Skill on cooldown until new gear.

1st of all, the statement this game is non-canon is incorrect. This game is in no way in contradiction to the original trilogy, prequels or any other works directly associated with George Lucas (meaning his direct involvement in the story, not just his approval/approval from LucasFilm or whatever they go by now). 2nd, with shifts in the balance of power of Jedi and Sith over the timeline nobody but George Lucas can declare who has the ultimate victory. If he has done so feel free to correct me and provide the resource.

For most people, character development and personal story ends upon clicking "Log in" if not "Start Game"

It's odd to think of it that way, to be honest.

The jedi don't really "win" in a continuous universe.  It's always a universal struggle.  As has probably been done to death in the books, there's always gonna be a Sith somewhere hiding out in deep space, waiting for the right time to strike.  For all we know, in another 2000 years after the battle of yavin, the Empire might retake control again.

How do you pull that off story-wise in an MMO with millions of players (of which around 60% are Sith)?

By definition the conflict must be never-ending and the world static and in conflict.

Its not like WoW where the factions can enter uneasy truces or fight a greater evil...

For a thousend generations the jedi where the guardians of the peace, before the dark times, before the empire. Obi Wan Kenobi.

Thats approx 3000-3500 years counting back. So the Sith in our story will go the way of the Do-Do....

bah... its more like 30000-35000 years? I gotta stop drinking.....

My point crashed and burned.....

Simple. Put a giant thousand year gap in between the wars of the old republic and the next major event on the timeline. That way no matter who wins, in the end there is always will be enough time to make a recovery and keep everything canon.

And according to the timeline, that gap is something they definetly do have.

Actually, the story in the game is just that:  the empire and republic just signed the treaty of coruscant.  Diplomatically they are not at war.  But they are poking at each other from the shadows...

And at some point they actually could do an xpac and change all that.  Nothing says that that treaty may not be broken in the future, and time advanced.

EXACTLY! why even make a Hobbit movie, if we already watched Lord of the Rings. How stupid is that?!

In all seriousness, though: The game takes place in a time when the Sith are rising up, and both factions are equal, at this point. We know that the Sith will take over most of the galaxy, then be shut back down. But there is a lot to be told, here. They don't have to "Take a stand" against anything, because it's a different story.

Ah, I think I misinterpreted his question.

Also keep in mind(and this is ALSO probably done to death in the books), just because Obi-wan said "the jedi are all but extinct", or that it's assumed that the Emperor and DV were the last of the Sith, that doesn't mean it's 100% true.  There could well be other Jedi hiding in the Outer Rim, or other Sith waiting for Palpatine to show weakness so they can usurp him.

Just because a character says it in a movie, that doesn't make it necessarily true.  Obviously you can't go as far as SWG and its gobs of jedi running in and out of Cornet starport....

...and that that cycle may have occurred time and time again, BBY.  2000 years is a long time.

So bashing a power-leveling person who doenn't care about the story, but then complains (or will) at level cap when they have nothing to do is resonable. Yep.  It's kinda like plugging in a God Mode cheat, then bitching because the game is too easy.

I understand the timeline, but think about it like this, a change has been made 1000s of years ago would it not reflect in the current state, so like now the servers are packed with empire and so this game is years ahead of anything, wouldn't the changes that you made in game in the story have an effect star wars in its current state?

What I am getting at is that you are playing the story and its great, but yet it has no effect on the current situation.

True, but the original trilogy was set "A long, long time ago". So even the events of that are historical.

Who knows what the "current situation" is in the Star Wars universe? Most recent was, what, the Fate of the Jedi books, 43 years after the events of Ep IV. That's still a long, long time ago.

History shows that even the most winningest of winners (Roman Empire, anyone?) are only winners briefly in the grand scheme of things. What happened 3,000 years ago here on Earth is only really of interest to archaeologists and evolutionary biologists. We don't really know about tribe A's epixor battles with tribe B and how tribe C rolf-stomped them into oblivion.

We just don't think that far back as a species. There are cuneiform tablets from 6k bce and while they're amazing and wondrous to look at, and their myths form the basis for a lot of current thinking -  there are very few figures from back then that people know about. Hamurrabi springs to mind.  That's about it. Come closer to our own time, Ancient Greece and Rome and we may know more names, but history and mythology start to get confused. We take math, philosophy, roads, acqueducts and sewers from then (Monty Python ftw), and mostly let the rest slide.

So I'd expect to see echoes in the movies, but only echoes, since 3000 years is time for the balance of power in the galaxy to shift and reverse countless times.
