I think I should wait for a free trial before buying this game. It doesn't really scare me that ppl vote 0 for it on Metacritic, but it does worry me that ppl vote 10 just to boost it. It does seem that some ppl (only some) that vote low have fairly valid arguments based on experience and thus it worries me that the high scores pretty much just rant on the "non-likers". |

And on the same note, a 10 means that everything is there, and there really is nothing to critize -- yet I am sure there are fans out there giving out 10s.
I certainly agree the game does not deserve a 0, but it certainly doesn't deserve a 10 either.

There is no common definition of what "0" means. You have a slider with numbers from 0 to 10 and that's it. People pick the score and it means whatever they want it to mean. It has nothing to do with fair or unfair. The trick will be seeing what happens when there are a couple or several thousand ratings (if there are that many ratings). That would give you a better idea of the general score for the game. Join the League For Gamers. |

Originally posted by Distopia Metacritic and MWF3 Anyone who holds any stock in metacritic user reviews needs to read this article. Users tend to either vote 1 (hated it!) or 10 (loved it!) for a variety of reasons. They're more rants, framed by players' emotions, than reviews; and it's difficult to put a numerical value on your feelings. People who had hoped the game would be a 9+ but only got what they perceive to be a 7 may feel betrayed and hurt, and thus rate the game a 1 in a moment of passionate revenge. People also want their scores to count as much as they can. In order to have maximum positive effect, a player will give the game a 10, even if he feels a 8.5 is more fitting. Conversely, players who want to see the game's score dip will give it a 1, even if they don't quite think it's the worst game ever, but rather maybe a 7. And of course you have the fanboy and anti-fanboy outliers. |

Originally posted by ianicus So is yours. Is there some criteria for rating on Metacritic? Does "the game turns on" have anything to do with how much someone likes/dislikes it? If I hated a game, the fact that it works would make me want to score it lower, not higher. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

There are a few people on there who have attempted to give thorough, honest reviews. A lot of them rate the game anywhere from a 6 to an 8. I'd probably give it a 7 based on the beta weekend. Average game with some nice touches. If I wanted to be snarky, I'd give it a 6.5 because of the limited character creation. Quite a few of the reviewers in the 6-8 range are saying pretty much the things I was thinking while I was playing. The other reviews are worthy of some giggles and popcorn, but most are either rage-fueled or rosy tinted. |

This is why I still prefer a clear "Thumbs Up" or "Thumbs Down" when reviewing anything in life. I mean really, what's the difference between a review that says it's a 6/10 and another says it's a 7/10? It's all meaningless to me. Overall, did you like the game? Yes or No? Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down? Sometimes, living in a black and white world is all you need to make a decision. |

I like the one post on there where the guy says PvP is horribly unbalanced yet he never played past level 8...... weird since PvP doesn't start until your level 10....
I've beta tested it for 4 months, SWTOR has the most balanced PvP I have ever experienced in a MMO... You can tell a lot of the posts are fictional to try and discredit the game for whatever reason they have..
From my experience with beta and now live I would rate it a solid 8/10

A mmo comes out today and if it's even kinda like WoW it gets bashed, but then again if it's not WoW enough people will still complain about that too. Games today can't win tho. A mmo comes out and can be NOTHING like WoW and people still scream and shout "WoW clone!!!! Ripoff, not gonna play this trash!!!!" To me really, I couldn't really care if a game is a "clone" as long as I find it fun then that's all that matters to me. I do find TOR to be a fun game! |

Lets all sit down and face the truth Reviews are never honest Fan-bois going to put a 10 Haters going to put a 0 Professionals going to mask a 5- if they dislike and a 8 if they like so they do not give the forbidden 10 or 0
Reviews are purely subjective Surprisingly, isnt it? "Some of the less objective people tend to be close-minded though and basically disregard any possible shortcomings that gw2 could have." |

I wouldn't say SWTOR is a waste of money mainly if you aren't burnt out on current gen mmorpgs with like a few "ups" on the basic style. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns-IIn-DG-c Try to argue this please. Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Originally posted by Teala I think he, and anyone else who is reasonable would know that a 10 in any game is ridiculous. 1-10 number system is horrid in any case. how much different is a 7 to an 8? What does that really mean? The only way a 0 or a 10 might be considered a fair review is if everyone panned/praised the game and there were no differences in opinion. Then that might make one pause. |
