Its always best to try it out your self, user reviews are too obsurd, professionals are paid and they make good conversations buti in the end the game gets a good review.

I tested the game in beta and found it not my cup of tea, however you might think its the greatest or latest poop in the market.

So try it your self and see how it goes.

I am at work, so I need entertainment. Trion has been silent in December so I got nothing to read there. TOR is fun to watch considering i plan on playing it at the 30 day mark.

You can get a pretty good idea of what a game is like from user reviews, so I always read them.

Nothing beats hands on experience, though.

the best part is how the negative reviews talk about the game, while most of the positive reviews are reviewing the negative reviews. I dont know if there is any significance to that; I just thought it was a funny observation.

Anyone slightly intellignet can see that the vast majority of the bad writes ups are nothing but subjective content. 

It's a shame that any random internet user can express their "opinion" no matter how subjective, and have it affect scores that only average numbers regarding the votes. 

No filter on the malacious, biased, or just plaing entitled and stupid. Folks that like the game are playing it and outweigh the number of reviews/opinions period.

Same here. I look at user reviews much more than 'professional' reviews for games.

I'm kind of surprised at the reviews on Metacritic that SWToR is getting. Reading through the reviews, it seems like a lot of people didn't bother reading about the game before buying it. I'm not sure what people expected, but it wasn't what they got.

I don't think that being open with your plans should be a free ticket out of criticism.

     Most of those reviews can lick my balls. I'll agree that there are too many "10" reviews as it should be near impossible to get one but the same goes for "0" reviews which are entirely too plentiful and bullshit. It is too hard to deserve a "0" review unless the reviewer  just never intended to give the game a fair shake. That and the " It wasn't what was promised me so I won't be subbing" ...really? It is everything Bioware said it would be ...so that dog wont fucking hunt. Just because it is nothing you expected doesn't mean it is nothing like what Bioware declared from the start.

   I seriously take user reviews into consideration as long as they seem unbiased, truthful and with no agenda. That goes for all reviews..positive and negative. I can't say i find too much of that on metacritic thats why the user opinions I value most are co-workers,friends and family.Plus my own ability to step around the bullshit when I smell it's overbearing stench.

I will wait for professional reviews. I learned as Amazon customer that private reviews never really help, and more often mislead, because people are to both extremes way too much absorbed in their emotions. It needs a trained and responsible method to review, thank you very much.

Your best bet is to read the gaming community bloggers and see what they have to say.

I think all user-scores are absolutely justified, be it 0 scores or 10/10, and absolutely no matter for what reason they were given.

Most of the negative scores are from people who are too b-hurt about galaxies closing down.

yup i agree, those user reviews means little, there could be a bunch of SW hater or just making a bad name

the best thing is to try it yourself and decide for yourself

User review = useless for both movies and games, as far as I'm concerned.

There's almost always a political agenda behind it.

I find Metacritic's user reviews can be useful. Granted, most of them are spammed as either over-exagerrated 0-1s or 9-10s from haters and fanboys alike, but they tend to balance each other out. There's the occasional reasonably written review that actually outlines the real positives or negatives and gives a realistic view of the game.

It's also great for spotting games that have been overhyped by the critics and media. Take Rage for example, average 79% from critics, 43% from users. Why? Because Rage was terribly overhyped. The reality of the game was that it was too shallow, generic, short, and plagued with technical issues.

Not saying that it's the exact same with SWTOR, but I have a feeling it's largely to do with backlash from all of the over-hyping people have been doing.

I doubt professional reviews will be anymore trustworthy. Every major release automatically gets high scores from the "professionals" regardless of the merit of the game. Not saying swtor is good or bad, but it's not liek any of these reviews mean anything. The only real way to gauge how good a game is, is to play it yourself or get  feedback from people you know/trust imo.

These negative reviews on metacritic are just going to have people who ahte the game saying "players are more trustworthy" and people who hail the game saying that user reviews are useless and to trust professionals. People only like to hear what agrees with their opinion. Anyone who doesn't agree with them is stupid or misinformed.

Come on, no rating under 5 is really justified, nor a 10. That makes 90% of all so called reviews there highly irrelevant IMHO. Rasting SWTOR 10 or 2 or even 0 is just bullcrap, no matter if the game is your pair of shoes. A review has to take all possible customers into account not only your personal preferrence. For example, if you are a sandbox fan, for YOU the game might be 1 or 0, but such a rating would not be a review, as a reviewer has to be a neutral as possible and judge a product from the view of the possible target audience.

Contrary to public opinion here, a REAL review is NOT just "some dudes personal opinion".

Actually us early access people have got too level 30 already. It started the 13th for some like myself. But I dont know where the grind comes in.
