative reviews compared to the positive reviews.  Many of the negative reviews talk about the game(some really good ones I might add) while most of the positive reviews are people attacking the negative reviewers while giving the game a 10.

I noticed this as well, it makes it extremely hard to give weight to the 9 and 10's.

Personally, i tried the game and i say tried because the game was boring to me by lvl 10.  I am positive i will get replies about not playing longer and not doing this or that, but in all honestly, if a game can't keep my attention early on, then i could care less about how much anyone claims it gets better later on.

I'd say about 4/10-6/10 is the score range i would set this game in.  It lacks too much to be any higher and what it does have isn't all that great or appealing, but it isn't something i could place lower than a 3 or 4 outa 10 because it is taking advantage of those people who like the things they are familiar with and using the name of the franchise to make sales.  However, it is definitely not the worst i have seen over the past 5 years.

I read a lot of the opinions on that website and a lot of those critics backed up their opinions with reasoning. Its just that they then gave a score of 1 or 0 lol when their conclusion was that the game is mediocre at best in their eyes.

So I wouldnt really look at the scores that are being given, just read some of the critics to see why they were disappointed with SWTOR. To see if those are things you find important too for a MMO.

I agree with others and find user reviews very important before trying a game.

The haters can keep on hating while the fans keep on playing, you will never be able satisfy everyones needs in a mmo today.

I used to be one of them players that needed to reach level cap so I didn't miss anything, however nowadays, I just simply enjoy the game for what it is and pace myself.

If I get 3 to 6 months of enjoyment out of any game (pc or console), I consider it money well spent.

However some people don't have the luxury ok dropping 50+ dollars on any game, but they do anyways because they are impatient.

If I was on the fence about any game, I would just wait till they released a 3 to 7 day buddy pass (easy as that).

Honestly, who cares if someones unhappy, as long as your happy and having fun with the game. Screw the other person feelings, for all we know, they probably like games you consider bad <imo>.

shocking to see a game that is a true gem and has brought innovation to the MMORPG genre get ripped apart so bad by idiots that clearly haven't tried the game.

Some of those critics talk in specifics to explain why they dont like SWTOR. Its just their opinion, man. I dont know why everyone here gets so offended if someone doesnt like SWTOR for what it is. Those critics that actually back up their opinion with reasoning are not idiots.

If you are already playing and enjoying the game, then why bother reading negative opinions at all? But for people who havent decided yet, they can use both sides of the fence. The positive and negative user reviews.

Fun is a very personal thing. Rating numbers only say so much. What *can* help to decide if a game is for you or not, is a detailled text, which describes the experience. The rating part is the least important part.

Amazon US and Amazon Germany both have 4 of 5 stars. *shrug*

Try not to "belong to a side". SWTOR is standard fare, yes. So what? It still is fun, at least for me. If not for you, fine. But we should not make a drama end of the world doom, downrating it to 0 or 1. SWTOR needs still work, yes. SWTOR has flaws, yes. But it STILL is great fun, for now. I think we all should be more relaxed right now. Take fun when it is there. I'd say we wait how the next few weeks and months develop.

Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs!

Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects,

But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation,

Amen!

You have to understand that people see things differently, not everyone is going to put SW:TOR up on a pedestal and worship it.    Overhyping a game can be very detrimental.  I think that is why games like Aion and Rift didn't do as well as they should have.   People got sick of hearing how these games were this and that, when in actuality they were just average at best.   To much hype and it makes people think they are going to play the greatest game ever and then when reality hits it makes them angry that the game is not as good as the people hyped it up to be and then they come to the boards and make post condenming the game because they feel betrayed or cheated.

Let's see all the BASIC FEATURES (not content, that is excusable for a newly released game) that SWTOR is missing:

1. Real race variety. I don't care if it doesn't work for the story, I want my Wookies!

2. UI customizability. Even WAR had a fully resizable UI, this is inexcusable for a 2011 game.

3. Interesting Quests. WoW was already mixing things up with things such as bombing runs and the like back in 2007(Burning Crusade), SWTOR only has Kill X, Fetch Y, Deliver Z quests.

4. Ambience. Mobs and NPCs stand still like manequins and the world feels completely sterile.

5. Competitive PvP. No ranked or Group vs Group PvP leaves PvPers out in the dust.

6. Character customization. Seriously lacking, nuff said.

7. Group Finder. That a part of the community was against it is a sad excuse; give players the options and let people decide if they want to use it or not, instead of focring everyone to stand around in the Fleet trying to find a group.

8. Gear customization. LOTRO had it in 2007, WAR had it in 2009, Rift had it earlier this year, what's BioWare's excuse?

9. Anti-aliasing. Seriously? How is this even possible?

10. Leveling Zone variety. You get a whooping one(1) zone for your level range and that's it; so much replayability....

1.Content

2.They said they are working on it

3.Subjective

4.Mobs move around and take cover when you attack them, but you're more then likely talking about the retarded shit like one or two mobs walking around aimlessly right?

5.Um there is a PvP rank and you can create a group of four in BGs.

6. I agree

7.I agree

8. Never used orange gear? or are you just ignoring that little part of the game where every item has an orange counter part that is fully moddable?

9. Don't care nor do I even know  what that means and I doubt your casual gamer would care.

10.You'd rather have one or two more places to level then 8 fully VO story lines to play through?

But what do I know I'm just a fanboi.

1. No, it's not. Its a feature. Content is things like more quests, story, raids, PvP maps, etc. The fact is that you can only make different coloured humans.

2. Great. I'm still not gonna pay a subscription fee for a game that doesn't have features that a sub-par game like WAR included from release... in 2008.

3. No, it's a fact. Most quests are the old "Kill X, Fetch Y". What's subjective is if you find this fun or not, but a fact is a fact.

4. That "retarded shit" is what creates atmosphere and immersion. You know, two of the msot important things for a game that is pretending to be a living world?

5. PvP rank doesn't make PvP against casuals any more engaging. Also, I'm talking about ORGANIZED Group vs Group matches, not just making a group for a PUG warzone.

8. Okay, you are right, models can customized but colours are fixed until they decide to re-implement Colour Match to Chest (Why they wouldn't leave it in while they worked on the new system is beyond me).

9. You are joking right? Antialising has been a basic graphic option since mid 2000's in basically every PC game released. It's what makes those annoying jagged edges around models go away. Also, high quality textures are completely missing from the game.

10. "8 storylines"? More like 8 different quest chains and a heck of a lot of the same mundane quests, in the same dull zones.

I constantly hear people proclaiming how SWTOR is innovative but how is it innovative?  VO or Class Quest?  Plz... it just makes a more enjoyable ride to lvl cap is all, it is still the same "kill 10 rats" while following a moderately entertaing story.  Everything else is the same mechanics that previous MMOs have pounded into the MMO community.  PvP, Operations (what is seen so far), grouping.. everything is the same ol' same ol' just with different skins.

reposting this from other thread but it fits here as well

think about this say at&t offers there new top of the line phone today with just your basic features but no wifi, no gps, no expandable memory, no way to change your wallpaper or ringtones aside from the preset ones BUT it has a 3d projector on it.. does this phone deserve mass praise cause of this one feature? or should  people be critical cause it ignored many basic features every phone over the past years have had..

I just don't see how people cannot understand why people are being critical of this game unless this is your first MMO then honestly I could see people thinking its an amazingly innovative game

Reading reviews on meta critic is like reading reviews from the mentally handicap, because well it is. I would not trust the general population of earth to make a decision for me that mattered, would not do it for something that did not. Most people are fail at any kinda of logic process. I will leave reviews where they are, in a place that doesnt matter, especially for video games. If I want to know what it is like I will just try it. Metacritic is just another troll haven, take reviews there for what they are worth, a grain of salt.

Since I've got a 10 minute wait...this game has these Holocrons scattered throughout planets, and they have really taken the MMORPG Jumping feature to a new level. Some of these holocrons require so much freaking jumping, that I am not even sure what type of game I am playing...almost like a Mario (and yes you also run around on pipes too much)

You didn't play the game did you?

1.Pointless to me, But considering the legacy system and the fact that the female trooper romance ends in talk of adopting a kid. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Mj3Tsd6nC4 races like Cathar are more then likely going to be in for a content patch.

2. This just show the impations of MMO gamers.

3. Actually sorry but you're wrong. Most go kill X quest are bonus and the fetch Y normally has a story behind it.

4. So what is full VO to you then? It's like you have selective hearing but with MMO features.

5.Can easily be added later once again you're going to be forever disapointed if you expect everything in an MMO to be there at launch.

actually 5 can really sum up all of your complaints.

All in all I think you are being unfair to the game.

Guess what...it's a new hyped up game.  There are people out there whose sole goal is to find some tiny thing to hate about the game because it's such a huge title.  Guess what, being in beta and pre-launch and launch, I'm enjoying the heck out of this game and will continue to play it regardless of someone else's opinion.

this one bugs me because yes your main story is interesting ill say everything so far (about to hit 20) has been basic kill this person, destroy this thing, find these. After the VO you aren't doing anything new or interesting but running to a location clicking a little glowing thing or talking to someone or killing someone or thing and going back to quest giver.. unless I'm really missing something here what else is going on in these quests besides dialog?

Let's see all the BASIC FEATURES (not content, that is excusable for a newly released game) that SWTOR is missing:

1. Real race variety. I don't care if it doesn't work for the story, I want my Wookies! Yea, good luck listening to "RAAWWWWWR" on every dialogue response.

2. UI customizability. Even WAR had a fully resizable UI, this is inexcusable for a 2011 game.

They're working on it for next patch.

3. Interesting Quests. WoW was already mixing things up with things such as bombing runs and the like back in 2007(Burning Crusade), SWTOR only has Kill X, Fetch Y, Deliver Z quests.

Subjective. I personally thought the quests were far more interesting, complex, and immersive than any of WoW's quests.

4. Ambience. Mobs and NPCs stand still like manequins and the world feels completely sterile.

There are mobs moving around, ships flying in the distance, NPC's having conversations (some which you can hear), etc.

5. Competitive PvP. No ranked or Group vs Group PvP leaves PvPers out in the dust.

No arenas, true. This is only a matter of time, though.

6. Character customization. Seriously lacking, nuff said.

Character customization is better than WoW. It can definitely be improved upon, but you can make a cool looking character regardless.

7. Group Finder. That a part of the community was against it is a sad excuse; give players the options and let people decide if they want to use it or not, instead of focring everyone to stand around in the Fleet trying to find a group.

Meaning Dungeon Finder? No thanks. I prefer socializing with people and grouping up with them by actually talking to them.

8. Gear customization. LOTRO had it in 2007, WAR had it in 2009, Rift had it earlier this year, what's BioWare's excuse?

Think item modifications.

9. Anti-aliasing. Seriously? How is this even possible?

They're working on it, but you can force it on regardless via the .ini file.

10. Leveling Zone variety. You get a whooping one(1) zone for your level range and that's it; so much replayability...."

Replayability is actually insane in this game. Each class has its own story, with different decisions to make, different people to see, different things to do. Sure, side quests are shared, but the most impressive quests, the class quests, are unique to each class.

3. Actually sorry but you're wrong. Most go kill X quest are bonus and the fetch Y normally has a story behind it.

Not really no, but for me this is a huge innovation.

I actually care about why I'm going to fetch X things, because they where family momentots, cards for the kids to play so they'd stop fighting eachother in the taris camp.

This is far more immursive (Spelling) to me then some random Enemy NPC walking around all day long or the run rising up and down.

For once in my 8 years of playing MMOs I legitamently care about what happens to my character and they story that the game has set up.

That's true for a vast majority of the haters on this site. Why take the time to actually play a game when you can just whine that it doesn't fit some idealized list of features you think a game should have?
